Spaghetti containment can be easy if you take it to the counter and have it go through like anything else you'd buy. Or just put it in the middle of an order with other things you'd regularly buy like snacks or whatever.

If the cashier says anything about it, I always fall back on something like "yeah my friend's daughter has a birthday coming up" but you can substitute it for whatever major holiday that might be coming up around that time.

Most times they won't care enough to mention it. They might think something, but they'll probably have it forgot about before the end of their shift.
>>
>>27933282
Official stuff is shit. I just ordered a chink plush and picked the package.

By wanting it enough first of all, and not caring about what other people think because if someone blurts out "Why are you buying that??" then they're the problem, not you. Just get your shit and leave, plain and simple. You only need to be in that store for like 10 minutes, no one is going to judge you personally.
>>
>>27933687
THIS
>>
>>27933665
This. If you're really that worried about what people will think about you, then camouflage your purchase in some manner.

Or if it's just too much embarrassment for you to buy things in a store, then buy it online. Either from the store's website or from someone else.

Or just man up and buy it proudly and not care what others think.
>>
Imma share a story.
This was a couple of years ago, I was at a con called Supernova and decided to buy some pone Funko pops. After working up the courage I picked out Derpy and Dr Whooves. As the woman at the counter hands them to me she asks if I read the comics, I register I'm being trolled too late and eek out an "a bit" the bitch laughs at me as I leave aswell.

Was worth it, Derpy and Whoovsie are best couple.
>>

As someone with a fetish that sometimes involves making awkward purchases at retail shops Diapers.

The real secret is, the people working the cash registers don't give a flying fuck what you are buying. They want you to come through, to quickly scan your items, and to get your ass out. They aren't going to ask you why you are buying it, and on the off chance they do, have an excuse like "I'm buying it for my niece's/friend's daughter/younger cousin's birthday" or some shit, and they won't bother you any more.

FFS it's not that hard.

Oh, and have some addendums as well.

Addendum 1: Don't do it at a place you are employed. Your co-workers will more than likely question you about your purchases because you share a common misery.

Addendum 2: Small specialty shops like gamestop, hot topic, etc might also be more likely to question you about stuff like that, and assume its for you. Keep it to your targets, wally worlds, toys-r-us, etc.

Addendum 3: The only people at the big box stores that might give you extra attention are people who are into the same shit as you. So only expect extra attention from horsefuckers and bronies.

Seriously man nobody working retail really cares. As long as you look old enough to be out shopping on your own they'll just assume you are buying it for a niece/sister.
And even if the do realize you're buying it for yourself, they'll either talk about how they've bought similar geeky things or they just won't care and will forget you even exist 10 seconds after you leave.
If you want to buy it just go buy it,It's not a big deal so stop making it one.

If anything it's far more cringeworthy to act like it's a big deal you're buying ponyshit. Seriously, just buy it and get out. Hell retail is so bad you can steal it and no one will care.

I buy pony stuff, and the most I've ever gotten from a cashier was "Do you need a gift receipt?". And if you're that paranoid about whatever the hell the cashier who hates his job thinks of you, just ask for a gift receipt.
>>
>>27938688
Hell, if people are that paranoid, they should just order online and avoid any type of social contact whatsoever. I agree, it's really no big deal and making a fuss over it pretty bad.
>>
>>27938718
But that would be the logical thing to do. Perhaps must of the fandom is just too autistic, or just overly fearful of what people think. But in reality, it's just that most people need to realize that no one gives a shit. My roommates in college never gave a fuck. Maybe they talked about me behind my back considering I was the crazy guy with toys on his desk, but in person no one seemed to look twice. My friends will occasionally give me shit for it but they don't really give a fuck since I don't act like a sperg about it. And my dad's the only one who has ever genuinely questioned me for getting stuff, and even then it's just a typical "What's with all the unicorn stuff?" I can just say "It's nothing really" and he'll go on with his day.

Are there any physical stores selling 4de plushies in Canada?

Depending on the stores, cashiers are expected to make small talk with the customer, or engage them in some way.
>>
>>27939993
This. cashiers Don't WANT to talk the customer about shit, but corporations are basically threatening them every step of the way to talk to the customers are vapid shit or be fired.

When all the customer ACTUALLY wants is to buy their shit and get out; but Corporate has to find SOMETHING to justify their 6 salaries or people start to look at them like they're the wastes of space that they are and think about firing them, so corporate generally thinks "how the fuck can I make our workers lives living hells? That USUALLY has a positive correlation to profits, so lets go with that"
>>
>>27933282
Simple, just walk in, avoid eye contact, cover it up by buying another larger thing, avoid cashiers eye contact, push it to the bottom of the bag, rush home.

You take it and pay for it.
Seriously cashiers couldn't care less about another customer they have to ring up.
>>
>>27933282
You walk in. Grab the toy you want. Go to the register and then you pay for it.

If anyone cares about what some random person they don't even know wants to buy from a store then that person is the one with a problem, not you.

Just be confident in yourself and your hobbies.

Or, if you're too much of a chicken for that then buy stuff online.

I stopped caring about my masculinity long ago, so that probably has something to do with it. I just go in the toy aisle of Target or Toys R Us, get the pony or Equestria Girl of my choosing, check it out, and leave. It's literally not that hard.

