After this week's episode I thought it would be a good time to finish reading this series of books, and since I doubt there's that many other Anons on /mlp/ that have read them I thought I'd post it up.
This will have all three of these books in it (hopefully in order since I went by their individual release dates):
Daring Do and the Marked Thief of Marapore
Daring Do and the Eternal Flower
Daring Do and the Forbidden City of Clouds
Other books can be found here:
https://yp1.yayponies.no/book.php
The more recent ones that aren't there I have here in this archive (including these three):

Someone in the Comic #44 storytime thread asked the same thing and since I hadn't read them it spurred me to do so. I finished the first one and am halfway through the second and am liking it so far myself. Seems to be a bit of continuity between the books and nothing bad so far. I've had a nice amount of chuckles along the way too.

Mfw this is the number 2 review
"For older fans, the stories may or may not be somewhat disappointing... It is certainly fun to watch our favorite adventure-pony kick butt, though for a supposed professional, Daring Do often misses simple clues or makes rookie mistakes. There were a number of times that I couldn't help but feel the author missed interesting story opportunities, opting instead for overly simplistic and direct conflict resolution... the lost potential is at times distracting.
I'd like to highlight one particular issue I had with this set: The third book appears to have been cut short. The story (no spoilers) spends a lot of time setting the scene, hinting at potential conflicts and villains, only to suddenly cut the story short in the ending pages. It feels as though that book in particular should have been 50-100% longer, and was cut short due to either time or page count. Daring Do goes from "captured and planning" to "escaped and everything is ok" within *three paragraphs.* That's just ridiculous, not to mention the lost potential of 2-3 villains that were hinted at, but never actually appeared."
Sound like someone?
>>28040404
That's all of it. Hope you enjoyed it /mlp/!
As I usually say for the books here. I really doubt these get the same kind of attention the comics do, so if you like them then please get them if you're able. Hopefully it'll encourage more of the same vein to be made.
Link to the archive with the books again:

How would you rate these books out of 10 /mlp/?
Did you like any of them more than the others?
>>28040435
9/10
Really surprise me.
Would be great that IDW make an adaptation of those books in comics. 4 parts comic person book would be nice
They're book spoilers and spoilered here because of that and I didn't notice it at first, but the books also had these three pictures in them.
>>28040699
This may be a bit better looking.I'm still trying to figure out how to make the best possible images out of this scanner.
>>28040420
Once I finish the books sometime tomorrow after some sleep I'll try and say if his review is accurate or not.
Bumping so this doesn't die before I can read it.
Not bad
>>28040425
Thank you based anon.
>>28040737
Cute.
>>28040420
What if they made the book end abruptly and "unrealistically" on purpose as a set up for Quibble's complaints in the episode? They were thinking that far ahead...
Bump before work. It's taking a while to read these.
>>28040420
Going to chime in, yeah, I think the third book was set up as a cliffhanger book more than anything.
Basically, it looks like the author decided to try and make a meta-plot of sorts for all the books to work towards by creating the ancient council and the 22 sacred objects; as such, it kind of ends on a cliffhanger.
I don't mind this myself, and its not a bad thing. I do have to say though that the count was set up as a villain, having apparently lied about brumby choosing adventure over love and having instead banished brumby without a choice, and being listed as "Malevolent" in the glossary, we never SEE him or interact with him.
The first 2 books are pretty good and have solid plots imo, but the third one comes off as clunky due to being designed to set up future books.
That being said, these are LOADS better than the chapter books for the mane six; like, SERIOUSLY loads better. Maybe its the action focus, but Daring do came off much better than the mane six are presented in their chapter books, the villains seem more threatening and competent, and the action is much better and entertaining. (Specific mention goes to comparing Dash's Chapter book with Braze to these, as Dash's book was explicitly an adventure book, but seemed like it was written for audiences drastically younger than these books).
Book 1: 8/10
Book 2: 8.5/10
Book 3: 6/10
Also, is it just me or are Daring do and Cabelleron totally Tsundere for each other in these books? The author put a few hints of belligerent sexual tension in at points, like cabelleron's commenting on her looking nice in dresses, or their meeting later one.
Honestly, Cabelleron is LOADS better of a villain than Azuihotl; Cabelleron is pretty entertaining and has a nice personality. Azuihotl is basically "Angry retard" and dumb as a bunch of rocks; how the hell he managed to Both GET to the island and avoid being Killed by the dragons is a mystery.
>>28040435
Only read the first one and stop right there. I gonna to buy the whole set of books.
it more comfy to read in a bed
>>28038816
I'm not really a fan of the actual files missing the cover and back pages, as well as the pictures.
Bumping this for other anons to read; once again, thanks OP.
>>28038816

>>28046547
Sorry about that. The digitals of these I got from a separate source, so I wasn't able to make those.
pretty nice
So did these sold? When did they got released?
>>28044705
Cabelleron is barely a villain, which is why his characterization is better.
Cabelleron is a foil to Daring, while Azuihotl is her rival.
Reading through this, it's obvious that Cabelleron and Daring are a lot alike. Hell, it even mentions in the first book that Daring has to fight the urge to steal and sell whatever treasures she finds. You get the feeling that, if things had gone differently, either one could have been the other's partner. Cabelleron has much stronger characterization because he's meant to highlight how much stronger Daring is morally, despite both of them being in the same position. He's not really supposed to be a danger.
Azuihotl, on the other hand, is supposed to be more of a threat. He's not smart, but he is strong, and he's got motivations that put him at odds with Daring, as simple as they are. Sure, they didn't do it as effectively as they could, but you still get the impression that if Daring doesn't stop him, shit'll go down.
On a ranking system, I'd put him above Sombre, below Tirek.
At least, that's how I see it.
Bump before work. Still trying to finish these up, but stuff is getting in the way.
Happy reading, friends.
Is there any reason you couldn't just copy-paste into the thread, or link to a pastebin, or something, anything other than this?
>>28053794
thanks
>>28050999
wasn't it like last year?
>>28055629
I'll be honest and say it's so these get attention. I've done what you described before and also tried attaching it to the end of the comic storytimes after finishing dumping the comic with little results. First chapter book I tried this with, the Lyra and Bon Bon one, was a moderate success, so I've kept that formula up till now.
Books are all on Yayponies otherwise, plus I put the download link in the OP if Anons would rather not wait.
