>Wait.
>Today is the…
>You can’t believe you almost forgot.
“Hey Flurry?”
>”Yeah Uncle Non?”
“Do you have some friends you can go play with this afternoon?”
>”But I don’t want to play with my friends, I want to spend time with you!”
>She’s getting better at reading your tone of voice.
“I know I’m gone often, but I have some very important things to take care of.”
>”What kind of things?”
“Adult things.”
>”YOU’RE GOING TO PROPOSE TO AUNT TWILIGHT?”
“What? No!”
>”Oh…”
>The disappointment in her voice is palpable.
“I promise that you’ll have me all to yourself for the next couple of days.”
>”Promise?”
“Yeah kiddo.”
>Well… since you got me out of being grounded and having to write that paper of apology…”
“Good, now run along. And be at home and in bed by ten.”
>”Yes Uncle.”
“And ‘ten’ means ten tonight, not ten tomorrow morning.”
>”Wait… you can do that when you’re told a time? Just take it as the other half of the day?”
>You may have just inadvertently planted that loophole in her head.
“It’s called a technicality.”
>”COOL!”
>You are definitely a bad influence.
“But that won’t go over with me. Be at home and in bed by, twenty-two hundred hours. Understood?”
>”Yes Sir!”
>She salutes to you before fluttering off into town.
>You wait until Flurry is far out of sight, and then head to make your own stop in town.
>…
>Holding onto the newly-procured bottle you have in a brown bag, you head into the castle.
>>
>>28399160
>Walking through the hallways, you arrive at the kitchen.
>After grabbing a pair of glasses, you continued onward to your final destination.
>You knock on the door.
>”Come in.”
>You knew she’d be in here.
>With your free hand, you reach down to open the door.
“Hello Twilight.”
>”Anon, how can I help you?”
>Her eyes drift to the brown bag and glasses.
>”What’s the occasion?”
“You really don’t remember?”
>She looks up and to the side as she ponders.
“It’s the anniversary... of when your brother set off.”
>”That was two weeks ago, you already missed it.”
“No, that was when he left the Crystal Empire. Today is when his boat set off.”
>”Well, come in.”
>You enter into the room.
>It’s right next to her bedroom; she had converted it into a personal study.
>Well seeing as every single wall is covered with bookcases; it’s more of a personal library.
>She’s currently sitting at a desk facing the door, so you take one of the two chairs on the opposite end.
>Setting the wine glasses on the table, you then pull out the bottle from its bag.
>The vintage puts the bottle of wine at forty-six years old.
>It was the best you could afford with what little money you had on you.
>Thankfully, alcohol is a rather niche product in Equestria, so prices are generally reasonable.
>Well… or they’re ludicrously expensive.
>>
>>28399167
>With wine specifically there are only a half dozen main vineyards, and all of them make most of their money from grapes themselves.
>The families that run the vineyards put all of their excess crops into wine, and generally there are a lot of excess crops.
>High supply, low demand: thank you economics.
>The years that are in low supply obviously go for a lot more; but as a rule of thumb, a three hundred year old vintage here costs about the same as a sixty year old vintage back on Earth.
>Other alcohols exist here, but wine is by far the cheapest.
>Probably because it’s the most popular.
>Beer and Spirits are expensive because there isn’t a huge pony market for them.
>The cheapest of those are imported from the griffons or minotaurs, who have more of a palate for those kinds of drinks.
>- Huh.
>- You start drifting out of focus as you experience your younger self’s train of thought.
>- Alcohol became much cheaper and popular as the army ended up expanding past a couple thousand members.
>- Soldiers need their booze.
>- And that ended up translating over to the general population as soldiers went back home.
>- Now alcoholic beverages are about as popular as they were on Earth.
>- Wine is still by far the most popular among civilians though.
>- It’s amazing how much this world has changed in twenty years.
>- Total war will do that to populations.
>[Hey!]
[What do you want Discord.]
>[Quit getting side tracked, and just watch your memory.]
[Fine.]
>- You begin to relax yourself and you start sinking back into the past.
>Reaching into your pocket, you retrieve a Swiss army knife.
>Of course it’s not actually from Switzerland, so it’s not really a ‘Swiss’ army knife, but the important thing is that it has a corkscrew.
>As you begin to open up the wine, Twilight speaks to you.
>”I appreciate the thought, but you know I don’t drink.”
“Then I’ll drink yours for you.”
>”Don’t you always?”
>>
>>28399171
>You take a whiff of the open bottle, and proceeded to pour two glasses.
>As you set the bottle of wine down, you then pick up one of the glasses and hold it up.
>Twilight grabs the other with her magic, and holds it up.
>”To Shining Armor?”
“To family.”
>You clink your glass against hers, and proceed to take a sip.
>And by sip, you meant chug.
>And by chug, you meant bottoms up.
>She sets her glass down near you.
>Which you then swap with your now empty glass.
>This one you’ll take at a normal pace.
“You know that he probably helped me adjust to this world better than anyone else.”
>You take a sip of wine from your new glass.
“Don’t get me wrong, you helped quite a bit, as did others. But…”
>”I understand, don’t worry. I can imagine being tossed into an utterly alien world.”
“Not TOTALLY alien. I should just be happy that we speak the same language. Further than that, it’s a miracle that I can even breathe your air.”
>”Well theoretically, given that you-“
“Let me stop you there, we’ve been there before.”
>You take another sip.
“You know, the smallest part of me is still unsure if this is just one big coma-induced dream.”
>Twilight’s horn glows, as a quill begins to levitate over her desk.
>She brings it over and pricks you on the back of your hand.
“Ouch.”
>You say in a condescending tone.
>”Just making sure you aren’t dreaming.”
“Hey Twilight, you mentioned that the anniversary of Shining leaving the Crystal Empire for his voyage was two weeks ago. Does that mean that you and Flurry took note of it then?”
>>
>>28399172
>”Actually, I didn’t bring it up to her. I figured that she has enough on her plate with growing up as it is.”
“Is this really coming from you? Who are you, and what have you done with MY Twilight!”
>She sighs.
>”Very funny.”
“I jest, I jest.”
>”A shame the army is full of jesters.”
“Nope, just me.”
>”And why do I keep you around again?”
“Oh I can think of a few reasons.”
>”And what would those reasons be?”
“Mainly because of the whole ‘immune to magic’ thing, it’d be pretty hard to get rid of me.”
>”Uh huh.”
“But… to change topics, what’s your schedule like these next two days?”
>”I’m free, why?”
“I was thinking we should take Flurry out for a picnic tomorrow. Would you prefer the park or the lake?”
>>
More tomorrow
>>28399176
>”It’s been a long time since we’ve been to the lake.”
“Right, but sorry. My memory is a bit foggy, what happened that last time?”
>You remember that night perfectly.
>”Well that would be too easy. I’m sure we can find some way to jog your memory.”
“And how would you do that, exactly?”
>”Wait! Speaking of Flurry, where is she?”
“With friends, she’s to be here and in bed by ten.”
>”What friends?”
“I don’t know, why?”
>”Because a pack of timber wolves was seen near the outskirts of the Everfree a few weeks ago.”
“I’m sure that between the two of us, we’ve taught her to avoid monsters.”
>Twilight sighs once again.
>”I know, it’s just that I worry. If Shining comes back and Flurry was hurt while under my watch… our watch.”
“I know that you want to protect her, I do to. But she’s still a kid, and she deserves to enjoy her childhood as best as she can given her situation as a Royal and with her Father away.”
>- You break out of the confides of your memory.
[Hey Discord, skip forward to the lake.]
>[Do I look like a remote control to you?]
[You’re a disembodied voice, you look like what I say you look like. Now skip forward.]
>[Fine, as you command, Commandant.]

>Traversing through the caves a bright light shines through.
>Finally an exit.
>Surprising there aren't guards around.
>As you and the Arab get closer to the cave opening the sound of rushing water fills the air.
>Could it be?
>"By the grace of the young Sultan, it's beautiful."
>Walking out of the cave you both are standing at the mouth of Neighagra Falls.
"A wonderful sight indeed, but what plan we might have for our needs?"
>"It's getting late, I never leaned Equestria's topography well enough to go this deep. Any suggestions?"
>You think back to when you first entered the Academy.
>They would march you from Canterlot to Fillydelphia travelling right past these falls.
>One of the rest points always stuck with you, a place you would never forget.
"I know of a village down this path, hopefully they will greet us without a Griffons wrath."