If you really care about that "power level" shit or whatever buy them online.

Some people just buy toys for their children. Pretend you are a dad who's buying his daughter a toy. The people working there live from selling products, if they give you a weird look or they make a coment then they are incredibly stupid.

If the cashier gives you any shit just tell their manager.
Retail managers are different from fast food managers, that big store WANTS your money more than the guy whose barely a step above his burgerflipping employees, and if one of there little wageslave bitches is messing with that, they'll do something about it.

Other nerds are the worst, especially Star Wars nerds. I was buying a Spock shirt after Nimoy died and as I was walking out the door some douchebag in line behind me said "two down one to go". I turned to look and it was some 40yo in a brown shirt with a big red Rebel logo. He and his buddy then had a laugh about "live long and prosper".

People won't spend their brain power on judging you, so don't worry about that. Worst case scenario, a brony approaches you and wants you to join his DeviantART group. But it's comforting to have an excuse to fall back on:

I just pretend I'm getting a birthday present for some imaginary little sister(s) or daughter(s), or a joke present for a friend. It's believable, and people who don't know about the Brony phenomenon is probably thinking this anyway.

This, I've worked retail at Target, I never wanted to talk to any of the customers. I just wanted them to buy their shit so I could be occupied with a task for a short period (because having no customers means having nothing to do, which is really fucking boring) then leave without saying anything beyond the standard "Hi, how are you?" and "Have a nice day!" with their shit. I do not remember a single one of them or any of the shit they were buying and for the most part I would have already forgotten all the people I served by the time my shift ended, that is how fucking little a retail cachier cares about what you are buying, they care so little that they won't even fucking remember that you existed in less than 4 hours, hell less than 10 fucking minutes as long as you don't cause any sort of scene.
>>
>>27933282

>one group of friends buys a Twihorse with some weird wings for the hell of it for my birthday, we all have a laugh
>another group of friends does the same the next year
>2 bretty okay plushes now and I didn't even buy them myself

I mean, it's not hard. Just like anyone else would, you walk into the store and pay for what you want. Or you know, act like it's for a friend's birthday. Gag gifts come in much weirder forms.
>>
My strategy involves taking a shower, shaving, getting in a nice outfit, shape my hair and all, and basically go out of my way to do everything I can to not fit into the stereotype of the sleazy nerd. Nothing is easier than buying merch when you're coming from the gym btw. Just make yourself feel good, feel like you're the king of the world and then I can legitimately say that I don't care much what others think.

And if your feel-good strategy involves masturbating to fluttershy, then dressing up in pony shirts and singing the theme song all the way to the store, more power to you really. The guy who gets his confidence by "sperging out" over ponies is still cooler than the guy who sits there too afraid to buy pony merch in my book.

You'd think so, nerds would be less likely to give you shit for liking nerdy things.

Dabbling in the MLP CCG was a real eye opener for me. You're sitting in a store with a couple of guys, playing the pony game, minding your own business, and random people who just finished a game of Magic or what have you come over and make comments like "yo you bronies are super weird" and "nooo way a pony game? wow, why on earth would you do that" and what have you.

And it's like... dude you're in a freaking gaming store partaking in a MTG tournament! I too would have thought that's just about the last place where you'd get "judged" but people do it so blatantly in your face it's funny.

I have the theory that when you're a social outcast as it is, you're desperately looking for ways to be "on top" of what little community you have, exclude people even harder, try to make out "weirdos" even by your weirdo standards. Just look at 4chan having a fit every time you see a pony anywhere.
>>
>>27949604
Your theory is surprisingly true. Lots of people want to feel better about themselves for liking something that not a lot of other people like or is even seen as "nerdy". The ones who rip on other "nerdy" things are insecure about it, the ones who don't care or try to have fun conversation with you about it have just accepted the fact "this is a thing some look down on, but why should I care, I'm having a good time". The last is the mentality everyone should have, but unfortunately a lot of people don't.

This can also be a positive thing in a group of friends though, where you just try to find the weirdest things a fandom can produce and send them over to each other as bants.
I have a friend who watches a ton of anime so I always send him pictures of giant weebs, he does the same with MLP, it's all in good fun
>>
If anyone questions me about it I can point to the military bronies of FOB Equestria on Youtube to show them that even people who are or were in the military watch the show.

Thinking this way will only ensure that a non-autistic cashier rings you up and easily sees through your lies, attire, face and body language that you are actually a robot purchasing a little gurls toy from a show which has been adulterated so much from its original innocence of previous generations that it does almost justify your actions even in the arbitrary values context which you fear, however, this question is then inevitably overshadowed by the realization that the evolution of MLP is a reflection of the violent culture clashes and widespread confusion in the human collective psyche that took root the aftermath of world wars which have not disappeared but only become rote, mechanized and widespread - manifesting in everyday occurrences such as this one at the checkout counter

An emotionless, mechanical transaction of material goods for legal tender is what you desire? I get the sense that most people here want the spirit of the show to be reality (or more like vice versa).. Suppose the ponies in Equestria can see you now buying their dolls not only acting like they are commodities where the purchase (IE, "first date") is not symbolic at all, but acting this way to the live human cashiers as well - do you think they would /want/ to meet you in person? And if they did, do you suppose that would be a friendly or hostile interaction?
