Emerald wants to defend Ruby, but he can't think of how to do it exactly. Perhaps he should tell the truth on where the letter came from? Maybe just something to stall so that Joyride can arrive?

Emerald takes advantage of the obvious goading to fake being offended, and starts lecturing the stallion about "toxic masculinity" and "gender roles".

At the end of it the two Order members aren't any less amused, and he is sure the female one is trying to hold back laughter. While the whole talk ate up quite a few minutes, there is still no sign of Joyride. He just needs a little more, he thinks.

Emerald thinks he should probably not make any sudden moves around the pony, so reaching up for his snout at the moment is probably out of the question. If he gets the chance though he is going to give him SUCH a booping.

Emerald switches over to asking a bunch of questions. He asks who they are, and who the order is.

"I am Bellator, and this is my sister Praelia." The stallion says, pointing to the large mare beside Ruby, "We are members of the Order of the Arrow. We are tasked with identifying and destroying those who would wish to corrupt us ponies. Most of the time that has to do with dispatching dark magic practitioners and those who dabble in diabolism."

Emerald asks what's so important about that letter, as if he didn't already know.

"Classified, my little friend." Bellator says, taking one of his saucer sized hooves and rubbing him in the head roughly.

Emerald bats away the hoof and says that he doesn't feel like they are taking him very seriously.

"Well, you'd be right." Bellator says with a playful grin.

This is working pretty well. Maybe he should ask some more questions.

Emerald asks about diabolism, and other things that he already knows about but will certainly buy him more time. The two respond, but it's clear that they are starting to get tired of answering Emerald's questions. Eventually they simply turn away from him and begin to start grilling Ruby again, but just as they do Emerald hears a voice from behind him.

"Never fear, Joyride is here!"

Emerald whips around to see the unicorn posing triumphantly behind them.

"Joyride...?" Praelia says, looking at the mare suspiciously.

"Wait. I remember that name and that face. Remember? That poster that Uictoria has?" Bellator says, turning to her sister quickly.

Their demanors change rather fast, and leaning sideways to bite on the jewels near their sides, they both pull out humongous weapons. Weapons that no normal pony, even at their size, should be able to wield.

Bellator has a giant hammer, and Praelia is holding a crossbow akin to one he saw in a book that was used in castle sieges. Both of them brandish their weapons towards Joyride and the mare says,

"Hey, we going to be cool here? Stay still and wait for Uictoria to come. I don't want this to get messy, alright?"

"Uictoria... Uictoria..." Joyride says tapping her chin, "Why do I recognize that name... Well anyway. I don't have much interest in having some boring conversation with the Order. Just let the little ones and the hot mare in the Ponycare robe go and we can all be on our way."

"You know very well that we can't do that." the stallion says as the mare levels her crossbow.

This is all escalating very quickly.

They way I see it is theat since they've seen Joyride and she is asking for our release they will think that all of us are with her. Making Ruby and Hope fugatives. They will likely ignore the letter as well since "evil" Joyride is here. The only way to keep this from getting worse is to get them to lower the weapons and explain everything.

At least that's the only option I can see working.

Emerald yells to let them go, but the Order members ignore him. Getting an idea, he slowly draws his focus out and then blasts the ground near them with a push spell, throwing sand into the air.

At the same time Emerald rushes forward and grabs a coughing Ruby by the foreleg and dashes over to Hope. He then casts a shield spell targeted on the mare and covers them all.

By now the sand has mostly fallen away to reveal Joyride tangling with the two Order of the Arrow.

She doesn't seem to be doing too well. Everytime she tries to cast a spell at them either a bone crushing hammer swipes near her head or she has to dodge out of the way lest a fence pole sized arrow impale her.

Emerald says that they should probably clear away, and as they go to start to move a heavy crossbow bolt clangs against the shield, dizzying Emerald and nearly breaking his concentration.

"You are being detained. You are NOT free to leave." The mare says, before returning her attention to the fight between her brother and the unicorn.

I don't think we have enough stamina/mana to constantly launch spells to them while keeping the shield running.
So we have to choose only one ir two objetives if we want to keep protecting ruby and hope.

So far the order guys haven't used magic and their only way to fight are their weapons, so if we get the weapons out of the way they won't have anything to fight.

I think we sould launch a magic missile to the crossbow to make it jam or break, that way joyride can get away and cast spells easily, we also should keep most of our power to keep the shield up.

There's several ways this battle can go. We can't just have Ruby run away because Praelia over there would just one shot kill her. One thing we could do is have her put on Ponycare robes and put a shield around Praelia to either stop one shot or distract her from taking proper aim while Ruby escapes and draws her away.

Alternatively we can put a shield around Joyride to give her time to think. We might want to warn her so she knows she's going to have a chance to act.

Another option is to cast magic missle on Bellator to stagger him while Joy takes the opportunity to finish him and then focus on Praelia.

My favorite is to cast magic missle on Bellator though the risk is that it leaves Joy open to a hit from Praelia while she deals with Bellator.