"Hey March, come in-"
>March briskly walks past you.
"-side. Nice to see you too bro."
>"Where's your family?"
"Mary is in the kitchen and Fate's in the parlor. Why?"
>He quietly closes the door leading to the named rooms.
>"I'm sorry August, we have a problem. A big problem."
"I don't understand, what's wrong?"
>"The Ministry is back, and something big is happening. They are calling in all the squads back from their contracts early."
"And this is trouble because..."
>"It's trouble because they just bought every troop in the company. The last time that happened..."
>You think back to when Odla told you about Fallujog.
"How long do we have?"
>"They are calling for assembly briefing once everypony gets back to the Crystal Empire."
>You smile and put a hoof on his shoulder.
"Well we still have time for a dinner then. When was the last time you had something home made?"
>All March does is shake his head.
>"I'm really worried about this. Escorts and deliveries are cake walks compared to whenever they assign us something."
"Maybe it won't be too bad this time, you said they are getting everypony?"
>"Yeah?"
"Many hooves makes the load light. Maybe they need more workers for that major sewage project in Canterlot. Since you helped start it, they probably just need extra help finishing it off?"
>March just scoffs at your remark.
"Look, you are obviously stressed out. A little rest goes a long way. Let's just go into the next room and enjoy a nice meal with family. Then we can go to the assembly and find out what all this is about."
>"That...that sounds nice. What are we having?"
"Your favorite. A Hallsberry-n-Oats Casserole."
>His face goes squeamish for a second.
>"Sounds...delicious. Can't wait."
"And a nice plump apple pie for desert."
>March's face brightens a little.
>"With apples from that farm in Ponyville?"
"Fresh picked from that blonde mare herself."
>"Now that's something to get excited about!"

Also that is the end of Act VII

I've still got work to do for tomorrow, so there might not be an update till tomorrow afternoon

Seems like you're ending on an unfinished note in the flashback, but you're the writefag and you've been doing good so far...

>>28405296
Flashback stuff isn't over, there's just no good place to end without making that act much longer than the others. Each Act is 23/24 thousand words, and I hit 24k with the last update.(I could have had more closure with one of the other PoVs. but I want the flashback to be uninterrupted). So in interest of not rushing the memory bit and keeping it uninterrupted, act VII 'ends' with the fast forward to the next day.

"I know what I said, it's just that-"
>"It's not just him, it's everypony in the company."
>"Even you?"
>"Me, August, even our supervisors have to drop their duties and follow the MID's instructions."
>"I still don't like it. I had our whole week planned so we can spend it together."
"Me and March were going to head over and get some better insight as to what this is all about."
>As you and March get up a small tug comes from your shirt.
>"Dad don't leave yet! I can almost walk on my own now and I wanted to show you."
"When we get back you can show me and Uncle March. How's that sound?"
>With a frown he just shakes his head.
"Don't look so down, once this is all over I'll take us on a hike to Neighagra, then you can really show me how you move."
>As excitement shines from his eyes you make your way for the door.
>"Please be careful."
>"No need to worry Mary, old 'Uncle March' is going to watch your hubby like a hawk."
"I'll be fine. I'm more worried about the baby. What should we name him?"
>"Him? It's the first month, we have a long way to go to worry about names. What makes you so sure it'll be a colt anyway?"
"I...um"
>You give her a kiss on the nose and walk out the door.

>The doors shut with a slam as the last of the stallions enter the auditorium.
>On the stage stands a unicorn with two pegasus at his sides.
>"Ahem."
>For a moment everypony continued with their conversations ignoring the three until one of the pegasus steps forward.
>"QUIET!"
>All the commotion comes to a halt as all eyes turn towards him.
>"Thank you."
>With a very audible clearing of his throat he begins.
Good evening,
In today's changing world, our enemies surround us and would do anything to see the end of Equestria. Many ponies question the steps the Ministry takes. But we see a different world than you do. The world we see isn't so black and white. While many of you have fought against armies under foreign banners, we will be fighting against individuals who are no longer known to us. They are not nations, but individuals. Individuals who would like to see the destruction of Equestria just as badly as the Caspian's of Saddle Arabia. Our world is not transparent it's more opaque. In the shadows, and that is where we must fight. With that in mind the demand for workers of your kind are in high demand.
With your group's recent failure at Fallujog my superiors spoke against giving second chances. However due to ever changing situations we have no other options. Our enemies are competent, capable, and dangerous. Without a doubt it is their intentions to be the quiet assassins of Equestria's Monarchy and the Equestrian nation states.
>A shout comes from the audience.
>"Who the heck are our so called 'enemies'."
Both foreign and domestic, young or old, they all wish to see an end to our loving Princesses rule. So if you see your fellow Equestrian on the other side of your sword do not hesitate to give a killing blow for they will not.
>"Just tell us where you're sending us! Yakistani caverns? Arabian dunes?"
You are all heading to the outskirts of Appleloosa immediately!

>Immediately was right.
>As he walked off staged the entire room was escorted with the persuasion of fully armored Royal Guards into the underground train station.
>As the dark tunnels turn to daylight you ponder over what happened.
>Appleloosa?
>What kind of extremists would camp out there?
>I need to send a letter or something to let Mary know where I am.
>March lightly punches your side.
>"Hey you were right, this is going to be great!"
"What makes you so sure?"
>"Appleloosa that's what!"
"Not sure I follow."
>"The most dangerous thing out there is a rattlesnake. And I doubt any of those country bumpkins can get organized enough to cause too much trouble."
"I don't know, don't you think it's a strange how they are shipping us in mass?"
>"Well yeah, almost like we're invading. Haha..."
>You both just stare at each other, then look back.
>Boxcar after boxcar holding around one-hundred stallions each.
>All fit for fighting.
>...
>"Okay everypony out. Now!"
"Where are we?"
>"Five miles out from Appleloosa. You all are walking to your new homes for the next eight months."
>"EIGHT MONTHS! FOR WHAT?"
>"Might be even longer, just depends."
"Depends on what? I have a family-"
>"You will receive payments bi-weekly, now out of the boxcars! MOVE!"
>As you are forced out of the car you mumble to yourself.
"I'm not worried about the money, I'm worried about them being alone."
>...
>It's pitch black out.
>The only source of light is coming from the leading unicorn.
>"Everypony follow me! Don't fall behind! Four lines only!"
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1YHvBUMdCVd
>The sound of cicadas and marching with the clanking of light armor fills the night air.
>Along with the occasional reminders from the Ministries overseers.
>"Stay quiet and stick to the flank of the pony in front, we can't risk being compromised."
>Through the light from the moon a tall structure comes into view.
>An old mine sticks out from one of Macintosh's Hills.
>So this is our new home.

>Walking into the mouth of the cave you are astounded by how big it is.
>There were a couple tents set up near the entrance but looking down the shaft it looks as if the entire structure was converted into a makeshift barracks.
>You are led into an assembly room where a variety of stands are set up.
>The leading unicorn is on a stage behind them.
>"Listen up! Now that we have you here we can proudly proclaim you are all Federal Employees."
>Confusion spreads through the crowd before coming back to his attention.

"Due to the nature of our goals and the heavy investment we made. My superiors have decided to fully integrate your company, with me as your new head overseer, into the many folds of businesses and guilds we eh, cooperate with..."
*Ahem*
"To make the transition easier we already seiz-secured all of your identification documents from your now former employers offices. All that is left for you all to do is sign a document and receive your new 'class identification' cards. NOW LINE UP AGAIN!"
>...
>After a long wait you finally get to one of the stands.
"Hello, I'm Aug-"
>"Ah yes Mr. Thrust. Please sign here and hoofprint here."
>The unicorn pulls out some papers and you quickly do as he says.
>He then takes out a tiny card.
>"Your assigned room should be on C-4. Oh lucky you, that's right next to your workplace."
"Workplace? I'm stationed inside the cave?"
>"You were a smelter and smith before right? So we have given you 'Class C Identification'."
"You say that as if I know what that means."
>"C is the lowest, you can't and won't be told anything too detailed about mission statuses and arrangements."
"Why? We already were given the speech about why we are here."
>"Security purposes. Your job consists of repairing, upgrading, or creating their gear, you have no reason to know any more than what you already know."
>He stamps the card and gives it to you.
>On it was your picture, name, and a giant red C.
>"Welcome to the Ministry. Next!"
>>
>>28424189
>After navigating your way through the crowd you find March leaning against a wall.
"This is crazy."
>"I know right? In all my years I would've never guessed I'd be working for the feds."
"Not that! The fact that we are now living and working out of a cave."
>"I guess that's crazy too, but at least we won't be here long, I'm going on my first mission tomorrow. What about you?"
"I have a Class C card, I'll be working here while you go out on an adventure. What are you."
>"Because I was a squad captain I'm Class A. So what does C mean?"
"It means I'm not allowed to know anything. Just work."
>"Jeez that sounds terrible, so that also means we can't really talk."
"Well we can, just not about work. Your work."
>You both awkwardly stand there amidst the crowd.
"I'll let you rest up for tomorrow, I'm going to go find my room."
>"Alright. I'm in A-1 by the way."
"C-4. See ya."
>...
>Before leaving however you try to find the Head Overseer.
>There.
"Excuse me Sir? A word."
>"Sure thing, is there a problem?"
"Is there a way for me to send messages?"
>"The mail-mare doesn't exactly have this address, not to mention that would be a huge breach of security."
"There's no connectivity to the outside world at all?"
>"There is one, but it's for my personal use and it goes directly to headquarters in Canterlot or our satellite branches in each city."
"Would you be willing to let me use it?"
>"By Celestia no!"
"Please, I just would like to send a note to my wife."
>He eyes you cautiously probably weighing his options.
>"Let me see your badge."
>Before you can get a bite on it he uses his horn and pulls it out from your pocket.
>"Class C hmm?"
>He gives out a sigh and puts the card back in your pocket.
>>
>>28424446
>"Under normal conditions I would never allow such a request, but I'm in a good mood. So yes. Not like you can spill secrets anyway."
"Thank you so much Mr. Overseer. I promise I'll-"
>"Under these circumstances. You can send one message once a week. Plus just to make sure things stay secure, your letters will be opened and read. So don't be too graphic when writing your wife."
"That...is understandable. I will keep things child appropriate. Mary will probably read them to my son anyway."
>"You have a son?"
"Yes, me and my wife also have another on the way. Still too early to tell if it'll be a colt or filly."
>"Well consider this my foalshower gift. Now I must be going."
"Thank you again. You can expect a letter right away."
>With a roll of his eyes he turns and walks out of the mine.
>You felt as if you won a gold medal at the Equestrian Games.
>It wasn't much, but at least you can keep in contact.
>With a smile you head deeper into the mine to find your assigned room.

