>>
>>27866877
Right. Clearly I didn't communicate clearly enough.

I'm trying to counter your point of "Project Horizons is not stuck on its own self-importance" with several paragraphs from the author about how the story is a "theological deconstruction," and specifically calls Blackjack a "deconstruction of Christ."

If you want to insist that the intent of the author doesn’t matter, that's absolutely your right.

So what is it like for ponies fighting the Enclave and breathing in their dusted friends?
Is it an effective psychological weapon to break the targets by making them freak out?
A potent reminder that their friends are flat gone, not even a body to bury?

How should dusting be portrayed?
The pony just collapsing in on themselves like a to dry sand sculpture?
Flames and glowing lights as the body cracks apart and explodes into dust?
A crawling pink magic fire from the hit that might give a very fast pony time to cut out the section/limb and survive?

Its not a mod. Its a full game. Plus, what were you expecting from 50~ people around the world having to coordinate working on it in their spare time? They legally can't hire people to work on it full time, so its obviously going to be slow going. Just for comparison, a company like Bethesda has several hundred people working on any single project at a time.
>>
>>27870391
That when there are smaller companies doing less while putting stuff to market faster, a lot more.
They have distinct and clear business practice issues that make people who could help steer clear hence why I am not part of them .
Its not so much the game itself, though it has the issue of Zenimax far more than Hasbro running around...

Where did ponies eating meat come from?

>>
>>27874144
Necessity, most likely. It was in the original story, but never explained 'why.' Just that it happened and Velvet expressed disgust.
>>
>>27874155
ya, the seen is from the Arbu Story ark, But Calamity dose mention that he hase eaten meat before. One when his brothers force fed him hot dogs, and another when he Tried bacon and liked it.

It varryes from writer to writer, but eating meat trends to be a less then common food staple in the wasteland, but not something out of the norm.

With the comment from Calamity, it's safe to say that Wartime Equestria did make some meat products, but that could easily be chocked up to griffins being the main consumers.
>>
So how would it work out if, during the final hours of the Enclave-Griffon war, a pegastallion decides to honor the request of a dying griffon and raise her egg.
What would he do to hatch the egg?
How would raising the chick go until Operation Cauterize happens 10 years later?
What would she do when her father doesn't come home, and what life she has is torn from her by the Lightbringer?
>>
Happy birthday Winged thoughts.
>>
So what if Red Eye was actually a reverse trap, and simply wore a very well crafted packer to fake being a stallion for the public?

"Hello. How are you doing? Are you enjoying the con?"

"I'd like to be on more panels about writing, particularly working with editors or working on long projects. Still, it's been great fun?"

"If you mean writing Horizons... the ending hurt a lot. It's one thing to plan a story. When you plan to kill a character, it's just 'how will this affect the story?' When you're actually writing it... yeah. Many tears shed. P-21. Rampage stayin behind. Glory's second death. When she goes into Star House and everyone she loved is gone... yeah. Those were all painful moments to write.

>>27862953
Envy. Pure envy at my awesomeness!

Actually, it's more because I had no idea what 4chan was when they loved horizons, and when the story degraded in the eyes of many, I 'ignored' them. By the time I was aware of /foe/ it was too late to fix things. I also admit that I've had bad days where I've been an asshole here, giving as I got. Won't lie. Still, trying to do better.

>>27866995
My problem in regards to that was I was trying to make Horizons 'Literature'. Big mistake. Huge, actually. One doesn't create Literature. A story is regarded as Literature. So I got over ambitious and made a few mistakes.

>>27872314

I'm sorry! I was very confused and disoriented the whole time. I made arrangements to meet folks after one panel, but didn't meet them. I swear I would love to sign your plushie. If you live near Reno or Sacramento, I'll meet you and sign it. I promise. Or you can ship her to me and I'll sign her foot.

Honestly, I guess I should have carried a sharpie with me. I just didn't expect anyone to want me to sign anything!

Oh fuck off about Somber and the rest.
New me damned topic.

What do ponies use in the wasteland as an easily hoarded and created item, that does not lose value in trade and has a constant amount in circulation?

Do they just trade water for it in spite of the talismans?
Coal?
Do they even bother with a relative indexing of goods and trade purely barter for the buyer?

Caps have never felt like an answer to me, they would only work when a larger economy is existent ala Fallout proper.
The Wasteland in FOE feels too disjointed for caps to work at large.
>>
>>27879325
Water and food are commodities in demand that can be horded.

As for caps, they always seemed to have more of a sentimental value for the denizens of Fallout so it wasn't just the fact that it was a painted metal that could be collected or re-purposed.
But then again, would people buy melted down caps or use ingots of the stuff for trade? Dunno myself.
>>
>>27879312
Or you could just not, you know, punch him? He's a pretty cool dude. Talked to everyone and even when I gave him shit about Horizons, he agreed with me. Only problem is finding him.

