It has come to my attention that the majority of anons on this board are unaware or ignorant of the spoiler tag feature /mlp/ has. Ive seen them used as a means to hide fetish discussion, hide redirect links, and probably the dumbest use imaginable: as a pretend private messaging system. How fucking brain damaged does one have to be to use them like that? Anyway Im here today to remind some of you less mentally capable about the proper use of spoiler tags. When you want to post about future episodes, be it synopsi, trailers, or discussion of leaked episodes, please remember to have a shred of courtesy for those that wish to keep themselves in the dark about future episode details by using spoiler tags. Lets have a demonstration.

How does one even format your post to use these tags? Ill show you. Append the word spoiler in brackets [ ] to the beginning of your sentence. Append /spoiler in brackets [ ] to the end of your sentence. If youre not a lowly mobile posting bottomfeeder, and use a desktop like a normal human being, you can highlight the text you want to tag and press ctrl s to add the tags automatically. There's even a tickbox on the post form to hide spoiler images! And no, its purpose is not for hiding porn.
Thats all I have to say. Please think twice about your posting habits and how you use the spoiler tag feature.

Spoiler tags are used outside of the context of actual show spoilers because 4chan is not a serious place and hiding part of a sentence can be useful for certain jokes. Also because 4chan is a highly judgmental place and putting a line of text in spoiler tags can show a degree of hesitance, indicating that one knows the statement being made might not be well received.
When an actual spoiler for the show is being posted, there is usually a warning before the spoilered text to indicate that it is being used for its intended purpose.

I think it is a special character that has to be used so it actually spoilers it because it messes with the code so the spoiler fails always, unless of course you know that secret character.