“You know Twilight, this is… nice. Why did we stop coming here?”
>Flurry makes a large splash into the water.
>You and Twilight are sitting on a picnic blanket a dozen feet or so from the water line.
>”I don’t know. Time? You’re away more often than not, I’ve been taking on more duties, and Flurry gets busier and busier as she progresses in school.”
“She really wants us to get married you know.”
>”Think of the scandal.”
“I’d rather not.”
>Flurry continues swimming in the lake as you and Twilight it in silence for a while.
>Eventually she breaks it.
>”I took her to the Castle of the Two Sisters last month.”
“How’d she like it?”
>”She spent the entire time running off to play with old suits of armor.”
“That’s probably my influence.”
>”I tried to give her a lesson on its historical significance, but she just couldn’t sit still.”
“She’s only a kid.”
>”I know. After a few failed attempts I let her explore on her own… I was always close behind.”
“You figured that she deserves some time just to be a kid rather than the Princess?”
>”Yes. I asked myself what you would have done.”
“You’re supposed to be the strict one Twi.”
>”I am not strict, I’m structured. They are two entirely different concepts.”
“Not to children.”
>Twilight sighs before changing the subject.
>”So how were the last positions you were posted at.”
“They tried making me a Drill Sergeant for a while.”
>”And how did that go.”
“Complaints were lodged, and Celestia herself took me out of it after reviewing my methods. Apparently I’m too strict. I tried to explain the purpose of discipline, and that by my world’s standards I would have been the nicest drill instructor in the history of my species. But she still reassigned me.”
>”Well this isn’t your world.”
“I know. It just annoys me.”
>>
>>28426849
>”What does?”
“I shouldn’t speak ill of my superiors.”
>”Speak freely Sergeant.”
“Yes Ma’am.”
>You each laugh slightly at the exaggerated formalities.
“It’s just that all of the officers, all the way to high command have no idea what they’re doing. Almost all of them only got the job because they’re aristocrats. And I don’t think that any pony that holds the rank of Captain or above has ever even stepped onto a battlefield.”
>”That’s probably a good thing.”
“I’m from a cynical people. If you wish for peace, you must prepare for war.”
>”Forgive me for saying, but I’m glad that we don’t have that mentality.”
“Yeah… can I be honest for a second?”
>”You mean you weren’t being honest before?”
“Just a figure of speech.”
>”I know.”
“Honestly I’m thinking about retiring. Equestria doesn’t need an army, not really. And they certainly wouldn’t be lost without me.”
>”Flurry would certainly like having you around full time.”
“Just Flurry?”
>”Well-“
>”Excuse me. Your Highness. Sergeant.”
>You glance over to the pony that is interrupting your conversation.
>A pale blue earth pony with a short kept blank mane, and wearing the unadorned light steel armor of a soldier.
“Lancer?”
>”Sergeant Lancer now.”
“How’d you ever make it past Corporal?”
>Twilight coughs.
“Oh, sorry. Let me introduce you two. Twilight, this is my friend Corp- Sergeant R.M. Lancer. We went through basic training together, but lost touch after that. Different posts and all that. Lancer, as you know, this is the Princess of Friendship, Twilight Sparkle.”
>”I’m honored to make your acquaintance Princess Sparkle.”
>”Please, any friend of Anon’s is a friend of mine. You can just call me Twilight.”
>”With all due respect, I’ll stick to Princess for now.”
“What are you doing here Lancer, last I knew you were shipped over to Fillydelphia.”
>>
>>28426856
>You glance over at Flurry, who is busy playing on a swing over the water in the distance.
>”I’m here to deliver this letter to you.”
>He holds out a letter that he took from a satchel over his shoulder.
“Have you doing mail runs now?”
>You open op the letter and give it a quick read through.
>Lancer then speaks as you stare at the page.
>”Congratulations Lieutenant. I’m under your command now.”
>Twilight then quips:
>”At least there’s once good officer.”
“I don’t know what to say honestly.”
>Lancer’s tone then gets more serious.
“You’ll be under the command of Captain Summer Soldier.”
>Summer Soldier… based on the name you assume him to be a highly dedicated and decorated warrior.
>Yeah, no.
>Lancer continues.
>”We’re headed up to Manechester.”
“I’m on leave right now.”
>”Not anymore. We’re headed up to Manechester. All of us. Every single pony in the army.”
>Twilight is first to ask the obvious question.
>”Why?”
>>
More on the weekend. I'll update the pastebins then as well.
>>28426863
>”Because we’re at war. Three days ago the yaks recalled their diplomats, and started moving their warriors. They entered Equestrian soil yesterday; their heading puts them on a direct line to Canterlot. Princesses Celestia and Luna are trying to keep things quiet in case a diplomatic solution can be found. But until then every soldier, all three thousand of us are heading to stop the yak advance at Manechester. It’s right on their path, and all of our troops should be able to arrive there before the yaks do.”
“How many yaks are coming?”
>”Estimates are between ten and thirty.”
>”Hundred?”
>”Thousand.”
>Possibly ten to one.
>And based on what you’ve seen of the Equestrian military, the yaks also have quality on their side.
“When do we leave?”
>”There’s a train waiting with a few dozen other soldiers heading that way.”
>Twilight was about to comment, but you spoke up first.
“Just… give me a minute. Head back now, I’ll be there shortly.”
>He salutes.
>”Yes Sir. Ma’am.”
>As he gets out of earshot, you turn back to Twilight.

>How can a pony have a personal dragon?

For comparison, it's word count is roughly between the 6th and 7th Harry Potter in size or about 10k words longer than the Fellowship of the Ring.

>This is it.
>This is really really it.
>A real, honest to God war.
>Before Twilight can speak, you start the conversation.
“Look, I know what you’re thinking. War isn’t the answer and many will die pointlessly. Sometimes the world needs pointless death, to remind themselves about why it doesn’t have any meaning. I’m a soldier, which means I’ll put myself in harm’s way so innocents don’t get caught in the crossfire. I have to do this Twi, even if it means I myself have to die in that battle.”
>”What about Flurry?”
“She’s a tough kid… and even if that happens, she’ll still have you.”
>”With each passing day, her mother is getting more and more distant to the world. Flurry needs family that’s always there for her.”
“I know Cadence is taking it hard, but that will pass eventually. Things can sometimes get worse before they get better.”
>”Just… promise me one thing.”
“I’m coming back, don’t worry.”
>”I think that I’ll still worry.”
“What else can you do?”
>”I think I’ll head for Canterlot. Maybe I can help Celestia negotiate with the yaks; after all I do have some experience with them.
“You do what you need to. Just stay safe.”
>”Oh, I’m the one that should stay safe.”
“Not being safe is in my job description.”
>”That’s no excuse.”
“They yaks are similar to the Mongols from my world’s history.”
>”And what did they do?”
>>
>>28444219
(Should be >The yaks
Not >They yaks)
“They conquered indiscriminately and ravaged the land and people they fought. After the end of their conquests, due to either the fighting or plagues that they let travel, almost half of an entire continent’s population was killed. Around a fifth of my entire species.”
>”That’s horrible.”
“The worst part is that their empire didn’t last. Roman society lasted for two thousand years in some form and laid the entire basis for every civilization that came after them. The British built much of my modern political and economic world. Napoleon’s France was extremely progressive for the time and laid the foundation for the majority of modern law. The Mongols only cared about fighting and gold.”
>Most of those statements are arguable, but you’re making a point to put her at ease.
“If the yaks are even slightly similar, they’ll raid and pillage every town and city they go past. So if my orders are to stop them at Manechester, then I’ll do my part or die trying.”
>>
More tomorrow.
>>28444222
>You’ve had many other philosophical and practical discussions with Twilight, but before today they were mostly theoretical.
“I know you don’t agree, but it’s my duty.”
>You stand from the ground you were sitting on.
“I need to go… I’m sorry.”
>You walk over to the water’s edge, and start heading north around the lake to where Flurry was playing.
“Hey, kiddo.”
>She swims over and exits the water, shaking off her coat.
>”Yeah Uncle.”
“I know I promised you the entire weekend, but I need to go.”
>”What! Why?”
>You kneel down to get closer to her level.
“There’s battles that need to be fought.”
>”Can’t they put it off just one more day?”
>You chuckle slightly.
“Look at it like this; I’ll have more stories to tell you. And these ones will be firsthand accounts.”
>She makes a pouty face.
>”Alright.”
>She’s actually rather mature for her age.
>She pouts and complains, but she knows that you have to go.
>Even if she isn’t letting on that she does know that.
>”Hey Uncle?”
“Yeah kiddo?”
>”Remember to stick them with the pointy end.”
>You reach over and rustle her wet mane.
“I haven’t forgot that.”
>She lurches forward and hugs you.
>Which you reciprocate.
>”Don’t worry kid. If everything goes alright I’ll be back well before Hearths Warming Eve.”
>- It turned out that you wouldn’t be back in time for that.

