Something I just noticed re-reading that fuckawesome finale.

When Chrysalis went god-mode, she got a complex and thought herself literally a god, and was about to smite all things that displeased her.

When Chitty got it, she thought herself above gods, and above the need to do anything else but get up there and kick the ass of every one of said gods, thinking everything else was pointless.

Both times they lost their sanity briefly, and had to be brought back to earth before the burnout happened.

When it happened to 42, she stayed sane the whole way through, never got a big head, and never lost her planning ability or her drive and desire to protect.

Interesting.

That's because Queens needed to have an unbreakable desire to succeed and conquer, whereas drones were indoctrinated not to think and just act in the best interest of their Queen.

If a Queen showed weakness or lacked, she was killed by her peers or sometimes even by a hidden female. If a drone lacks ambition, it means it gets to love longer.

They are all three just acting to ancient old instincts. None is better, because they are all lacking. Thats the crux of the current Changeling generation.

The oldest princess would have found his cold tone concerning her own heart wasn't flipping over in her chest, and her own thoughts didn't turn towards the idea of retribution and revenge. The stallion riding her tried to be calm, he didn't tug on her heart that hard, but the anger in his voice was almost as intense as the fear.

It was doing little to help the changeling riding the lavender pony some distance behind them, an intentional move to keep them out of the line of fire should something happen.

'Shiny, just stay calm!'

Lying in front of his daughter was just another sin that he would have to add to the pile.

Already, all three saw waves of destruction in their mind, a city laid to waste by the massive hooves that had done the same to Canterlot not once but twice before. They could already see the smoke in their mind, even if they could not in the distance.

None of them, not a one, hoped for the best.

Why there were four massive, perfectly circular indents surrounding the Empire, each one as large as the city itself, was a question that would need answering, but not right now.

Now, they had a much more important thing that needed answering.

Their presence must have finally been noticed, those down below must have finally spotted them in the cold sky, the shield shimmered as a pegasus crystal pony rushed up to meet them.

When he came close enough they could see through the eternal blizzard, the small hope they had been building was left cold as the flakes falling all around them.

One look at his face told them, everything was not okay.

Everyone was not okay.

Sunset Shimmer was much too happy for the circumstances.

The only other occupant in the hovering ship they traveled on did not share her enthusiasms. If she could, Chitania would have punched her face in. All that stopped her was the fact she felt more dead than alive at present. As it was, she had to settle for glaring at her with as much annoyance as she could muster before her back returned to the soft cushion of the couch she rested on. It barely fit in the ship's room, but it was a comfort she wouldn't give away for all the gold in the world right now.

"You said, to someone who can't even move right now. If this is perfect to you, I'm starting to doubt this partnership."

The pony scoffed, flippant as she waved off any concerns with a twitch of her hoof.

>Okay, fine, there were some hiccups on your part-

"Because it took you too long to actually finish."

>-but the important thing is, we succeed!

A steel case, perfectly square and larger than the pony's entire head, floated up and sparkled with pride.

The pony's eyes rolled, her magic flicking a few switches on the ship before spinning around to face her directly, a new magical grip taking over flying the thing.

Chitania hissed, holding back the pain when the pony did little more than touch her. The slight contact was already more than she could take.

Smoothly, the pony climbed up the side of the couch, careful never to put even a single hoof of weight onto the prone and confused Titan, who followed her with a craned, aching neck as she shuffled towards the base of the cushion. A delicate hoof brushed her chest, and at her confusion Sunset gave a winning smirk.

>Don't give me that, you need to feel better, so I guess I'll give you a little love.

Trusting anything spoken in that way proved difficult. But as she was, no matter how odd it seemed, the hunger inside made sure she would not deny it.

Something about the love that she felt seemed off. It sated her, filled her, repaired the damage, but the flavor was one she couldn't place. She would have felt uneasy, had the repairing sensation not been so wonderful.

The words were getting harder to focus on, and the changeling cared about them less and less. When her head fell back, her soft mane with luster slowly returning as it cushioned her in it's wild embrace, she had tuned it all out, and only focused on her body feeling better.

I have a crazy ass theory.

Sunset grabbed hold of the orb when she took it, she didn't use magic, which means she went in direct contact with it, and we know what that normally does.

It's possible there's some lingering magical effects that reflect in her emotions, specifically her feelings of happiness and love, and what's there is going to be a sign of something more sinister inside the orb.

