There's no interesting fantasy in EqG, just potato chip power-up "magic." I first started watching Friendship is Magic because it had an interesting setting. That's what made me willing to set aside the whole "little girls' show" thing. Equestria Girls has none of that. Equestria Girls is a high school cartoon series featuring a predominantly female cast that solve the majority of their problems by remembering that it's good to be nice.

Come to think of it, this is kind of why I don't like the main series as much anymore. The series has dropped the magical-ness of the show and its world in favor of further anthropomorphization of Equestria.

Remember when Rainbow Dash manually controlled the weather by flying around Ponyville? The only nod to the whole "the ponies make the weather" we have left is the "weather factory" in Cloudsdale.

The writers for the show these days SUCK at fantasy. Fortunately, they make up for it with A-tier character-comedy. (I'm totally excited for the return of the Cutie Map episodes. It's a super creative plot device that you should all be excited about because it means more episodes in far-away places)

You need to understand that characters change. If the writers kept writing the same plots for the same characters over and over again just to keep the season 1 and 2 feel, then we would have people complaining that it's too stale. No show stays the same for long. All good shows go through changes. Maybe you've just outgrown the show