>Hammers clank against hot metal.
>The heat from the furnace is immense.
>A broken sword is already laying on your station waiting to be cared for.
>You quietly work on mending its wound.
>”Hey August can you let me borrow your splitter? Mine got kinked again.”
>You set down the tool on his bench and stare puzzled at what he was working on.
“Still trying to be a famous inventor Matchlock?”
>”This one I almost have working!”
“That’s exactly what you said last time when you tried strapping paper wings to yourself.
>”Hey I flew for a second!”
“Jumping off the office complex isn’t exactly what I would call flying, besides we have the air ships for travel.”
>”But I want to fly like the pegasus do! Free to go wherever and whenever.”
“Come on dude it’s just not meant to be, if you were meant to fly you would’ve been born with wings.”
>He grunts at your comment and turns back to his bench.
“Alright so are you going to tell me what your crazy mind has thought of making this month?”
>”Well only because you asked so nicely...”
>He lifts up what looks like a giant pipe with a pole sticking out from under it.
>"This my friend, is a side-saddle cannon!"
"A what?"
>"Basically it's a miniaturized cannon that anypony can hold. You see, just like a lance, you hook it up on your side and balance it on the wooden stilts to aim it."
>He hooks it up to his right shoulder and carefully balances the large metal tube on the stilts.
>"I can give you a quick demonstration, put that bottle at the other end of the room."
>You do as the wide eyed stallion says and get back to his side.
"Is this safe?"
>"It should be theoretically."
"Theoretically?"
>"Like I said you load it like a normal cannon, shove the powder down then set in the projectile carefully inside."
>He proceeds to load the miniature cannon as awkwardly as expected and lights the fuse.
>"And with just a little ignition it can shoot a projectile faster then you can say-"
>>
>>28455404
>Smoke fills the room while you and Matchlock cough your lungs out.
"I thought *cough* you said it *cough* was safe?"
>"Theoretically safe!"
"So not at all?"
>"Oh shut up, *cough* this is just the first model!"
>The door swings open letting in some much needed fresh air.
>"WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE PRINCESSES IS GOING ON IN HERE!"
>"Just testing a little experiment."
>"I don't care what 'experiments' you run on your free time Lock! But when you are on the clock you get to actual work! By the looks of things you two haven't done any work at all!"
>He motions towards the far wall where the bottle was still perched up.
>Alas instead of hitting the bottle the bullet hit a row of finished shields piercing all of them.
>"Those shields are supposed to be due tomorrow and I expect to see them on the next scouting trip!"
>With a slam of the door he leaves the two of you still recovering from the blast.
"Theoretically safe my flank."
>"Hey it wasn't so bad, now I missed the bottle sure-"
"And simultaneously cost us another day's of work."
>"-But just imagine the carnage if a whole row of earth stallion had these."
"Most of the stallions here barely know how to handle bladed weapons."
>You lift up the still damaged sword on your bench.
"What makes you think they can handle miniaturized cannons? Heck even well trained teams on actual cannons run into problems more times than not."
>"Say what you will, once we get out of here I'm selling my designs to the highest bidder."
"If you even get any bidders."
>"Oh shut up, we have a lot of work to do."
>>
>>28455603
>It took all day, but it's finally done.
>The sun was already low bu the time you left your workplace.
>You are starving, haven't eaten all day.
>You casually walk up the stairs until you almost reach the surface entrance.
>The cool breeze feels magical compared to the hours spent by the furnace.
>Due to a methane leak they sealed off the 'cafeteria' inside the caverns so the mess hall was moved to the old office building outside.
>As you were about to head out you spot March exiting the assembly hall.
"Soldier! What news from the front?"
>He gives a small chuckle from your witty remark.
>"Nice to see you August...You look like manure."
"I can say the same thing about you, wanna get some food? I haven't eaten at all today, had to pull a double shift."
>"Um, sure I could eat. Go ahead and get a seat, I gotta do a quick inventory check."
"Alright."
>You both head out together and see him to the storage building that's right next to the offices.
"Why'd they move all the stuff out here?"
>"You think it's safe to keep dynamite stored underground in a forty-year old mine?"
"Point taken. I'll see you in a minute."
>You get your food and wait.
>A good dozen or so is also in the mess hall getting a late night dinner.
>You convene with a couple before getting a more private table.
>Then you wait.
>And wait...
>Something doesn't seem right.
>March is awfully taking his sweet time.
>Usually you'd just wait it out, but something was different about today.
>Whatever it was you bring yourself to step outside.
>It's freezing now.
>Through the wind you push yourself across the courtyard.
>There was a flicker of light out of the corner of your eye, but as you turned it was gone.
>Doesn't really matter.
>Getting to the office door you fling it open.
"What's the big idea? You counting each stick of-"
>You are stopped mid-sentence at the sight.
>Your brother slumped on the ground with a puddle of blood around his head and neck.
"Marc-"

>Your ears are ringing.
>No, bleeding.
>It's about ten times worse than when Matchlock fired his mini-cannon.
>Through dust and smoke it's hard to distinguish anything?
>You get control of your thoughts again.
>What happened?
>Why was March on the-
"MARCH!"
>In front of you where the building stood, all that was left is rubble.
>Frantically you try to lift slabs of rock and concrete to no avail.
>Some wailing catches your attention.
>It was from the office buildings you were just eating in.
>It too was a pile of smoking debris.
>A couple ponies were outside though.
>Good, hopefully they are-
>You stare wide eyed as the smoke cleared.
>One was impaled on a beam while the close companion's chest was torn open.
>A tall figure approaches them still covered up by the smoke.
>Thank Celestia someone who will help.
>Just as you were about to call out for help the figure slashes the two with a saber.
>In horror all you can do is watch.
>It reaches down and stabs what looks like another body already on the ground.
>Your brain is telling you to run but you still look onwards.
>run.
>The figure stands tall and cleans his blade.
>run.
>After he cleans it he then fully faces you.
>Run fool.
>Eyes piercing through the smoke looking into your soul.
>Stop staring and run.
>He cocks his head takes a giant step towards you.
>RUN!!!
>The figure takes another monstrous step and you turn and run.
>Before you could make any progress you fall to your side in pain.
>Something is wrong.
>Why does your leg hurt.
>No it doesn't hurt.
>Why can't you feel your...
>You turn your head to look at your back left leg.
>It's...gone.
>Where is your leg?
>Where is-
>You cough up some blood and fall back on your side.
>As you look up the figure is now standing over you.
>Through the blood in your throat you cough out two words.
"M-mercy. *cough* Mercy please."
>He bends down to where is face is directly in front of yours.
>"Yes. Mercy."
>>

>Relief rushes over your body.
>He will spare you.
>You will see your home again.
>You will see your family again.
>You can feel the touch of your loving wife.
>You can-
>All you feel is a cold blade.
>You fall to the ground head down in your chest.
>Then he disappears into the smoke.
>Everything is cold.
>The pain in your leg is going away.
>Even your chest is feeling a relief of pressure.
>But everything is cold and getting colder.
>Why is everything getting blurry?
>Maybe a little nap will calm your head.
>You try and pull out the picture in your front pocket but it slips from your grasp and it lands face up just in front of your head.
>You see yourself, Father, Mary, Chance, Fate, and March all smiling and happy.
>One big happy family.
>You close your eyes and smile.
>I can't wait to see them when we finally get home.
>Almost home.

Epilogue

>Be Fate Thrust
>Its been about a year since Dad left home.
>He used to send a letter every week, but for the past couple months the letters stopped.
>Everyday Mom waits for the mailmare hoping for a letter.
>I'm happy my foaling sister is here with us.
>Mom's face always gets so happy whenever we are with her.

