I love her to death but her hypocrisy in this episode pisses me off. What she did was way worse than what Thorax did. Even worse than what the whole changeling army did. I'm happy that Spike called her out on her shit in his song because she does not deserve to be this judgmental. Especially after Twilight gave her a second chance. She should have been fighting on Thorax's side, not immediately turning on him. She must have learned nothing from her reformation and what went down with Trixie.
I still like her but she was a total bitch in this episode for being such a fucking hypocrite. Why is Spike always the one to bring up her past? It's always him.
Also, venting thread.

I just want to see a good MLP episode again.
>>
>>28216022
Then go back to season 1.
>>
>>28215972
She already know.
Linked because stupid 4MB limit.

That's what I meant when I said Spike called her out on her shit. Before then, she was ready to hang him with the rest of the Empire. Right then, you could see her realizing what shes doing.
Why is it always Spike that reminds her of her past?
>>
>>28216037
We've had good episodes earlier this season, but the streak of bad ones is getting intolerably long. Can we go back to writers with some experience, or at least ones who've watched the whole show and know how to resolve a conflict with some semblance of logic? Is that so much to ask?

We need to make MLP Great Again.
>>
>>28216049
To be fair, she has been consistently hypocritical from her very first episode. In fact, I feel like her being a hypocrite is probably a character trait.

She has to suffer somehow. She can't just expect to live normally after trying to enslave a whole village and trying to end Equestria. In real life she would be on death row.

>at least ones who've watched the whole show
The show has now nearly 130 episodes, and it's more than 40 hours long. No new writer is going to watch the whole show just to write an episode. No hopes left.
>>
>>28216076
It was more of a cult I'd say than enslavement.
>>
>>28216082
Then can we stop changing out the staff all the damned time? It's no surprise that the show is experiencing a drop in consistency when it rotates leadership and staff faster than the Klingon government.
>>
>>28216049
She's never even met a changeling before, she was probably going off of the shit that the rest of them were telling her. OP may hate me but I give her a pass on this one
>>
>>28216076
That's pretty mean of Spike to personally take on the role of reminding Starlight of her past as a punishment. It was pretty epic imo when he sang those lyrics right at her during his song though.
>>28216073
Where else has she been hypocritical?
>>
>>28216104
But she should have been more sympathetic and willing to give him a second chance like she was given and like she gave Trixie. I would've thought she would be on Thorax's side since shes been through the same shit.

Yeah, and she realized she was being a cunt and ponies make mistakes? Again, she had no experience with changelings and Spike had also previously agreed with Sunburst who immediately jumped the gun.

So Spike himself had actually validated that claim earlier.

This is a problem with most cartoons, especially those that rely on outsourcing their writing.

The showrunner and lead director's one of many jobs are to enforce tone and consistency, but each one causes significant differences as they are changed because Hasbro can't stop fucking around/nobody wants to be on a pony show for six plus seasons without reevaluating their sanity.

Faust didn't have the freedom she wanted, and didn't fully understand that Hasbro just wanted her as a glorified contractor. Rob Renzetti left for Gravity Falls and maybe other reasons. Meghan McCarthy left for a salary head position at Disney. And M.A. Larson left to start his own franchise.

These guys were the ones who cared about a little kids show about magical talking horses. (Yes, Anon. Even Meghan) They gave a shit about a stupid premise for little diva brats and made it good enough for /co/ to take notice, for /b/ to corrupt and spam, and for other brands of autism to latch on like retarded lamprey eels. Not anymore.

At least it hasn't regressed that far yet.

But the staff changes were inevitable.
>>
>>28216127
I'll admit it was pretty cunty to just automatically assume on her part and go gung ho about it, and I love that stupid pink horse, but they were all being huge cunts.

I still don't think it's as bad as the other shit though.
>>
>>28216190
It doesn't matter if she had any experience with changelings at all. She fell to mob mentality and instead of using what she's learned, she decided to be hypocrite. She didn't even listen to Spike and he has been the nicest and most trusting of her since her reformation and he directly saw all the shit with time travel she did. He did a lot of crap and Star betrayed him. She should have at least given the changeling a chance to speak in his defense or considered what Spike was saying. She owes him that and now she owes him even more.
I gotta go to sleep now because it's getting late on the west coast but I must say, you are one of the most civil and intelligent anons I've ever debated with. Thank you for the fun night
>>
>>28215972
Did you pay attention to the song? There is a part where she clearly realizes she's not in position to judge.

Only she and Twilight were convinced by the song.

I think a lot of the problem people have with this episode is that it is a Spike episode and there's a group that you will just not convince of any Spike episode being "worth it."
>>
>>28216264
>I'm happy that Spike called her out on her shit in his song because she does not deserve to be this judgmental
Did you not read my post? That was the moment I was refering to.
>>
>>28216257
Yes, and I also mentioned right above your post that it was a bit shitty for her to go all gung ho about it. Still I think it's pretty minor as far as transgressions go. As far as I'm concerned, she realized she was being shitty and pink horse need not be perfect.

Anyways good night anon, thank you for the debate.
>>
>>28216237
Actually AKR is working for Disney, Meghan is writing the movie. Other than that, this is pretty much accurate.
>>
>>28216277
So what the fuck is your problem? Up until that moment the changling was thought to be an infiltrator, not a repentant defector.

You're entire issue is bullshit.
>>
>>28216237
I just wish we could get someone who loves the show enough to stay.

Well, someone as showrunner. McCarthy's working on the movie now and it's good to know she's still around somewhere.
>>
>>28216268
I was really looking forward to this episode, Spike and all, but it failed to deliver on what its story needed.
>>
>>28216268

Yeah honestly on most other sites im seeing this as one of the most positively recieved episodes of the season so far. Even if they acknowledge the ending was kinda rushed they can accept the vast majority of it was solid.

But /mlp/ just loves getting hung up on little things.
>>
>>28216476

The characterization was good, the concept was good, for the most part the execution was fine. The only glaring flaw was the pacing at the end got rushed, it was a bit too big of a story to perfectly fit into 22 minutes, but that doesn't drag everything else down.
>>
I'm having a mixed feeling about how changelings lore were treated in this episode and can't figure if it was a setting alteration or lore development.

Oh yes, because she had once done something wrong, now she must bend over and immediately accept everyone, regardless of potential danger, yeah?

Just like Germany is doing with the rapefugees, no? :^)
>>
>>28215972
DYEWTS
Hypocrisy for the sake of the plot is in like half the episodes.
>>
>>28216062
What is it with US politicians and squinting their eyes during photo shoots? The camera flash can't be that bad.
>>
>>28215972
>deceives everyone
>>
>>28215972
But everyone was hostile to him, and you can't blame them, it took Spike to convince everyone that this one changeling was good.
>>
>>28215972

She's pretty much been the element of hypocrisy since the first time you see her. I think the fact that she is still deeply flawed in many ways is a good sign from the writers. She was never "reformed", she is just friends with the main cast and is making some effort to become a better person.

even starlight herself realizes how much of a hypocrite she is.
>>
>>28216049
Do you have any idea how real life people react if you tell them what communists did and at the same time tell them what other types of extreme authoritarianism committed? Imagine the surprise in their eyes, when they mentally compare over 110 million gruesome deaths against 12 million by the nazis, and then when the national socialists were that, socialists.
>>
>>28215972

>he doesnt want her to be hypocritical

Thats her last trait as old glimmer, please dont remove it, I love her that way