Broke a lot of the castle, with... bodies. Lots of bodies. As a result, we're now down half of the guard, roughly. Technically a little more than that, but who's counting?... Besides Crumbles, I guess, he counted that and that's where I got this figure from. So! Guards, not in the best of shape, numbers wise.

He would find a collar to bury too, just to fuck with future historians.

Does our AJ really seem like the type to need huge fight scenes all the time? From the way it looks to me, each character has their niche, what helps them expand. Some need battles and to get their ass kicked constantly to grow, and others don't. AJ falls into the latter, obviously. She's not going to beat Equestria into a better place. She needs something else beyond action scenes.

I enjoy her moments where she's helping others, being the straight mare to all this crazy, and when she's messin' up and learnin' from those mess-ups.

There can be plenty of tension in no matter what we do depending on how we write it, so I'm not quite sure what you mean there. We've made mundane conversations real heart-stoppers in the past so there can certainly be tension and drama. I remember that chess battle with Caddy and Twi, while it wasn't canon it was still tense as fuck.

Tension and drama don't always have to come with throwing a punch, it's just the most easiest path to take, like seriously. Plus, it's not very princess-like or a thing that someone of alicorn status should resort to all the time.

If you write it boring, then it'll be boring, but if you put twists on it, like we do with our fights, then those other moments can be just as thrilling.

To you. I don't particularly find them boring, she's the most interesting character to me with her internal conflicts and struggles to balance everything knowing damn well she can't while still trying her hardest even when other things, like her sister, fall to the wayside. Although her being that way to you would primarily be our fault. It's not like we don't always throw up ideas for what we can do next with her. We just don't do it.

Like her powers, God knows we could have done something with that forever ago. Like with the orb. And with some other things. We tend to drag feet a lot.

She has that syndrome because we don't wanna push her boundaries, while we also forget that we can just label it CD and get some consensus thoughts, like we don't have a dedicated readership that won't point out where we fuck up at or what works or what just needs fine tuning.

We're just hesitant as fuck about AJ, and Chrysalis was virtually a blank sheet that we were able to just experiment the hell out of which of course will lead to "muh developement". We basically made her, AJ was already made and we find it hard to make her anything else through trial and error.

I'm going to disagree with this, and I hate to bring it up too often, but Apple crazy.

In that she was near invincible, she rarely if ever actually got hit, there was no stakes at the start of it. She was just feeling sad, and needed a way to do her job and fix things.

Everything interesting about it was internal. The idea that she might slip herself into something that was less like the princess we know was what made every situation tense. There was a threat she was going to do something regrettable it with the best of intentions. The battle was interesting, but only in how it showed what extent she was going to go to with the best of intentions. And the entire basis wasn't a battle, it was her trying to be a better princess that everybody could believe in.

And then we have the delegates, who offered a threat or something, but no direct action, and the situation was tense. It was more about learning to work together with the previous info to better fix the world then it was about action.

Action set-pieces are fine, they actually managed to make already good situation better sometime to add an interesting twist and an interesting bit of ideals to show what how far each character is going to go to get what they want. But action alone is Hollow, it's the stakes that you put behind it for the characters, not just what they might lose or what they might fight, that makes it interesting.

It may have been unnatural in every sense of the word to be this high up, but that didn’t stop the Princess of Paperwork from enjoying the breeze whipping past as she soared through the air, taking care to remain below the clouds. She wasn’t looking to reenact a scene from Derpy’s book.

Twice, as she began to descend, her hat tried to escape but a quick hoof kept it clamped against her mane until she touched down on the sandy shores of a so well-known beach.

Her wings gave an appreciative yet wholly involuntary flutter, as though expressing their gratitude at finally finding use again, and she smirked.

>Well, not accountin’ for the two times y’all folded up and sent me careenin’ to mah’ death, not bad, not bad at all… Now then, to the business.

The ‘business’ took her further down the shore and onto a rather rickety pier, where each of her hooffalls caused a less than comfortable groan to spread throughout the foundation. Were it not for the ever ready wings at her back, the princess might have felt a shred of dread.

Now at the very end and craning her head over the edge, Applejack cleared her throat and glanced about the turbulent waters below. Even with her Alicorn’d sight, she couldn’t make out a danged thing.