>*Knock Knock Knock*
>Mary hurriedly opens the door in hopes for a letter from the mailmare.
>Instead of the usual pegasus there's an Earth pony.
>He's wearing a dark blue suit, another stallion wearing the same thing was standing down by the curb.
>"Can I help you?"
>"Are you Mary S. Thrust? Wife of August Thrust?"
>"Yes! Where is my husband?! Where is August?!"
>"I...we represent the company who hired your husband for the last contract he had. We have some terrible news..."
>"Fate. Go take Destiny and wait in the dining room, I'll be there in a second."
>You quietly do as she says but keep an ear pressed against the door to try and make out what happened.
>"Ma'am, there is no easy way to say this..."
>After that first sentence all you hear is your mother crying.
>"He was working with miners, fixing their tools and whatnot. There was a methane leak and...they're gone. They're all gone."
>"....no........No...........NOOOOOOOOO! DEAR CELESTIA WHY!?"
>"All we can say is we are so sorry for your loss. Before we go, we are to inform you that he opened up an insurance policy that..."
>You pull your ear away from the door.
>>
>>28470614
"...Dad..."
>Sitting at the dining room table with Destiny sleeping soundly in her crib next to it.
>You stare at his empty chair taking in the knowledge that he is never coming home.
"Dad...you promised...."
"Once you get home I was going to show you and Uncle how I can walk again...."
"We...we were going to go to Neighagra...."
>Tears start to fall from your face as your head drops to the table.
>As you continue to cry you feel a hoof on your back.
>"Fate."
>"Don't cry Fate."
>You look up eyes still watery.
>It's your Dad.
>He stood with the warmest smile patting your back with his hoof.
"Dad!"
>You jump out of your chair and give him a hug.
>His soft fur felt like a cloud to your face.
"I knew you would come home! I knew you would!"
>"I told you I would be back, I don't think we can take that hiking trip though."
"I don't care! All that matters is that you are here now!"
>"You can't imagine how happy I am to see you walking."
>His face turns to a sorrow expression.
>"But I'm sorry my son, I have to go now."
"But you will be back to read me and Destiny a bedtime story right?"
>"Fate..."
>You spot a sparkly tear drop from his face.
>"Oh my wonderful loving son. I will always be with you."
>You notice his body is getting...transparent.
>"Even if you can't see me. If you ever want to talk, I will always be there to listen."
"D-dad?"
>"I love you son. Good-bye."
>His chest your hooves were wrapped around slowly dissipates to nothing as does the rest of his body.
>As completely disappears your body falls to the floor where he once stood.
"I love you too Dad."
>As you get up from the floor your Mom walks in.
>As she sees you she drops to your level and gives you a big hug.
>As she softly cries with you in her hooves you give her a pat on the back just as Dad did you.
"We will make it through this."
>"Thank you so much for being so strong for Mommy."
>You return the hug as more tears escape your closed eyes.
"I'm going to miss Dad."
>"Me too honey...me too."

>Awaking in your bed, you glance around at your room.
>The map on the ceiling, the hoof prints, and many of your old possessions from as a young filly.
>Letting out a sigh, you start to stand up from your bed.
>Your memory has to be the key to all of this.
>Everything is fine up until Appleoosa, and then it all gets spotty.
>Something happened and you received something.
>Then a war, you were in the Crystal Empire.
>Then Baltimare and Cloudsdale.
>Then the Royal Palace at Canterlot.
>Then… cold.
>Followed by the void and then all of this.
>The Crystal Empire Spire, a perfect recreation of it.
>It has to be a recreation, because there is no way this is real.
>You’re either dreaming in a coma, somepony is putting you through this, or…
>Or you’re dead.
>You really hope that isn’t the case.
>Stepping over to your balcony, you go to inspect the city below.
>No movement whatsoever.
>All of the streets and buildings are devoid of life.
>And the sun is stationary in the sky, putting the time around noon.
>Huh.
>Déjà vu.
>Shrugging off the strange feeling that you’ve seen this sight before, you stretch out your wings and start flying down into the city.
>Time to see how far this façade goes.
>Maybe there’s some sort of clue.
>You have to find something that can jog your memory.
>>
>>28479725
>…
>Well that’s interesting.
>As you walk through the streets of the Empire, you notice an anthill peeking out in a crack in the road’s pavement.
>But no ants.
>There are also spider webs without spiders, wasp nests without wasps, bird nests without birds, dog houses without dogs, and (of course) normal homes without any ponies.
>Each building you’ve been in is fully stocked and equipped, however has no occupants.
>Maybe you should have a séance.
>You nervously look around at the endless empty streets and buildings.
>Maybe that’s not a great idea…
>Looking up, you see the sun still high in the sky.
>It’s been around noon for as long as you’ve been here.
>In the few hours you’ve been wandering, the sun hasn’t moved an inch.
“Wait…”
>Haven’t you had this exact train of thought before?
>As in exact exact.
>Followed with your thoughts on why this has to be somepony or something making this entire fabrication…
>And then…
>Your eye is drawn to the spire.
>You need to get to the top because…
>Discord.
>He said something to you there; maybe being there will help your memory.
>>
>>28480114
>…
>Oh God.
>Your head.
>Right, you did drink quite a bit before going to sleep.
>”I think you have an apology to make.”
>Discords voice pierces your ear.
>But it isn’t disembodied anymore.
>Glancing to the side of your cot, you see him leaning against a crate not too far from you.
>As you start to sit up on the cot, you reach up and massage your temples.
“Quit yelling.”
>”I’m not yelling, you’re just got a hangover.”
>You look up at his smug smile.
“Thank you Discord.”
>”Thank you Discord…”
“For reminding me why I’m out here.”
>Flurry.
>Your little soldier.
>The only child you’ve ever known.
>And the only family you have left.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Do you expect a full confessional?”
>”I expected more than a sentence.”
“How about this: after this is all over, I WON’T burn your house down or kill you.”
>”I suppose that’s a start.”
“Now go on, shoo. I’ve got a situation to deal with… somehow.”
>”I’ll make a friend out of you yet.”
“You sound like Twilight did when I first met her.”
>Twilight.
>Maybe you’ll find out what happened to her too.
>And Shining.
>This isn’t a suicide mission for you anymore.
>This is a quest for the truth.
>You’re going to save your daughter, and find out what really happened to her family.
>And above all else, you’re going to come back to her.
>No mission or war has killed you, and this will be no different.
>”So deep in thought. Looks like my work is done.”
“Discord, wait.”
>”Hmm?”
“Thank you.”
>That time it was a genuine thanks.
>He grins slightly before disappearing.
>Now, let’s get up to the main deck.
>The fog is nothing more than a battle.
>A strange one, but a battle none the less.
>And you win battles.
>>
>>28480119
>…
>You pace back and forth atop the Spire.
>Some things are coming back to you.
>The battle against the yaks.
>Anon being injured afterword…
>By…
>Your mother?
>Why did she try to kill Anon?
>Why did she then try to kill you?
>The way she acted and talked…
>It’s like it wasn’t really your mother in the throne room.
>But Discord.
>What was it that he said?
>You look angrily at the sun, which is still just standing stationary in the sky.
>And then it hits you:
>’Fine, I’ll give you a hint: You’ve got what your dear mommy has.’
>But what?
>What does your mother have?
>What made her act that way?
>… What do you have?
>As you look away from the sky, an immense feeling of exhaustion overtakes you.
>All of the memories and feelings coming to you are rather taxing.
>Maybe a good rest will help you sort things out.
>...
>After you had flown down to your room and collapsed onto your bed, you almost immediately fell asleep.
>But as your eyes drifted shut, you could have sworn you heart a scurrying coming from beyond the closed door to your room.
>>
>>28480121
>…
>Stepping out of your makeshift room, you feel the waves rocking the ship.
>That’s good, with luck it could be a while before the next round of fog rolls in.
>A lot of the crew has already been lost to it, but now your only immediate goal is to make sure that no one more soul is taken.
>Whatever is out there in the fog has got to be the solution to it.
>That dark mass that appeared just outside of visual range in an early round.
>If you can get to that when it appears next, you just might be able to end this all.
>If it appears again.
>From your position on the lowest deck, you can’t hear a commotion from above.
>Well, that’s to be expected.
>It makes sense that the surviving crew would be quiet given the situation.
>As you go up the stairs to the next deck, you glance in each direction.
>Where is every-
>No.
>You begin jogging through the deck, and then check the gun deck above you.
>After going through every room of that one, you step out onto the main deck.
>The ship is empty.
>Completely empty.
>They’re gone.
>Everyone.
>Over two hundred people gone.
>The sails are all rolled up, and the ship is just idling on the waves.
>You just stand there for a minute taking in the ghost ship as every hope you had is crushed.
>What the hell are you supposed to do?
>>
Ideally my schedule should relatively stabilize soon, so hopefully I'll be back in regular writing system.

This is it for the night, I need sleep for classes tomorrow.

