Writefags' Guild: Monday Blues edition

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Let’s get hypothetical.

You’re a writer who’s been going at it for a bit now. You really enjoy what you do and put your blood, sweat, and tears into each story. One day, you decide to post it in a random thread to get some feedback.

Just one problem: no takers.
You wonder if you should even bother writing; you decide to quit and move on to something else.

If that story applies to you, then hold your horses. If all you wanted was feedback, to improve your writing skills a bit, or maybe just see how others do it, then you’ve come to the right place. There are a few rules, however:

>Posting the story directly in the thread is preferred over a link to Pastebin, FiMFiction, etc.

>One story at a time.

>Don’t be a dick or asshole when reading or critiquing.

>All stories posted within the thread must be pre-written.

This thread’s purpose is to encourage writefags all over /mlp/ to write. We’re laid back here. Post what you want as long as it’s pone related. We’re not all “STOREEEYS ONLY!” We discuss topics such as writing techniques, interesting tropes, and bring forth story ideas. Let’s have fun.

>“How do I cure my writer’s block?”
Magic.
>“FUCK YOU ANSWER THE QUESTION!”
There’s no one way to cure it, but, if you can’t write, you may as well read stories. There’s more to writing than writing; there’s reading too, and that helps. Check some of the links above.
Try the following (keep in mind this won’t work for everyone):
-Figure out when it’s the best time for you to write.
-Fap then write*.
-Write anyway, and allow yourself to write shitty stories. More often than not, the block is the fear of it being bad. That’s what editing is for.
-Seriously, drink coffee. It’s a writer’s best friend.
-Listen to music while writing.

*Unless you’re writing clop, then listen to your boner.

And a polite bump. No dying this time.

So writefriends, how was your weekend?
>>
>>28044321
Good so far. Lots of travel for work. Still writing though!
>>
>>28044351
That's nice, glad to hear it, Rosey
>>
So what's on the writing docket? I'm about to try a prompt and write Anon for the first real time.
>>
>>28044905
There were two or three stories from the last thread that haven't gotten feedback yet. It might take a while before any new stuff is gotten around to.
>>
>>28045371
That's fine. I usually don't ask for critique til I've already posted and it's too late to change anyway.

What's your favorite music for writing?
Be it genre, favorite song, a playlist, anything

Do you try and set the mood for what you're writing with what you're listening to, or do you listen to something that you like to get your creative juices flowing?
>>
>>28049410
I like to set the mood for what I'm writing. Lately, I've been working on a story that's focused on Octavia, so I have a playlist that's full of string instruments just to get a feel.
>>
>>28049410
I usually go with rainfall. It puts me in a meditative state that other writers need liquor for.
>>
Monday, Tuesday, same difference
>>
>>28049410
I rarely listen to music when writing. I get easily distracted, so if I do listen to some piece of music, it has to be something I've heard a thousand times already.
>>
>>28050742
Wat
>>
>>28049410
Anything to drown out extraneous background stuff. Anything from music to podcasts to Netflix. Once I've reduced things to one line of input I can tune it out to concentrate.
>>
>>28052006
>>
How do I salvage a story in which I've inadvertently written Anon in such a way that his whiny, put-upon behaviour now aggravates me without end, meanwhile having also simultaneously shoved said story's head up its own ass with philosophical drivel that seemed like a good idea at the time?

I like to listen to "moment" music but nothing too distracting - if it can help create a sense of feeling for a scene then I find that I can churn words out. Nothing with a lot of lyrics though.

Think of natural sounds, like waves or rainfall, thunderstorms and winds to choir vocals or strings and piano.

That or I can put on a somewhat interesting film in the background.

Sammy Brown woke up in a pool of sweat. He was surprised at this, as he usually slept perfectly fine. More surprising, however, was the soon discovered fact that he was not even in his own bed, or his own room.

Sammy was confused, to say the least. He sat up slowly, feeling a cold breeze through his sweat-soaked shirt and boxers, the only articles of clothing on him. He took in his surroundings, realizing with a feeling of unease that he was in a rather dark cave of some sort. It was decently sized, but there appeared to be no exits or tunnels. Simply, it was a large stone chamber. The only real sources of light were blue crystals growing from the cave walls and floor. They glowed eerily, and hummed with electricity. Sammy shook his head a few times, and pinched himself on the arm.

He continued pinching, until blood began to flow due to his efforts. He stopped pinching, and hung his head. Sammy was even more confused. He dragged himself to his feet, twisting his back in a stretching motion.

"Hello?" Sammy finally yelled into the darkness. The only response was a lonely echo, bouncing through the cave and back into his head. He hung his head again. He stepped forwards twice, as to not be standing in his own sweat, and sat back down.

"This really isn't very good, not at all," Sammy said to himself as he touched a hand to his face. He was sweating, despite the cold. He put his hand back down, tracing a small circle on the floor, again and again, in boredom. Turning his head, Sammy did notice one of these yellow crystals quite close to him. He reached out a courageous finger, and tapped the gem.

He pulled his hand back immediately, as a hefty shock was delivered to his fingertip. He didn't feel like giving an exclamation of pain at the time, but it did hurt. Sammy sucked on his pointer finger to comfort the appendage.

With nothing else to do, Sammy lay down on the stone floor and shut his tearful eyes.

What are the best places for beginner writefags to post?
>>
>>28065534
Any general that you wanna start writing first, but you can come here when you need some critique, in fact, we could recommend various generals to you depending the green you posted.
>>28064563

M8 if this isn't anywhere near pony related, you may as well go straight to >>>/lit/ and find a critique thread.
>>
>>28065534

Its a harsh world out there, man. But generally the best place to post is where your story fits.

Flutterrape has some really nice people, but theirs is an odd niche. A lot of people start there, and branch out once they get a feel for writing.
>>
I have a bunch of old greens from 2014 I never finished. Some of those generals died so I'm wondering if it's even worth finishing them. I have some from pony prison, anon filly, and trap pony I never finished as well. What do writefags
>>
>>28065714
Well, you gotta finish something.
>>
>>28065725
But what if the general is dead?
>>
>>28065734
Finish it for your own sake. That, or write a story for another general that piques you interest.
>>
>>28065714
Post them on /gtpone/ on 6+2 chins
>>
Anyone know why hits on pastebin skyrocket in the first hour or so of posting?
>>
>>28065829
bots.
>>
>>28065749
>Someone uses the word 'piques' when appropriate

The system works!
>>
>>28065829
We just had a discussion about this a couple of threads back.

So, here's the thing, when you first post a pastebin, it's there for a lot of people to see in the "recent post" list. People are posting on pastebin constantly, some people say it's bots, but there's also a mix of nosey people as well
>>
>>28065845
Well I hope those nosey people enjoyed reading about horse pussy
>>
>>28065981
PB counts the views as when someone clicks on the link, it's entirely likely they click, read a line or two and close out the link and keep on looking about

>>28066066
If I got even one normie to get a boner from horse pussy I feel accomplished.

They are a lively chaotic bunch. Also, I think the Anons are trying to turn "Flutterrape" into an actual entity via meme magic.
