There isn't much wrong with her now. She was worst in Seasons 3 and 4. I thought she was great in Spice Up Your Life.

Aside from all the usually cited reasons (shorter, MMC, etc.), I think it was the beginning of flanderizing the characters. Too Many Pinkie Pies in particular made me go "Okay, they came up with this episode simply on the basis that Pinkie is known for out-of-control behavior, so they figured making an episode about a whole bunch of her would be CUH-RAZY." They knew the meme status MLP had achieved online was at its max, and after Season 2 ended it was the last of Faust's influence and all up to McCarthy. So they went with what they thought the fandom would want.

I blame Thiessen and Miller more for how shit Princess Spike turned out. Anyone could've wrote that episode, and it would've been garbage either way.
And although What About Discord is a bad episode, I don't find it AS bad as everyone says it is.
Applejack's "Day" Off however, is complete horseshit.