>Even if you knew how to operate this ship, there’s no way you could do it alone.
>With the supplies on board you could survive for quite some time.
>But to what end?
>It’s not like there’s a rescue ship coming.
>You could stock a longboat with as much as it can carry and try to make your own way.
>By rowing…
>And as soon a brisk wave hits, you’d be capsized.
>Let alone a storm hitting.
>There is the possibility that Discord could help.
>You’re not sure how to think about that.
“Hey, Discord?”
>No reply.
“Yeah, I figured.”
>Well…
>You only have one option.
>To stay on the ship.
>But you sure as hell aren’t going to just sit here till you run out all the rations.
>A single sail might be manageable by one person.
>Any movement is better than no movement.
>If you recall correctly, there should be naval manuals in the captain’s quarters.
>Looks like you’re the captain now.
>You begin walking over to the doors to the cabin.
>It sounds incredibly eerie to only hear one set of footsteps on the main deck.
>Opening the door, you’re met with-
>”Figures you’d still be here.”
>The voice catches you off guard.
>Tiara is sitting at her center table, facing the doors.
>A half empty bottle of what looks to be rum is sitting on the table directly in front of her.
“What happened?”
>”The fog came.”
>She grabs the bottle and takes a swig.
>”Everypony then started to feel the symptoms after it left. Well, not me, but the rest of the crew did. It only lasted a few minutes, and then after an hour of chaos, it came again. Nopony’s left now…”

>As you look up into its dripping jaws and bloodshot eyes all you can do is smile.
“Thank you friend. You truly are a godsend.”
>The beast stopped with a surprised look on its face
>Or faces…
>The many tentacles and limbs seem to fall and mesh into one another until only the form of a filly remained.
>”Friend? You want to be my friend?”
>This was your very first encounter with Thingpone.
>Your very first friend.
>You both only had one thing in common, but that one thing is what built your friendship up.
>Being persecuted for your looks and actions.
>Forced to live at the edge of Ponyville in the Everfree Forest.
>Your mother Zecora said it wasn’t so bad years ago, before Ponyville turned from a small farm village into a real town.
>Not as big as Manehatten or Baltimare.
>But big enough to bring in the more, ‘nationalistic crowd’.
>The kind that would drive out anyone from town if they weren’t a pony.
>Thing didn’t exactly have the same scenario as you, but nonetheless it was nice to have a companion while you lived alone in the woods.
>One day a mob drove her from Everfree and you wouldn’t see her again until applying for the Royal Guard.
>Dalton quickly filled the void in that time.
>Years later when going on the long marches to Fillydelphia traversing through Hollow Shades is when you would see her again.
>Now you are back.
>Back in a forest feeding a would be assassin to her.

>As your eyes start to drift open, you turn to lie on your back.
>The painted map of Equestria is right above you, and you pause to inspect it.
>Yesterday you ended up in this empty spire, identical to the one in the Crystal Empire.
>And the outside city looks to be identical as well.
>How did you get here?
>You start tracing a rough route on the map above your head.
>Appleoosa, where something happened… or you got something.
>A war, leading you to the Crystal Empire with Anon, where he was injured.
>Then Manehattan, Baltimare, and Cloudsdale.
>Finally, you remember Canterlot… something about the throne room.
>That is, until everything went cold.
>After the cold you were in the void…
>Are you dead?
>No, you can’t be…
>Right?
>No, this has to be some sort of dream or hallucination.
>You’ve got to be in a coma or somepony/something has you under some sort of spell.
>But why do you get the feeling that you’ve had that though before?
>It must have passed through your mind yesterday.
>Shrugging off the notion, you begin to get out of bed.
>After all, you’ve got to search through the city today.
>You might find some clue as to where you really are or what this entire… thing is.
>Well, there’s no time to waste.
>>
>>28509486
>…
>Well that’s… something.
>You look through the repot once again.
>Nope, that’s clearly what it says.
>How?
“Uhh, General?”
>”I know.”
>Wave replies.
“There’s no mention of casualties, was anypony injured?”
>”No, thankfully.”
>The door to the meeting room opens as Offense enters.
>”Sorry I’m late, got caught up giving a speech to a batch of recruits in basic training… what’s wrong?”
“Well, apparently a steel mill in Manehattan reported that all of the steel they had on the line was…”
>”Go on lad, spit it out.”
“It was turned into gelatin… and much of it melted due to the heat, coating almost the entire factory in, and I’m quoting this from a first-hoof report: goop.”
>Wave then continues.
>”It will take weeks to get the factory cleaned out and back in working order.”
>Offense begins laughing.
>”Haha, oh that’s a good one. You two really had me for a second… Now what’s really the issue?”
>Neither you nor Wave reply.
>Offense pauses as you all sit in silence.
>”You’re being serious aren’t you?”
>Wave nods in silence.
>”Oh for the love of… don’t tell me it’s…”
>”Discord, yes.”
>”Why?”
>”Unsure, however…”
>”What is it Red?”
>Wave grabs a rather large manila folder.
>”There have been a few dozen repots of smaller scale… incidents. And these are only the ones we know about.”
>”Let me see that.”
>Wave slides the folder over as Offense takes a seat.
>As Offense starts skimming the folder, he mutters a few thoughts.
>”A swimming pool turned into lemonade… disgusting… gravity reversed in a home… it rained confetti in Cloudsdale… this one involves three goats, a roll of duct tape, and a candelabra… Wow… Oh that’s… did they have to include pictures?... More pictures, oh I think I’m going to be sick.”
>>
Be back later tonight.
>>28509644
>Offense closes the file.
>”I’ll just take your word on the rest of them.”
>As Offense pushes the file back, General Wave begins speaking.
>”Aside from a sprain here or there and a few ponies needing therapy, there haven’t been any injuries… yet.”
>”He did release that chimera on the outskirts of Canterlot.”
>”That’s why I said yet. These date back a week or so, but his incidents are getting more malicious.”
>“And what are we going to do about it?”
>”I’d kill him, but given that he’s immortal…”
“But what’s causing him to act out?”
>Offense answers you:
>”That’s a good question.”
>”At a guess, I’d say he’s testing the waters. Without any Alicorns able to put him in line, he’s getting audacious.”
“But hasn’t it been years since he really did anything purposely malicious?”
>Wave continues:
>”After he was “reformed” there have been a few cases, but for the most part he fixed what he broke.”
“So why don’t we just… you know… talk to him?”
>Offense then blurts out:
>”What? Ask him nicely to play nice with us mere mortals?”
“Is there anything else we could actually do?”
>Wave then speaks:
>”We could try to get him in a magic dampening field, but after the Gala, I’m not sure he’ll fall into that trap so easily.”
>Wave pauses for a moment, clearly detesting what he’s about to say.
>”I’ll wait for Lancer to give the final word… but talking to Discord might be out only option.”
>”Aye, and just hoping he doesn’t revert completely. What could possibly go wrong?”
“You just had to say that, didn’t you?”

>After wrestling the bottle from her, you laid her into her bed, making sure to have her face on its side next to a bucket in case she needs to vomit.
>And now you were in one of the chairs facing her, waiting for her to sleep off the rum.
>While in thought, you poked through a few papers on her desk.

>Six were taken the first time, thirty-six the next, and two hundred and eighteen the final time.
>Exponential in sixes.
>Leaving only you and Diamond Tiara.

>And there’s only a one in two hundred and fifty-nine chance that she was the last pony member of the crew by luck alone.
>Why was she left while everyone else was taken?
>The obvious answer is because she’s the Captain of the ship.
>And that then begs the question of why the ship’s Captain was left for last.
>You exhale a large sigh, not knowing the answer to that question.
>But, in more practical matters, if the fog doesn’t take her, you might make more progress.

>She gives out one last wailing scream before all her limbs go limp.
>As she lays on the forest floor her head cocks to look at you.
>You see something you never saw in her before.
>Fear.
>She kept her gaze until one final slash from the illuminated blade severs her head in two.
>"Come. We need to leave this evil place. Who knows what else could be lurking in these trees."
"Y-yes. Let us leave. For there is no reason to weep or grieve."
>As you pass by her corpse you notice it starts to liquefy.
>Bones, tendons, muscles, everything.
>Slowly start to form a large black puddle staining the forest floor.
>Could you have helped her?
>No...no that glowing...it was...
>It was as if he had power from an Alicorn.
>How can somepony like him have that ability?
>Aren't all Arabs Earth ponies just like Zebra?
>How can-
>"You want me to tell you what that was yes?"
>Freezing on the path you turn to look at him.
>"How a mere mortal like me can wipe out an impure abomination such as that?"
>He draws his sword and points it at your neck.

>Trottingham.
>Only a couple miles away from Starlight's Village.
>The only thing stopping you and Fortune from getting there are the legions of reinforcements and supplies of the Griffons.
>All camped up nice and tight in front of the entrance to the mountain passage.
>You and Fortune peer down at the camp on top of a hilltop.
>There everything can been seen.
>From the barracks tents to the supply sheds.
>Everything.

>"Only way to make it to Trottingham is through the caves or around on the train."
"Since the railways got blown to smithereens i say the cave is the best option."
>"How about the sea? Trottingham is on the Griffish Isles. We can get a dingy and-"
"and get spotted by Griffon scouts and get torn to pieces. Nice."
>"Well we can't go through the caves! I would rather take the risk at sea rather than marching straight through their supply lines!"
"It's fine. I have an idea, but we would need to somehow sneak into their mess tent."
>"What? You want to make yourself a snack before we get gutted?"
"You need to get to Trottingham and I have a plan. Now are you going to help me or not?"
>Fortune sighs and looks back down to the camp.
>"There it is. Right at the edge of the camp by those two rocks. Shouldn't be to hard to get into. So what's your plan?"
>A mischievous smile comes across your face.
"A friend of mine told me about a little trick that helped us escape the Griffons before."
>"Trick? You mean poison right? By the time that takes effect the alarm will be raised and barely an eighth of them would be-"
>You put a hoof to her lips.
"Not poison..."
>Adjusting your voice you try and mimic Saculs's accent.
"A dish of madness is what they'll eat, spreading through the camp it will...um....defeat..."
>How in Tartarus do they speak like this?
>"What are you babbling about? We don't have time for this, the more we wait the more Griffons we'll have to deal with."
"Just follow my lead, once it starts we'll have to find a hiding place and fast!"

