The difference is that the MLP fandom at its worst is more of a spectacle, while the SU fandom's worst elements are more mundane, if still heinous. The cringetastic side of the MLP fandom are basically furries, while the loathsome portion of the SU fandom is a bunch of fanatical Tumblr zealots. The MLP fandom gets a bad name because there's grown men fucking pony plushies with Bad Dragon sex toys stuffed in the backside.
