Thanks! I went through a lot of styles throughout my PMVs, it depends what kind of song I am doing, really.
I make reviews on YT but struck gold recently when I did a let's play of a pony game that quickly became my most viewed video and is still climbing well above a million views. Been thinking of playing other pony shit to try and capitalise on that, any ideas? Preferably not shit that's been done half a million times before like LoE.

After a thread on video games previously this week, I started prototyping a bootleg-MLP version of Pokémon Go for Android.
Still not sure of how I will justify ponies in earth AND punching each others, but I'm not a writefag so the setting will probably be a weak point.
Quick survey : what would the game need to have that would make you consider spending some shekels in a cash shop, and what would you buy ?No, >rape won't be an option.
>>28307324
why no pants?
>>28307344
>implying the setting will even matter
It's just PoE man, you don't have to go into depth. Keep it simple.
Just a wide array of ponies would do for me, but remember, try to keep it simple
>>28307348
>why no pants
>because nobody would wear pants if they didn't have to
>>28307428
very good point.
>>28307344
Consider allowing accessories to be bough, how many people would pay to see marshmallows in pajamas? How many would pay to see fluttershy in glasses, not to mention if you have a heart meter and could have stronger pones based on you high lvl they are and how high the meter is
There is a missive amount of room for you to improve on, let your imagination run wild anon
>>28307344
That's a pretty good idea. If I was a fucking investor, and if it was legal, I would totally crowdfund this to happen.
Godspeed anon.
>>28307534
For the legal part, I'm hoping that randomly generated ponies, different art-style (3d anyway) and removing MLP-specific names (Equestria, etc ...) will be enough to kill any C&D. I will probably need to take a deeper look at how close I can legally be from MLP without having Hasbro in position to sue me. Can't stray too far away either or the fandom will tag it "not pony enough" like what happened to Fighting Is Magic.
>>28307458
Will do. Clothing, accessories and dye. Don't think I will tie them to any meter that would have a strong impact in-game, to keep them a purely aesthetic choice.
>>28307386
Would randomly generated ponies with a wide variety of perks / quirks be good enough, or would prefer much less of them, but handcrafted ?
I was planning to have a small "story" with a handful of OCs (basically a disguised tutorial unlocking features slowly while you level up), and having any non-story encounters be randomized.
>>28307344
I had a similar idea for a game like that, but I develop mostly for desktop and not mobile. I say go for it. It would give people something to do while they wait for the next panel at cons. Just dont make the mechanics as stale as go. Add your own little twist to it and not just find, catch, repeat.
Maybe I felt this way because I never really got into Pokemon so only knowing 4 of the characters ruined the vibe for me.
>>28307843
>inb4 you can battle n shit
I joined the game 3 weeks after it came out so I never was able to have a fair match battling for a gym. It felt like either play from the start order to have any fun

Working on Everfree Outpost
Last month:
> Added support for tools made from different materials (stone, copper, iron)
> Added separate Furnace and Anvil for crafting metal items
> Rewrote movement code to reduce lag
> Changed lighting calculations to make everything look nicer at night
Currently working on sprites for some new forest obstacles (sapling, bush, tall grass, fallen log, mossy rock). After that I plan to adjust terrain generation to place large and small obstacles separately, using the small ones to fill in the gaps between the large ones. The main inspiration here is the way the overgrown farm looks at the start of Stardew Valley, or the way the denser parts of SDV's forest look.
>>28307271
Got screenshots or anything? I don't think I've seen any in-game images, just that one pixel-art house ages ago.
>>28307713
>I will probably need to take a deeper look at how close I can legally be from MLP without having Hasbro in position to sue me.
As I understand it, the main thing to worry about is trademarks. With anything else, even if they could in theory sue you over it and win, it probably won't be worth the legal fees and bad PR ("Hasbro sues one of their own fans, what a bunch of scumbags!"). But because of the way trademark law is set up, Hasbro's lawyers are pretty much required to send you a C&D if they see you using any trademarks.
Last I looked, it seemed like they had trademarked all the major character names, but they didn't have trademarks for the names of the locations in the show. If there's something in particular you want to check, you can run a trademark search on http://www.uspto.gov/ (US Patent & Trademark Office).

pic related is the style i have after drawing quickly a shit ton.
>>28310576
of course this is one of my quick draws, i did this in i think was 14 seconds.
I've made a few pony YTPs in the past but they're pretty cringeworthy. Hell, I think it's been 3 years since I made a YTP.I also did clop for a while but haven't drawn anything for over a month
>>28310487
>>28310576
I'm still a beginner, but from my understanding, you don't develop a style by just "drawing fast." You first need to understand realism, and then you can kind of "mold" it by exaggerating, minimizing, simplifying, or detailing features under certain boundaries.
>>28310630

Shame most of the RPG Maker horse games are god awful, and usually not in a good way.
>>28310576
I'll give it a shot.
Writefag, ran a few CYOAs, never finished a single pony story. Dabbled in clop a bit but besides a few greens never finished anything. Also ran a few PnP campaigns but again they died before their conclusion
Again, besides the short greens I've never completed a project. Most die in the idea phase. I think my problem is that I need someone to bounce ideas off of because of my low self esteem causes me to doubt and mull over it until I have no confidence in the idea anymore.