>>27879325
Thank you! I've been waiting for a new topic.

Technically all trade is barter, with money serving as an easily transportable (usually) medium.
>>
>>27879399
The historic money issue was finding an agreed upon form or an exchange rate.
There isn't going to be a standard for barter here, Arbu isn't wanting for meat and sells it at a high price, while also not needing water.
Most other palces pay top cap for that, but then you suddenly have issues like the renewed R2 Junction having a full fucking orchard ready.

Essentially, yes caps might be a coinage, but its the bitcoin issue of everyone charging as they please, if they even accept it.
So it rather fails if they keep the idea running along that caps work somehow.
Particularly as the original caps were backed by a bottle of water, something very needed in the Fallout Wasteland.
Whereas in FOE, water abounds in rain and from talismans.
>>
You could do a story about a settlement that only accepts its own currency, and gives poor exchange rates, but they're literally the only settlement for miles. Add to the fact that the mayor has set up a squad of 'raiders' to destroy traders that refuse to accept his currency and a smuggler that uses the caps traded to buy valuable goods abroad and you have a ripe situation for a wanderer coming in to town. Oh, and don't cross the mayor. She's as nice as nice can be, but won't hesitate to order your food poisoned, your throat slit, or you shot in the back.
>>
Should pegasi Have wildly differing sizes much like other birds, or is this better for griffons?
How would society play out for either of them going from sparrow to Golden eagle sized?
>>
>>27879441
one of the things about caps, is that they were symbolic. They were so pathetic is was trash to the old world, in the post-apoc world they're coveted as currency.

The "war never changes" idea about resources just compound this. People are now doing life and death things over the old world's trash, just to scrape by, and having it based on a sign of old world luxury consumption that was so severe it ended up getting the old world nuked.

>>
>>27882424
yep, or well that's what I've seen. I understand the problem people have with PH, it practically jumped ten sharks into a filly cooch. I mean I even finished it, and was left feeling cheated.

But when I was talked into coming around here, it was %50 talking about how they hate PH, %25 mentioning a fic they like. and %25 about how they like to put their dick in there wifu.

It's not all bad, but some of the people here need to get over PH, and promote some other story's they like.

Oh hey thanks for reminding me.

So Dice Warwick, Dance of the Orthus.
Seriously, I thought you finished?
Who here finished their fic in the last three months?

Anyways, Dance of the Orthus review to chaper 27.

So the primary story is focussing on life in an underground metro system situated on not Hawaii.
This story is mostly revolving about one character, Vibraphone Echo, and her rapidly growing alliance of friends, allies, and occasional weird semideific beings sharing headspace Is there an actual name for all these dream entities that show up in fics?I feel like there is, but calling them Fausters doesn't seem to work with Lauren Faust being an alicorn..
The story itself is taking quite a bit to develop, this is a common issue when exploring and creating new ground, something Dice does succeed in once he gets out of the Metro and its clear Crystal Eclairing of Metro 2033.
The above ground portions and enemies are quite interesting, and do not feel out of place in the story or universe at large.
These would be a pirate group that has been raiding and sailing the oceans, a group of Revolutionary Communist filth Marxist 4 lyfe, a bunch of raiders and bandits, and the local wildlife, of which Godzilla sadly never appears.
As a story can be best judged by the villains, this is actually a rather good sign.
The pirates are kept mysterious, but given a very clear life. They have their own squabbles and issues that keep them from uniting, much like a real group, and at the same time do not feel pigeon holed into ye olde Blackbeard, beyond one group of pirates explicitly aiming for that.

The Equality faction is rather interesting, Warwick did put in the more equal than you part, along with doing some research into how revolutions start and continue, making it feel less of your typical Neoconservative perfect harmony and impossible crime rate, cowards and military superpower bullshit and more an actual civilization.
>>
>>27882472
This faction is seeking to reunite the metro by force, subversion, and more in your typical communist revolt.
But, and this is the nice part, their plan also involves solving the pesky human factor by giving everybody a datajack and enforcing groupthink on every mind.
So it does actually have the fearsome part of being plausible to succeed, as opposed to the typical, never works, all story bits warping to say it somehow could.

Finally, the Enclave make appearance as a love interest, two dead fucks, and three who fall off screen faster than that absolutely irreplaceable trophy of your days beating Galactica.
Their job is to try and find a new home for New Cloudsdale Wouldn't that make it Neo New Cloudsdale? by scouting. This is fortunately pretty much nonexistent and only one character really shows up later on, Merit Cross The one in the shower pic.
This is good, as the Enclave showing up in any number would be very out of place for this fic.

