jem was based off some 80's cartoon that some people remember but it wasn't even relevant at the time. mlp has a current successful cartoon with shitloads of merchandising and marketability. jem's major problem was that it didn't know who it was for. was it for the people that grew up with the show? or is it for teenage girls who have literally no interest in it? mlp on the other hand knows who it's major players are. little kids come first, then the bronies, then parents.

I wouldn't count on it; Most of the people who left the fandom tend to have left in angry huffs, and a good portion "grew out of" their love of MLP and have zero interest in it.

I know everyone who I know who left the fandom pretty much disowned ever being a brony. and these were previous hard core bronies.

The vast majority of bronies now are Closet bronies: Bronies who try to keep their love of ponies a secret, I.E., the kind who won't want to be seen in public buying tickets.
As such, The success is going to be mainly reliant on the target audience and its reaction.

People have posted about this movie, people have been talking about it for months now since it was announced. Are you like some kind of high-level slowpoke who somehow only just now found out about this movie that was announced more than a year ago and leaked even earlier than that?

I mean fuck mate, what the hell?

Also the movie will cause a short renaissance in the pony fandom. New fans, old fans returning, for a few months the fandom will blow up again and pony will be on the news again as people talk about the upcoming movie.

Then a few months later things will stabilize, the fandom will rapidly shrink back to something approximately the same size as it is now (maybe a little bigger due to a retaining a few of the new fans) and the mainstream will go back to not talking about it again.

As for how good the movie will be, who the fuck knows, this is the first time Hasbro has done an animation project on this scale completely in-house. It could be great, it could be shit, it could be mediocre. The only thing it needs to NOT be is simply a feature length episode of the show, it will have to be able to distinguish itself as a genuine movie or it will just end up as forgettable (which, for the franchise, is slightly worse than being bad but still better than being absolutely horrible). Basically, something enormously epic needs to happen in the movie that completely changes everything so that people remember it and the animation needs to be considerably better than the show's usual standard or what's the point of taking it to the big screen at all.

This is completely unsurprising to anyone with a brain. Last quarter the ad revenue and money from sales of old episodes was enough to match a period last year when they had the streaming deal with Netflix on the books. Plus toy sales are still going strong. Hasbro execs understand that the toy sales are driven by the show, they aren't going to cancel it as long as it keeps hauling in cash.
