Two years ago I'd have hated to see the show end abruptly but now it really wouldn't bother me. Hurts to see something that once I liked to slowly crumble into pieces by shit like new writers making mistakes because they can't be assed to watching old episodes or introducing pointless characters such as starlight glimmer.
If they have to introduce new characters or repeat episodes we already have seen because they ran out of ideas AT LEAST they should have solved the unfinished plot lines or misteries that remain unexplained and inconclusive after half a decade.
But no, let's better fuck everything up because I get paid anyway and I don't care about the quality of the work I held responsibility.

Well they're reusing a lot of animation this season, so the budget must be an issue. They've had three directors, so there must be conflict it at the top making it difficult to lead. Hasbro injects their toys into the show at the expense of the higher level details like theme and characterization, so I can't see a lot of reasons for writers to invest love or passion into their work. Plus, if this really is the last season, it's time for the good staff to move to the next promising-looking studio.

There's probably a lot of reasons for talent to be draining away from MLP.

Imagine you're trying to lead a project and an exec shows up and demands at least five episodes promoting a baby alicorn, or he wants the whole season to promote the gaudy "rainbow power" toy or whatever, or he tells you to kill the tree house and replace it with an ugly play set. Now somehow, regardless of the visions of everyone else in the project, you've got to play ball with this. Hasbro's toy division is like a really shitty "idea man" with veto power over your budget. I don't suspect it's a great atmosphere for talented minds to flourish in.

You'd have to be a genius to make some of this stuff work, especially if your show started off by trying to have some sort of internal consistency, and it did.