Oh wait a minute...I remember one of you Anon's said you were also with me during the Great Trixie Crusade.
So here's this until I return.
Until I can get my thoughts back together from the rest of the weeks clusterfuck of tasks.
>>
>>28524048
>Be Trixie
>It's been five years since 'the incident' with Twilight's Castle.
>Work is hard but at least you aren't alone.
>After preventing his nation from falling into civil war, Bernhard decided to join your caravan.
>As he put it, he 'wanted to experience more of Equestria's fine hospitality'.
>The sly stallion.
>It only took a couple of weeks of riding together before you both wanted to get married.
>It was a quaint modest wedding.
>The only ponies you invited were your best friends Starlight and Sunburst.
>Bernhard's brother Ulrich refused to show for whatever reason.
>No matter, now you had what you never had before.
>A special somepony.
>Somepony who supported and loved everything you did.
>Everything was almost perfect.
>There was just one thing left on your bucklist.
>Having your very own foal.
>>
>>28524125
>"You are barren Ms. Lulamoon. It would be physically impossible for you to have a foal."
>Those words were a nightmare you couldn't wake up from.
>Depression hit you like a ton of bricks.
>You stopped doing shows and became distant with everypony.
>It got so bad you almost cut ties with your best friends.
>However persistence is a quality the three ponies you love have.
>They were always there when you needed them.
>With Starlight, Sunburst, Bernhard's support and love the burden was lightened, but the pain still ached in your heart.
>You started doing shows again but it just wasn't the same.
>Bernhard saw you were in distress so he thought of a way to take a little pressure off of you.
>He would sing as your opener.
>And it worked.
>For a stallion he had an alicornian voice.
>Ponies would come from all over to see the two of you perform.
>It almost seemed things were starting to get back to normal.
>Then everything changed when the war started.
>>
>>28524142
>The Great Coastal War is what everypony called it.
>Stallions all over Equestria filled in the ranks for what the Arabs did.
>All of those innocent lives slaughtered.
>10/12 Never forget.
>For what it's worth we are winning.
>The war was coming to a close.
>Within the first year Equestria dominated the vital waters decimating the Arab navy.
>Now we are knocking at the doors of the Capitol itself.
>An overwhelming victory.
>You thought it would be a good idea to volunteer your services doing shows at field hospitals.
>All the traveling and shows kept your mind busy.
>You practically forgot about having a foal, work filled that void now.
>The songs of love, home, and national pride helped draw many soldiers in for your tricks and illusions.
>However many soldiers you assume came because they haven't seen a mare in months.
>It's not like your cape covered everything.
>You're a married mare now, but you still don't mind the extra attention.
>Still got it.
>Both of you are making your way to the next camp.
>The MP's said it is safer to travel at night.
>Bandits were a threat but with a cart that big they would assume you had a large amount of ponies with you.
>It was closer to the front than most camps, but it was still worth it to see joy on their faces.
>The sun slowly starts to rise and the camp can be seen just over the horizon.
>M*A*S*H* Camp 4077. Outskirts of Meccaspia, Saddle Arabia.
>>
>>28524231
>Almost there.
>Just a couple more hours til...
>"Daaaaaaah"
>Crying?
>The cart slows to a halt as you scan the area for its source.
>A small colt is off the road in the desert.
>You unhook yourself from the cart and walk over.
>The small colt is huddled over a lump.
>What is he...oh no.
>A dead Arabian mare with a cut through her throat.
>Water canteens and other various caravan articles littered the area.
>"Momma. Momma wake up please. We need to go before they come back!"
>You could hear Bernhard getting out of the cart.
>"Hey honey, everything alrig-oh...oh dear."
>"Momma, Momma please! I hid like you said. You promised everything would be okay if I hid. Wake up please!"
"We need to take him."
>"What?"
"What do you mean 'what?'! Whoever did that could still be around here! You want him to meet the same fate as his mom?"
>"Trix, I know you've wanted a foal of your own, but this is-"
"This isn't about that! We need to-"
>You were cut short by the screaming of the colt.
>"AHHhhhhhh! Stay away!"
>The tiny Caspian hurriedly tries to hide himself under his mothers khimar.
>Out of pure instinct you run towards the crying colt.
>Worryingly your other half follows closely.
>When you get close you see him on his back crying hysterically.
>So small. So fragile.
>What a terrible thing to happen to a child.
>"Take what you want! Leave me and my Momma alone!"
>Carefully you approach closer.
"Honey. Are you alright? I am here to help."
>The crying turns to sobs.
>"M-my mother won't get up. Please do something!"
>You look sorrily look at the now orphaned colt.
>How can you tell a practically newborn colt that his parent is dead?
>>
>>28524345
"I...I can..."
>Bernhard steps forward with the most solemn expression on his face.
>"What little understanding the pure know about how the world works."
>He bends down wipes the tears away from the child's face.
"Little one. Your mother is dead. There is nothing we can do."
>Almost instantaneously the colt burst into tears.
"What in the name of Celestia WAS THAT!?"
>"Accepting she is gone will help the healing process."
"Yeah but could you at least have dropped it a little softer? He is just a colt!"
>"That's just how I was told when...I didn't think th-"
"Exactly you don't THINK! Not everypony was raised in whatever war-torn land you came from. Now what are we-"
>You are interrupted by more sobbing.
"D-don't worry honey, w-we will take care of you."
>"For now at least."
>You shoot him a glare.
>He moves closer for a whisper.
>"We can't just take him along. What if they were heading to a refugee camp where the rest of his family is at?"
"I know that, but we just can't abandon him."
>"I'm not suggesting that. Maybe the field hospital has an idea about neighboring refugee areas. We will get more information their and then hopefully reunite him with the rest of his family."
>He turns to the sobbing colt.
>"Don't worry son, things will get better. Trust me, I know exactly how you are feeling now."
>He picks him up and places him on your back.
>"W-what about my mom, we can't leave her here!"
>"Don't worry, she will be alright."
>He leads you both back to the cart.
>"Both of you get some rest. I'll pull the cart."
>Before entering you watch him grab a shovel and walk back to the mare.