The surface of the ocean offered a great heave, the water tension breaking with a frothy explosion—and up it rose.

Tall, monolithic, casting Applejack and the pier she stood on in complete, unescapable shadow, the creature from all that deepness rose up, waterfalls of crushing ocean trickling off its massive form.

Contrary to this things sun-deflecting size, the voice that met AJ’s ears, that unnaturally soft and nurturing tone, it went against everything one might gather from that terrifying first-glance basis.

There was no doubt in AJ’s mind what this thing meant by ‘extinction’, namely the erasing of ponies off the face of Equestria, and while that may have been seen by most as a threat, even her, AJ knew full-well that mothers were all predatory at heart.

She was fiddling with something in her saddlebag, completely forgetting that she could have just magicked out what she needed.

The sight of that little orange mare extending a rolled up piece of parchment towards that colossal creature before her was almost comical.

Even though the creature refrained from speaking, it began to slowly sink back into those impossibly deep waters, sending wave after wave of ocean crashing in all directions.

“…Thank you.”

AJ’s left ear prickled, managing to pick out those two all-important words amidst the sound of a thrashing sea.

She tipped her now thoroughly drenched Stetson in response.

I learned something new about the wiki. PNG's don't work well. Finally fixed the Big Picture of Madness in the wiki by turning it into a jpg. It's been bugging me since I first uploaded the png version.

There's the egomaniac who is a stealth-bro who hangs out with the most diverse cast int he series.

Instead of having the pomp and circumstance about coming back into a real body of flesh and blood and all the sensations with it, make a story about creating a wholly artificial one, so that when it awakens it's a complete inversion of what happened to sunset, and would be a wholly unique thing.

Sunset's surgery was all about the balance between her dead body and figuring out a way to bring her back to a real body, if we brought Sombra back into a real body it would just be the same thing but weaker thematically, emotionally, impact wise and tension wise, but if he's building one he knows is wholly artificial then it's a completely unique story we haven 't seen yet, because it's all about the creation.

It would be like making a story about an android VS someone getting heart surgery, two different things.

I was thinking him becoming something between what he is now and a normal fleshbag.
I have this vague idea of him 'not being fully here'.
Being able to walk, but sinking throu the floor when surprised or physically hit.
Being able to eat, but food having no taste or not stating his hunger.
Being able to touch, but felling constant cold no matter how close to the fire he comes.

It would bring him a bit closer to being alive, but because of him being at 'in-between' phase. it would come with its own plethora of negatives.
That would let him do things he couldn't do in his previous form, but still give him a goat to aim for, to fully become a pony of flesh and blood.

Alright, shooting an ultimatum right back, I'll do a more rounded story about it, but there's two caveats. One, obviously not going to be as short as what he just said. Two, and I have to disclose this, I have... Preferences for character I write, and they aren't in the empire. So, if I did write this, it would include them. I won't reveal who, but all that matters is the transformation would not happen in the empire.

If you're OK with both of those, I'll take it on and try to do something a little more exciting with it.

It's /pa/. So long as it's well developed, entertaining and fun, we let stuff drag out sometimes.

That's more worrying.

Not the 'not in the Empire' part, lord knows they get enough stories we're not going to go into shock if one of the Empire Three don't appear in at least one major event, but any characters who joined in means they have to be important to SOMBRA. He has very little connections or interactions with non-Empire characters, so anyone you teamed up with him for his biggest moment need to be someone who would resonate with the story, emotionally. Just saying, sticking JJ and Actarius or Blueblood in there, or even someone like Rainbow Dash, probably wouldn't hit as hard for an emotional moment.

THAT SAID, so long as they fit in some way and at least know who the hell Sombra is, what he's done and have at least met the guy once, it can work for the story. The ghostbusters just got together because they were all running from Chitania after all, so long as there's a connecting theme we can get gold.

HOWEVER, one final thing, and this is NOT a disqualifier I want to insist with all I can insistify, have you ever done a major arc before? Not saying you can't, not saying you shouldn't try, and not saying it wouldn't be great if you finally made the dive and don't be intimidated, it would just help.

It can't be fun to branch out sometimes, and work with characters you never have before. Just because they are what you know, it doesn't mean thats what you have to stick with.

The characters make sense why they would be included, they fit the overall theme, and they would add to it, that's all I'll say.
