He is happy. I don't know where this "Poor Spike; he's so miserable and everyone hates him" meme comes from, but it really makes me question if any of his fans actually pay attention to the show and don't just like him as a self-insert.

They don't. It's always "Waaah stp giving Spike bad eps!" When in reality he has at max two bad episodes. And then they bring up "Spike abuse", until you realize that Dash has been physically harmed than him, and everyone has had a slapstick moment happen to them in the course of six years.
