How the fuck can you judge Shimmer when you haven't seen 2/3s of her screen time? Everyone hated her in EG 1. You were supposed to. She was a manipulative, controlling bitch. But I'm sure there's an Applefag that can both justify and enjoy: Applejack's Day Off, Somepony to Watch Over Me, and Spike at Your Service.

True. I love Apple family episodes and always enjoy them, and don't care for AJ herself. When they interact together, it's normally touching and just nice to see, and when AJ gets her own episodes where her family doesn't matter, they're total trash.

Right now, the one that comes to mind is Good!Starlight. Annoying and useless.

She was an awesome villain but after the otherwise epic s5 finale was ruined by her painfully unbelievable redemption, she's just kinda been... there. I feel the writers don't really have any idea what to do with her. She doesn't seem to have a clear personality, apart from being "awkward" -- and not in an adorable way, but rather a bland, annoying one.

I also don't like her visual design, and her voice is grating.

On a more meta (and hypocritical) level, she's got a pretty crappy role: she's "learning the secrets of friendship". She basically serves as a walking reminder that no, we're not watching an awesome fantasy series -- we're watching a little girls' cartoon where grown individuals need to be taught the basics of social interaction like it's some eldritch lore.