Overall, my biggest complaint with it, is how damn long its taking to develop.
Its stuck in this rut of trying to build up, set the world, explain the stakes, and then its just going to be a rollercoaster finish.
This isn't something I have found can be gotten around in stand alone books, pacing doesn't work if you also have to explain just where you are, what's going on, and more.

>Enjoyable fic, worth reading, does not succumb to the feeling of special snowflakes and try hards.
>Also hates right limbs with a passion.

Thanks for the review, means a lot.

To answer the question about the dream characters, Phobetor and later Slowtrot are from my fist fic, with Slowtrot being the protagonist, and Phobetor being the main antagonist, along with the pirate's being the descendants of the navy lead by the other villein of the fist fic. Phobetor is simply a Nightmare trapped in Tartarus, and controls other to aid in her exape. Slowtrop Stop that from happening, and was flung through time and space in the act.

As for you concerns, it's something I do worry about as well. I'm mostly bouncing around what the best possible ending is, but the overall story has been plotted out. What I have in mind so far should tie up most of the loos ends, and make a satisfying ending.
>>
>>27882691
Oh and to you specifically, spell check.
You have a severe issue.
If English is not your native language, by all means ask for help, we have plenty here.

Also you have a question/request on your fimfic.
>>
>>27882707
Ya, Dyslexia is a bitch, and spellcheck rarely catches everything. I think I took twice as much English classes in high-school and collage just to get to below average. I'm a lot better then I use to be thanks to the fic writing. If you want to see how bad I was, read Stable-Tec R&D, had no editors for most of that one.
>>
>>27882736
I find Google docs is good at helping with homophones, they have a grammar checker from their search algorithms in it, now.

Downside is it eats formatting going in and out, so mostly you would want to just ctrl+f the strings and fix your master document.

>>27882043
Thanks. I've often said that if people don't like Horizons, ignore it. But I seem to give certain groups of people a hardon for hate.

And >>27881932 is nothing new. I've had folks try and get me fired from my jobs, and a few death threats telling me that if I go to a con (in general) and they see me they'd put a bullet in me. Given that I'm mostly suicidal most of the time, I'm always disappointed.

>>27882129
I used a trip once. Then people told me I was 'namefagging' and being elitist. So I stopped using it.

>>27882348
This is the right idea. PH is done. Complaining about it isn't going to change anything. Talk about new fics. Talk about Homelands. That one's actually in the process of being written and you might actually enjoy it, or at least shape it for the better. Talk about Dance and whatever new stories you like, but above all, please get over Horizons. It happened. A lot of folks hate it. It's not worth this animosity and vitriol.

>>27882424
Talking about both is fine, imo. Just so long as people aren't repeating or endlessly vomiting bile, either should be acceptable. But talking about new stories should be the focus because, if this fandom is to grow, we need new stories and new authors and new artists.

So my challenge to the haters: Don't reply to this. Just ignore it. Let it go.

>"Y-you shouldn't criticise bad fics. They don't have to meet your standard, or any standard, to be declared quality!"

Yeah no. FoE is dying because it's a shitty world that has been done to death by a bunch of underage PH reading teenagers who pump out a sidestory during Summer break that starts exactly the same as every other fic out there. Then they start school and drop it forever leaving a terribly generic side story that adds to the thousands upon thousands of other trashy, autistic and incomplete FoE fics on Fimfiction.

It's also dying because the foundation, the original, was never tightly written enough to sustain such a large community and world. The only reason it got anywhere was because it was during the age of shock and muh feels fics such as Past Sins or Cupcakes that played on people's inner cuckold desires of wanting to see their horse Waifus get abused/killed. The fandom was young enough and filled with enough cucked normies that they were able to fall for such cheap tactics on a mass scale. Such a thing won't happen now that the Brony Bandwagon has died.

The world is exactly what fans tried to deny it was: Fallout Lore shoved into Pony shit haphazardly that misses the point and appeal of both series. It misses the main themes of Fallout while also not being a good subversion of Equestria. And let's not even get started on the dumbass plot itself or how the Epilogue killed any chance of there being sidefics Post-Pip.

Sidefics are a dumb meme that 2 conmen tried to push in order to get Kkat and the rest of her fans suck their dick. Mimizinga went for 'muh feels' and the cute appeal, whilst Somber channeled his inner 15 year old and inserted as much anime and edgy shit, but added enough faux sincerity via Angst that it appealed to millennials. This inspired others, notable a legitmently autistic Scot, to cash in on this free fame and circle jerking. The rest is history.

Tell ya, I honestly thought I was a better person than to do what I did, but it taught me that I'm not, and knowing what went through your mind, what really went through your mind, would be interesting to hear because I don't think I ever really did get any proper backlash from my actions.
>>
>>27882977
Oh, and for the record, in case you've ever wondered:
No, I don't regret the tattoo. Even to this day. Even when my love for PH ran out and this place turned me sour to it all. Even after I stopped caring for ponies and all that (I've only been posting in this thread because I was bored, and then noticed you were here.)...
Despite all that?

