Some say Twilight was tired because of casting all those spells while Starlight was fresh and prepared for everything since she planed everything during the whole season.

I don't like it either but in these last seasons this kind of inconsistencies became rather common.

Alicorn magic apparently makes you really powerful for one specific thing (raising the sun/moon, using friendship/love to solve all your problems) but completely useless for everything else. The only time she's displayed any type of power since ascending is when she had ALL the Alicorn magic. It's why Celestia never does anything and why Twilight is now training Starlight to take over her old role. Alicorn magic is fucking useless.

Being smart or fast or strong is relevant to the people around you, read The Outliers. Great book on how talent is relative and how people who are valedictorian and get scholarships to places like MIT end up going and feeling really stupid and depressed because they are put in rooms and rooms full of thousands of other people just as smart if not smarter than they are despite the fact that they spent their entire lives studying.

Being Smart around dumb people means something.

Being smart around smart people will only make you average, which can really hurt people who spent so long becoming good at anything.

Once you start meeting people on your skill level you don't have the power over others you once thought you possessed over everybody.

Once Twilight starting dealing with other magical prodigies such as Starlight and other next level unicorns/magic wielders she got the Outlier effect and it makes her seem nerfed. When in reality she is just fighting and/or dealing with ponies just as devious as she is.

Think of Skyrim, all that leveling and weapon forging and gold farming, but your only adjusting for the inflation of the next area where the enemies are a higher level with higher loot and items at vendors are more expensive. You are essentially accomplishing nothing if you adjust for inflation. People in MMO's get this Outlier Effect at endgame seeing how many other people got just as far as they did despite having spent thousands of hours grinding for gear, so they go back to lower levels so they get that sense of superiority back.

Starlight's the first regular pony Twilight's ever come across that actually can play magic-wise in her own league. It's not like Twi's magic is a once a century divine gift, she just got discovered while Starlight never really got her potential until much much later given that she has trouble learning spells in the first place, but then can modify them to 11.

Plus Twilight these days still can do insane magic like full out species swaps. So it isn't that she was nerfed, it's more that she's together with magic users that aren't common rabble. Thinking about it, the only ponies we've seen that can even go near Twilight power wise are the Princesses, Moondancer possibly (was implied to be able to use Twi's book spell with training), and Starlight.

There is a small nerf, though. Now, twilight flies everywhere. Before, she would just teleport!