So, unless we remember the recipes for some of the goat magic stuff, our best offense is magic missile. We did everything "perfectly" about the plan. We wrote the letter. Handed it off to a disguised Ruby, and then everything we were telling you would happen did. The Order read the letter and immediately started hunting down the sender. Now we have a battle to deal with and for the sake of another paranoid zealous demon hunter who beat up Emerald might have a chance of escape? The intent was to get the Order to breath down the step-parent's neck. That was the award along with the possible rescue of the Squire.

What went wrong was we had Ruby undisguised talking to ponies, we sent the letter too soon, after we left camp we went back, failed to elude them, and asking Joyride for help somehow made things worse.

Simplest way is to create a new layer (I use Photoshop), set the layer the Overlay, and then brush away with the color you want.

If you don't care too much about color accuracy, that's pretty much all you have to do, but it should be noted that this leaves you with a slightly darker shade of the color you used when pasted over the gray. The way I remedy this is I select the inner-most parts of red with the magic wand tool, making sure to have anti-aliasing unchecked so as to not have the edges included (because you want those to be clean), and filling it with the color you actually want. This leaves you with the closest you're going to get in coloring a tricky area with clean lines and an accurate color.

Emerald whispers for Hope and Ruby to run when he drops the shield. When Emerald does this, Ruby takes off like lightning, but Hope stays and says, "I-I can't just leave you here!"

Emerald fires a magic missile at the mare as she raises her crossbow at Ruby and says, "You are being detained, you are not free to-"

Her words are cut short as she grunts, the spell hitting her straight in the face, causing her to stagger like she was punched. The mare angrily levels her crossbow at Emerald, but then Hope steps in the way with a cry of "No!"

"Praelia, I could use some help here!" Bellator barks from beside them.

Joyride seems to have put some distance between herself and the large stallion, and is now firing spells with abandon, causing Bellator to dodge or otherwise gird himself against the spells. He seems to have some sort of small protection from magic. Either that or he just overly tough, as the spells seem to just knock him around.

"This kid attacked me! He knows magic!"

"FIne, you handle the little kid, I'll handle the infamous, ageless criminal."

Praelia curses, and swings the large projectile weapon at Joyride again and begins firing. This gives Bellator the chance to close the gap, and the fight returns to about the way it was before, though with a slightly battered Bellator.

Hope starts to tug on Emerald's foreleg and says, "W-we need to get out of here!"

(Whoops, thought I had posted this about 15 minutes ago.)

Emerald tells Hope to go hide at Joyride's house, pointing in the direction it is.

Emerald then tugs his foreleg out of her firm grip and fires another magic missile at Praelia. This time however it doesn't seem to have much of an effect. It strikes her in the side of one of the legs holding the crossbow, causing her shot to fire very far off it's mark, high and to the left of Joyride.

Praelia swears again and charges angrily at Emerald.

"That's the last time you cast spells on me, little man!"

Emerald fumbles for the knife around his backleg, but before he can get it out Prealia has closed the distance. Much to Emerald's surprise she doesn't throw a punch at him. The last thing Emerald sees before he is knocked unconscious is the crossbow being swung heavily at him.

Emerald sits up, and then holds the side of his aching head, which has been bandaged. The colt looks around to see that he is laying on a couch in Joyride's house. Emerald asks what happened.

"That..." Hope seems to struggle angrily with her words, and then says, " That woman hit you so hard with the crossbow that you went flying a few feet. I thought for sure you were dead. But after she knocked you out she turned back to the fight. I picked you up and ran towards where you had pointed Joyride's house was as fast as I could."

Emerald says he has to get back out there, and gets woozily to his hooves, but just as he does the door flies open and them quickly back shut again as a familiar face enters the domicile.

It's Joyride, and she looks to be a bit of a mess. Her clothes are torn and dirty, and she is sporting a pretty big black eye.

"Whew!" She then looks around while catching her breath and says, "Where's Ruby?"

Exterminatus is for when there are no other alternatives. They won't burn the camp to the ground just because of Joyride. Now if a few heretics let lose a couple of demons inside the camp and they start tearing up the place then they would resort to drastic measures.

Emerald apologizes for causing all this to happen with his letter, explaining why he did it in the process. He then says he'll go find Ruby.

Emerald tries to remember what direction Ruby ran. He thinks it was sort of south, towards the tents but away from the big medical building. Emerald starts there.

It's getting onto night now and the place is even more deserted before. There are barely any fires to light the place up, probably because it would be disastrous if it were to get out of control in such a cramped, flammable place. Though he does see the occasional light from a unicorn horn that illuminates some ponies drinking, or discussing things in hushed voices.

Emerald doesn't even really know where to start. Where would Ruby even go? Would she just hide?

Emerald listens in on one of the nearby conversations, but it doesn't seem to be of anything of great import. They are mostly talking about what sort of work they are going to search for tomorrow, how their families are, and what their plans for the future are.
