I can only hope this Littlest Petshop writer never writes another episode. We've had bad episodes before, but this was the laziest, most empty episode ever. Usually characters at least have their character. This writer somehow erased their character completely. They all served as devices to further the plot, with no explanation for anything. The CMC are girl scouts because girl scouts. RD is pranking because the writer decided she's obsessed with pranks today. Everybody pulls it on her because who the fuck knows. They didn't even flash back to them deciding to set it up.

We know that Dash is a prankster, we know the ponies got upset about the pranks. If they had a "montage" or long ass "exposition" setting up for revenge would there even be suspense? Thing that made it lazy was how predictable it was not necessarily the execution. It would of been a better twist if in fact the joke cookies were tainted.

Fluttershy has become more "assertive" in her time but she still scares like a little filly. I don't think she will grow out of that. Although she has been seen being a bit more brave at times, it usually comes at the moment she is given no other alternative, like helping her friends.

I honestly can't understand how disjointed most of /mlp/ was about this episode. Literally the only thing "bad" about it was Dash's unusual and needlessly mean-spirited pranks. Even then, we've known already that RD is frequently an asshole to others. But it didn't *just* portray her as a cunt: she did return to her friends instead of just flying off when the zomponies came out, and even after "losing" all of her friends to the sickness she still stayed behind to try to stop them from eating more of the cookies. Regardless if it was out of guilt or to ensure the well-being of her friends it was an excellent highlight of her loyalty.

It even avoided the MMDW trapping because the first half of the episode was partly dedicated to her friends trying to talk her out of being a cunt before turning her behavior onto her. I legitimately can't wrap my head around this basic-minded comparison when it's clearly not the same at all outside of similar premises of "Dash acts like a cunt and her friends show her up to change her attitude". MMDW 2.0? Sure, because it was everything MMDW should have been. Even MMDW had at least one redeemable aspect wherein it showcased the depth of Dash's insecurity and how she overcomes it by earning praise.

The actual zombie part of the episode was mostly pretty damn good as well. Excellent and creepy background score to drive the mood, great effort on behalf of most of the VAs for really selling it, and huge kudos to the team for making something like cute ponies genuinely kind of creepy without gore. Some of the voice work and 'dialogue' during the scene fell flat and lacked the same level of intensity, but an otherwise solid effort.

Yeah, she didn't seem scared of the Zombie Ponies, she seemed more afraid of what had happened to her friends.
Her meanest prank in the episode was on Fluttershy though and since it happened at the beginning it sort of set the tone. People went into IT expecting nothing but MMDW so I think that sort of plays into it, but I think revealing it was a prank in the synopses and essentially the previews ruined the zombie part completely really.

People's expectations were tainted, and people went into it expecting MMDW, so even if it was barely similar, they still clung onto that and criticized it as such. Some of the criticisms were completely legit tho, like the Fluttershy prank kinda went against Griffon the Brush Off and a few others. I mean, it wasn't the best episode, but calling it 'the worst episode in the series' like some people did seems a bit harsh.
Also fuck Discovery, ruining half the episode before it came out through previews and shit.

Hurricane Fluttershy was wrote by Cindy Morrow, she was one of my favourite and in my opinion one of the best writers for the show. Her name never got brought up much like the likes of Larson or AKR but I generally love her episodes.

They've been lifelong friends, this Season confirmed just how close they were with how acquainted Rainbow Dash was with Fluttershy's family. Before that it wasn't as clear, we knew they were friends as fillies but not necessarily as close as that. It's a pretty lovely friendship and I'd like more Dash/FS episodes. The focus in the last one was more on Zephyr, though Dash did help support Fluttershy quite a bit.
Dash does love a good prank, but in GtBO she checked on Gilda to make sure she wasn't getting upset and she's far less sensitive than Fluttershy

Good points desu, I still would've liked some more of closure on that front, or maybe a scene where she's contemplating joining in but that's a good spot.
I just had the impression she hated seeing her friends scared no matter what the circumstance, but like you said, given what she's been through in the 5 Seasons, her taking a stand doesn't seem all that odd.
