I have this baseless belief that any pony could use magic, the catch is that need something like a wand to concentrate on. This works intuitively for unicorns because they have a horn that they can focus magical energy upon. An earth pony or pegasus pony could cast spells if they held a wand in their mouth, I just don't think they've ever tried.

I believe that if I came to Equestria, as a human, that I could learn about magic from books and cast spells by extending a finger and concentrating upon it.

Here's an interesting one.
Ponies can live to to be hundreds of years old and age extremely slow.

In Winter Wrap Up, Twilight mentions that Ponyville was founded by Earth ponies hundreds of years ago.
In Family Appreciation Day, this turns out to be true, and Ponyville was founded by the Apple Family. Granny Smith specifically,
Unless this was an oversight, the only way she could live that long is if she was hundreds of years old.

The reason why I say they age extremely slow is that after 5 years, the Cake twins at Sugarcube Corner still look the same. This is also shown by Sunset Shimmer being a full grown mare at the time she left through the mirror in 'The Fall of Sunset Shimmer" comic, while Twilight was just a filly.