I am still shitty at art but I do it anyway
>>28310642
from a creative type, this makes no sense- most creatives just 'make their art different' without pulling a twilight and understanding the fundamentals of pony.
it makes sense to an introvert analitical type that the only way to get good at art is to deeply research and understand the fundamentals. but to a creative it just confuses and boggles why you would have to look into something as retarded as studying art.
>>28307713
If you're willing to go big with it, partnering with Hasbro might not be a bad idea. This has a lot of potential IMO. Though the fighting would probably be an obstacle...
>>28306562
Not reporting in just yet, gotta make a grand entrance.
Codename: Castle will be operational soon. Over and out.
>>28310798
The fundamentals are important, and they're studied for a good fucking reason. They're pretty much the reason things look "good."
Of course you don't need to follow them all the time, but it's important to know that, usually, if you want to break the rules, you should understand them first. Otherwise you'll just get a mess. Perhaps you'll get lucky and it'll be a good kind of mess, but I doubt it.
To me it really just seems like you're a lazy shit and don't want to learn how2art. If you wanna make your art look different, then go for it, no one's stopping you, but I'm sure the results would be better if you just had a basis and molded that, rather than randomly threw shit around.
By the way, you don't need to "pull a Twilight" to understand the fundamentals.Just put a bit of fucking effort.
>>28310904
don't get triggered, mate- i'm just saying creative people don't get why you need to do that. me included. a lot of artists that do really well simply don't understand why this is neccesary.
i did pic related through practice drawing. not through studying- i get a lot of people have to do this. which is fine, it wouldn't be a thing.
now your post.
if you don't understand or rebut the other side before stating your argument it undermines the point you're trying to convey when you dont place any evidence and rely on an ethos that doesn't exist, you need to have examples, not opinions, this is not a place you can convince someone of something by restating your thesis and insulting them. which should be your goal- convincing me that to be a good artist i must do research into art theory, but you are not going to insult anyone by trying to get into a cock measuring contest.
i would win based solely on the fact that i have evidence, both in my personal experience and though the people around me's experience.
>>28310939
One thing I probably should've clarified is that I think the best way to get better at art is by finding a middle ground between practice and study. Just thought I'd mention it.
Anyways, have this, then, I suppose. I did pic related through study and practice. I think a vector would showcase my understanding of fundamentals a bit better, but that'd take too long.
I'm sure if you ask a multitude of other artists they'll all tell you the same shit I do, though: Study art. It's good to understand the fundamentals.
Perhaps studying is not a necessity, but it certainly might help you get better results faster.
>>28311082
thats fair. to add, most the artists i know got through the learning curve by looking at other peoples art and working accordingly.
for example, i would have- in my early days of learning to draw would try to figure out what goes into making that semen look like that, what brushes, how did they layer it. plus real life- chances are creatives do go to a middle ground, and you probably could draw parallels to a lot of the things we look at. just different styles of learning, which is fine.
did we literally just go through the plot of Testing... Testing... 1, 2, 3?
Does any one else make their work based upon their bad emotions when they're sad and feel like killing themselves?

Adobe once again fucked up and completely ignored my intro. So it starts a little wonky. But a deadline is a deadline.
I don't expect a lot of views from this one. Pony music is still on the down. Not to mention these aren't incredible over the top videos like many other producers make, but I still enjoy doing it. Criticism welcome, but just know I don't always take my work seriously.
>>28313733
Gotta thank you man, playing pony songs helps maintain my meager piano skills when I'm not motivated to learn anything more complex. Though I'm mostly interested in the sheets, so I guess the transcriber deserves as much gratitude

How did I get good at thing if I can't ever follow a project through to completion?
>>28315107
>How did I get good at thing if I can't ever follow a project through to completion?
Start small and grow from there. What my professors taught me about programming is that if it's like learning an instrument you can't sit some beginner down in front of a piano and tell them to play Beethoven's Fifth.
Programming was never my forte, but I learned enough of it to run a production team without having to code anything myself. Rather I oversee things now.
Perhaps the reason you can never finish anything is because you are more of the managerial type rather than a code monkey. Have you considered IT Project Management? The field might reveal more to you about how you work than you think.
