Imo it garners more attention because EqG is just one movie a year. That and although S6 has had mostly good and solid episodes until now, there hasn't been a lot of potential for big happenings to be hyped about. Previous seasons had the box and the map and CMC cutie marks and Starlight Glimmer, S6 doesn't have a lot going for it in the major stuff department. Although the finale could still surprise, as well as the changeling episode.

Fluttershy is my least favorite pony. Every episode about her is "I'm to shy" "I need to be more assertive" "I'm not shy now!"
And then next episode she goes back to normal. She maybe a small bit less reluctant to talk to strangers if you compare her to episode 1, but very little has changed in her life.

Not really teens, somewhere between tweens and the original demographic. They have a couple more of adult references but hey, so did the first seasons. EG's marketed to tweens and teens while some of the new toys (fanseries) are marketed to all ages.

A big part of the fandom has always wanted MLP:FiM to be more like AT/SU/GF and have 2deep4u lore and dramatic episodes and character conflicts.

And seeing as there's only so much you can do with episodic slice-of-life before things become altogether cliche and repetitive, those wishes have only grown.
