To put it in a nutshell: What I like about it is probably the very aspect that turns most people off - it'd be pretty a down-to-earth ship with little potential for drama, just like Twishy. Both are drawn to nature in their own way despite having very different personalities, and while AJ evens out Flutters shyness and insecurity, Flutters can help out AJ with her stubbornness.

I don't agree. Applejacks basic needs are for someone she can depend on and for someone who has a strong hard work ethic because those are the things she values the most.

Fluttershy needs to be supported and allowed to be herself to feel safe in a relationship and needs someone who lets her take things at her own pace.

A relationship between them wouldn't work because Applejack would be pressuring her for things she couldn't provided driving her away.

Fluttershy does well with Rarity because she can put her partners needs first (as Rarity wants someone who is devoted to her) and gently guide people back to earth, Rarity in return is supportive without being aggressive and gives Fluttershy room to be her self.

Twilight also gives Fluttershy space to be herself and enjoys more quiet past times, Fluttershy again can gently help keep Twilight's figurative feet on the ground and shares a passion for learning even if is of a narrower scope.

Fluttershy may not be a high achiever, but she's certainly not lazy. Plus she could help AJ out with her natural talents, e.g. dealing with animals, which is something she does all day long out of enjoyment anyway, so I don't see the work ethic or reliableness being an issue.

In general I can see AJ ships working two ways - either someone who's just as tough as her, challenging her at any given time, or someone who helps her soften up, get less stubborn and relax a little when all the work's done, and Fluttershy would be perfect for that.

It's true that Fluttershy needs to take things at her own pace, but AJ is known to be very protective, so I don't think she'd push her over her limits too fast, but rather help her improve in general in that regard. A relationship between them would work and benefit both of them, but Flutters probably more.
