It could be argued, at least for the previous movies, that the books weren't entirely accurate to the film. I expect some things in the Legend of Everfree novelization to not be in the film and vice-versa.

The problem this time is that the other "Save our Camp" book is more of a companion guide to the movie. The images in it look nothing like the other promotional materials and are very likely screenshots from the actual movie, and what is pissing everyone off is that one group shot that shows Twilight with crystal wings.

So essentially, she's an alicorn just because her Equestria duplicate is, and THAT is what is rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.

If you read the text above that picture (there's other uploads that have it) then it's pretty clear that this shot is from near the end of the movie after they've defeated Gaia Everfree. And they don't have weird proportions or cutie marks on their faces or anything like that... it's a real shot.
