It was fun, but I think it's also creepy. Not so long ago, the concept of dakimakuras existing in Equestria would have been completely ridiculous, and now they're canon. I knew someone would link WBB, but I expected the episode when Panda is seen with a real daki ("Hibernation", if I'm not mistaken).

I think this episode is somewhat different, Grizz doesn't "need" to hug the burrito because he feels lonely, he's attached to the burrito because it reminds him of the fireman who saved him long ago. He's just confused and acts weird.

Panda's daki, on the other hand, would be exactly what I meant with "forever alone people". I mean, he isn't very lucky with his dates, so his daki definitely is that "something to hug". But then again, WBB world is (kinda) our world, while Equestria was supposed to be a better world. There are some things that are perfectly fine in a show set in our world, but look out of place when they appear in a show set in a "better" world. In short, pretty much what >>28114333 says.

Equestria was never a "better world" except to nostalgic bronies who bought into a children's show at face value. We've known for a long time that the "real Equestria" as envisioned by the writers is subject to most of the rigours of our own world, and that being a children's show is the only limiting factor there. It was never your utopia.

Unless the existence of cartoon horsepussy is all you need for a utopia, in which case, yes, it's a whirlwind isekai where your dreams come true.

Man, "better" doesn't mean "perfect". In fact, in my opinion the daki definitely isn't one of the biggest issues we've seen, I think AJ not having enough money to pay for Granny Smith's new hip in the THIRD episode was something much worse. So, yeah, it isn't an utopia. But afaik, you can't defeat people with magic beams of friendship in the real world, so the show isn't exactly "realistic" either.

That being said, I admit that "Equestria was supposed to be a better world" was more my opinion than a fact, so it's not a valid reason to claim that dakis shouldn't exist. But in the same way, "another cartoon did the same" still isn't a valid reason to claim that there's nothing wrong with them. Whether better or not, Equestria is a different world, so if some things happen in other worlds, that doesn't mean that the same things should (nor shouldn't) happen in Equestria.
