It was all a dream. Twilight wakes up in her home back in Canterlot from the first episode and Spike is telling her about the Summer Sun celebration in Ponyville. It goes smoothly and Nightmare Moon doesn't show up. Twilight goes crazy trying to find the friends she knew but they were never real.
