It is a truly spectacular progression of events. I often am reminded of the multiverse theory and think about some person in the vanilla universe telling his friend "dude, there's a universe where my little pony becomes a widespread beloved cultural phenomenon" and his friend laughs hysterically. Then I think of how lucky many of us are to be in the actuality of that reality

It's scary that's what it is. I dropped into pony three years ago and it took me almost three months to catch up to the show. Now we're on season six. I can only imagine the newfags on the ride trying to play catch up on all of those episodes, the 3 EqG movies, and the shit ton of fan content. The amount fan content in particular is staggering

I mean it's not that surprising...initially it was only surprising because those of us who are a bit older or had female siblings remember the "my little pony" of our youth for being pretty vapid and..yeah for girls

But when you strip all that away and look at it for what it is....a cartoon show that pretty much stands above it's peers as being pretty good having a rabid fanbase of creeps...it's really just par for the course in nerdworld

Every once and a while something will happen that makes me think about it. Stuff like especially good episodes and the resulting sticky reaction, reaction to unusually hype/worrying news, /mlp/ 4cc, and even sometimes when there's a bunch of Anons just loving the pony like in >>27917176. It seems that all too quickly, many parts of the fandom forgot their love for the show and started fighting amongst themselves instead, trying to dictate how the community should be run. I would have liked for the enthusiasm we had in the early days to keep us together for longer than it did.

There is something about MLP that can't be replicated. Something truly and utterly unique. That's why for all the accusations the other boards throw around, there will never be "the next MLP". It happened once. It cannot happen again. While the magic can be brought back after being forgotten, there is no other source from which that magic can be created. It has to be this.