"Things will be better once we get to the camp."
>The colt was napping in your arms while you lay on the queen sized cot you and Bernhard shared.
>You just held him in your arms keeping him warm.
"Why would anyone want to hurt a little guy like you? Don't worry, Trixie is here now."
>You feel the cart begin to move.
>Looking out you see a small mound of dirt where you both were standing.
"Get some rest sweetie. You definitely deserve it."
>For the rest of the ride you stay cradling the colt.
>While you held him it felt as if time slowed down.
>His flowing little white mane was so soft.
>His tiny body was a darker shade of white with small spots of fur that shined like gold.
>A beautiful little bundle of joy.
>As you sat their admiring him the cart comes to a sudden halt.
>The door opens.
>Bernhard looks exhausted. He was covered in dust and dirt.
>Strains were dug into his shoulders from the harness for pulling too hard.
>"We're here now. I'll go tell the Commanding Officer our situation. Are you two okay?"
"He's sleeping as soundly as he can. I can't imagine what it must be like to..."
>You stop and look up to see Bernhard with his head down.
>"Y-yeah..."
"I-I'm sorry. I had no idea, you never really talked about your past and I just assumed-"
>"It's fine, it's my fault for not being so open. With Ulrich I never really had to be, we were always on the move. Always doing some task between the royals. We never got the chance to get close to anypony..."
>He puts up a weak smile.
>"...until we came to Equestria."
>You stare at each other for a moment.
"C'mon let's get things settled so you can rest up."
>>
>>28524814
Yes, hopefully here.
>>
>>28524904
>"What do you mean there are no refugees around here!?"
>"Like I said, we are a Military Hospital. We care for soldiers not displaced civilians.
"What my husband is trying to say is that, don't you have any records to where they might be?"
>"The closest camp would be way back at Damascolt on the coast."
>"Well is there anyway to ship him out that way?"
"We are not just leaving him on a cart!"
>"You won't be able to anyway, the next supply carts to come won't be here for-"
http://vocaroo.com/i/s11RFCRnDBKq
>Before the Colonel could finish he was cut off by a loud explosion.
>You awake covered in sand and debris.
"Bernhard? Colonel? What-"
>A symphony of explosions follow up.
>Looking through a newfound hole in the wall you watch as the camp get shelled mercilessly.
>A young looking pegasus storms through the door.
>"Colonel! The Saddle Arabians have broken through the lines and are pushing towards-"
>He stares in shock to see only you standing in the room.
>"Where is Colonel Mustang?"
>Before you could answer a groan can be heard behind the desk.
>The explosions stop.
>"I'm *cough* fine. We need to leave, it won't take long for them to reload."
>Wait...where is Bernhard?
>You look at the fallen wall and see him pinned under a large wooden frame.
"Berrny! Berrny are you okay!? Say something!"
>>
>>28524960
>He doesn't move, but you could still feel him breathing.
>With all your might you try to lift the heavy frame but your magic just isn't strong enough.
"Colonel please help!"
>With a heave he lifts it just barely high enough for you to pull him out from under it.
>Just as you pull him out the symphony continued their song of destruction.
>EVERYPONY NEEDS TO MOVE NOW!"
>You gallop straight to your cart and burst into the room dropping Bernhard on the bed.
>Time to get the heck out of...wait.
>You look in horror to see the colt is missing.
>Frantically you tear apart every little crevice in the home to try and find him.
>Another hiatus starts for the 'explosive' band.
>Through the crying of soldiers and nurses one of the cries stands out.
>You run outside and see nearly half the camp is gone.
"Baby, honey where are you?!"
>Turning back to your cart you see him hiding behind one of the wheels.
"Thank Celestia you are alright. We need to go now!"
>"NO!"
>You try to pull him out but to no avail.
"Please honey, if we stay here we-"
>He starts to cry.
>"I-I'm scared! I want my mommy."
>>
>>28524973
>You kneel down to the wheel.
"I know you're scared. Trixie is scared too. But for now Trixie needs you to be brave."
>His crying drops to sobs and he pops his head out to look at you.
>It's been years since you referred to yourself in third-person.
>"Can't we just try and hide?"
"We won't be able to, they'll search every bit of this place until they find us."
"Tri-My friend is very hurt inside. I know this is scary and it may be hard, but can I trust you to watch over him while I get us to safety?"
>"I-I think so.
"Thank you darling. I know things may seem bleak, but everything is going to be alright."
>He comes out more from under your cart.
>"Are you my new mommy?"
"I could never replace your mother. But I will love and protect you as best as I can."
>He hugs your front legs.
>"Then I can try to be brave."
>You pick him up with a hub of your own.
>A barrage of explosions interrupt you two.
"We need to hurry!"
>He rushes inside the cart and you hook yourself into the harness.
>With all your might you pull as hard and as fast you can leaving the camp.

>The heat is intense.
>The only way to Damascolt is back the same road you came here on.
>The sounds of shelling stops but is replaced by screams and yells for help.
>"Hey...HEY! It's you!"
>A pegasus swoops from the sky.
>It was the same one who barged into the Colonels office.
"What are you doing here? What's going on back at the camp? Where's the colonel?"
>Catching his breath you could tell he was still shaken from the artillery.
>"C-col Mustang is m-making a last stand. He gave me orders to secure a safe passage for you to Baghdadam."
"Baghdadam? Why there?"
>"There's a strong Equestrian military presence just outside that city. We also got word that the road to Damascolt is compromised. We need to move before-"

>A torrent of sand and dust hits you both.
>Back where the camp stood all that remains was an ominous cloud of black smoke.
>"W-we need to move before they reorganize."
>You stare back in horror seeing a place that was once a hospital is now just a crater in the ground.
>"You have an extra saddle for that thing?"
"T-trixie has a second saddle."

>That's a bonus about being Trixie.
>Worked all your life to get where you are.
>It's not much, but joy has always found you in one way or another.
>Now you have the magic of a unicorn AND the strength of an Earth pony.
>Well...some strength.
>"*Cough* *Cough*"
"Erm...maybe you should rest. I can pull alone so you can catch your breath."
>"No. *cough* Colonel is counting on me. And I won't let him down."
"Well if you keep at Trixie's pace you'll end up killing yourself. Go inside and rest with Bernhard and the colt."
>"If you don't want me to pull the cart that'll be fine. But I won't rest until I see you and your family safe and sound with our troops."
>He unshackles himself and sets the harness back in the carts underground compartment.
>"I'll keep a lookout atop your cart. Hopefully we aren't being followed."
"Do what you need to, just get some water first, also take off that helmet. No wonder you're so tired. Wearing all that heavy armor in this heat."
>"Alright alright."
>His voice had the tone of an annoyed teenager responding to a scolding.
>"It is kinda hard to see with this thing over my head."

>Things started going well.
>Bernhard woke up, his back and front left legs still in pain from being crushed. Thankfully they weren't broken.
>The colt was awake too and a little more calm now.
>Bernhard sat with him on the front steps while you continued to pull.

>Thankfully he cuts many of the gory scenes.
>You couldn't sleep for a week after he described how him and his brother gutted a dragon raider.

>Right as Bernhard said that the small cloud changed it's course.
>It was now making a B line straight towards your group.
>As the cloud gets closer you can tell that something is inside of it.
>A shape bursts through the front of it but falls back inside.

>"Take the kid and get inside Ma'am! Hurry before they see you!"
>Just as you get settled in the cloud hits the cart.
>Trinkets and clothing fly off their respected shelves.
>It felt as if it was being rammed by a Yak.
>The shaking stops.
>Peeking outside you can spot two large ponies.
>Faces hidden by hijabs.
>Large swords hang from their thawbs.
>A voice comes from the other side of the cart.
>There must be more outside surrounding you.
>"What a peculiar cart. Doesn't seem like a military transport."
>That accent.
>He sounds as if he's an Equestrian.
>Bernhard speaks up.
>"It's my cart! I'm a singer. I do shows for the troops."
>"A singer? It's been a while since me and my friends heard a good song. Why don't you sing for us?"
>"Maybe another time, me and my companion really must be going."
>"Listen, we are just looking for somepony important to our boss. A small colt actually."
>"A c-colt? W-why?"
>"You sound as if you have seen him? Maybe even...have him."
>You can't see it but you know by the tone he has a grin on his face.
>A young yet assertive voice rings out.
>"These ponies are under the protection of the Equestrian Civil Service Detail! Leave now and charges won't be raiAKKK!"
>You almost jump at the loud thud of something hitting the roof.
>The pegasus body falls past your window leaving a small blood stain obscuring your vision.
>"Leave him. The vultures deserve a meal. *Ahem* Now that your 'pet' is gone we can talk more...comfortably."

>"Okay. Okay...I'll accept your surrender if the dessert-donkey who slashed my eyes will step forward and apolo-"
>A large blade bursts through the door with blood covering every inch of it.
>As it's pulled out the weight on the door subsides and a stream of light shines through the hole.
>"Don't bother burying him either. Let this killer become dung to the scavengers."

Berny NOOOOOO!!!

I am very unimaginative when it comes to names. So can you guys help me?
What name would you all like the colt to be called?
>>
>>28550738
I'm going to sleep. When I wake up I hope you guys decided on an appropriate name.
See you all tomorrow.

Lotus Light

I don't actually read your green I just wait for thingfag to come back. I don't even know the context.

Long story short:
>That feel when gf
And between that, classes, and looking into grad schools, I've had a busy week

(I'll be writing off and on tonight and tomorrow. This upcoming week I should have several nights free to update)

>>28546913
I lurk the occasional thread when it comes up, but don't contribute.
>Things are for burning, not cuddling

(The name is from a JC's The Thing crossover from last summer that I haven't looked at since I finished. If I did take a look at now, I'd probably hate myself (Switched writing format halfway through to play style >X: "..." dialogue, rushed certain things, took too long on others, was too shallow on certain characterizations, and other little grievances). But I let it stand as my first foray into creative writing, monument to all my sins, et cetera.)
>>

What a coincidence! I am writing a Thingpone story and it is my first attempt ever at fiction or creative writing. The chapters near the beginning are a little bad but I think I'm improving handily as the chapters progress.

So how do you feel about this recent change to 4chan?

I feel we may be upon the end of times.

4chan Pass user since December 2012.
>>
>>28551129
I've been out of the loop recently, what's been changed? (aside from general cancer of course)
>>28551119
Neat. The biggest pointer I'd give is to just keep at it until you find your particular style. Once you find your particular strengths (Characterization, dialogue, descriptions, et cetera), then writing specifically around those strengths could help a lot to make the story as a whole more enjoyable. Early on trial and error is a very good thing.

There's this little green thing attached to my post now that I can turn on and off at will because I have 4chan Gold.

There's also a secret board for pass users only.

4chan Pass user since December 2012.

eh, no opinion really. It's kind of neat I guess.

Have fun in the secret club

It's terrible and it means we're all going to die and the end of the world is coming.

When /mlp/ dies that will signal the world is coming to an end.

Here's a list of names and surnames. Just choose the Egypt, Turkish, or Moor tab to get the Middle Eastern names since the colt IS Arabian.
>>
>>28554284
I actually used the Holy Roman Empire section long time ago to give Bernard and Ulrich their names.

I'll still wait to see what names you guys come up with. That way it's a little more interactive.

Truthfully Lotus Light sounds really good.

That's a strange name, but I'll put a note on it just in case.