I don't regret it at all. I don't want to remove it. I don't want to cover it.
PH got me through some dark times, helped me stay strong and gave me a purpose. Blackjack helped me. P-21 helped me. You helped me.
So yeah, I don't regret it.
Do I still look at it? Honestly, not really these days. Not out of disgust or anything of the sort, but because there's no novelty to it now.
But no matter what, I don't think I could regret it, ever.

Oh. Sure. "Hi. Nice to meet you. Glad you could make it to the con." And then we'd talk about how you liked and didn't like the story.

Like to do? Depending on when you asked, I'd probably like to either go get lunch or go to a writing panel. I'm flexible though. I missed the OMS panel to talk with readers.

How badly did what hurt? Your spoiling the ending of Horizons? Not one bit. You were one of the eight or nine people I told in advance. It was a little annoying, but anyone who talks to me knows I spoil on the drop of a hat. The going public thing was annoying, but people do things like that. Ultimately, I was going to finish Horizons either way, so really it wasn't a terrible thing, just disappointing. But people fuck up. They don't stop being people.

And glad I could help. The story's got some big flaws. If I could, I'd rewrite the second half, but it's eaten up 4 years of my life and I'm moving on to Homelands now. So I'm glad, in spite of everything, you still have fond memories of it.

Because I need other random people on the internet to accept my opinions and realize they are wrong to like things I used to like, but have realized do not appeal to me anymore. That is why.

Anyway, even though the foundations that forms the fandom is broken and flawed, in practice that doesn't really matter to most sidefics. PH and PE launched the Sidefic fandom not just by being the first and starting the meme, but also by giving others a template to follow. Those stories aren't really set in The Fallout Equestria Wasteland, but just 'The Wasteland'. The vague location of most of these 'wastelands' is telling of what it really is. It's somewhere that is ambiguously far enough from the happenings of the main story, but close enough that it's still considered part of 'Equestria'. PH demonstrated this more by essentially re-writing the entire lore to weakly justify it's Cyberpunk shit

Essentially, everyone has been creating their own Fallout Equestria's from the very beginning and disregarding all the autistic shit Kkat did in his lore while trying to salvage the 'good stuff'. Sure, sometimes it lead to even worse shit like Project Human and Project Horizons but I digress. More people have essentially copied the idea of 'Fallout but with horses' rather than FoE's specific interpretation of that. They're just lazy assholes who don't want to re-write the entire Pre-war events and so borrow Kkat's label and other select bits of lore so their readers will remember the general gist of things.

The real thing that lead to the death of the Fandom is what lead to the death of the Fallout Fandom: Fallout 4. It's exactly everything those bitter /r9k/ tier faggots on NMA said Fallout 3 was, word for word. It's every CRPG/F1 and F2 fans nightmare manifested into physical form. It's so bad that I and many others have essentially lost hope in the Fallout series.

Name me one good idea/concept from Fallout 4 that isn't PA. I won't get a real answer that isn't grasping for straws because there's nothing. Absolutely nothing, it's all fucking retarded. The fact that there has been 0 new sidefics ripping off F4's plot and lore is testament to how much of a failure it really is. Skyrim and Oblivion have nothing on this shit. Hell, even ESO is harmless compared to this because at least it's just a dumb side project no one cares about. F4 is the flagship product of the series now, and thanks to it's numerous references to NV (flawed as it may or may not be) not even that game is spared from it's failure.

So with the true source of inspiration squandered, there is nowhere left for most Fallout Equestria fanfic writers to turn to than the fic itself. And surprise surprise, it's worst than people remember. Kkat's blog posts do nothing to help the credibility of the original world. Thus, I ask sidefic writers: why do you use Fallout Equestria for your story? Because it's easy? Because you don't need to rewrite the pre-war history? Because you somehow still like Fallout and FoE and think they're good enough series to do a crossover in?

If it's anything but the last one, I implore you to reconsider you choice. Write your own post-apocalyptic pony story. You own completely unique setting, your own completely unique apocalypse, and that way your story will be your own completely unique work that can stand on it's own rather than relying on a shitty dwindling fandom who read an old 600k fic from 2011.

This fanfiction of a fanfiction system has been flawed from the beginning, in fact now your story will be hurt more if you label it 'Fallout Equestria' simply because it's tied to the thousands of other side fics out there, and the monolith of cancer that is FoE/PH. There is no gain in using Fallout or the FoE setting as a crutch to your story or as a brand to try and get more recognition. It will hurt more than it will help.
>>
>>27883390
>The fact that there has been 0 new sidefics ripping off F4's plot and lore is testament to how much of a failure it really is.
Or maybe it's something to do with the general decrease of new fandom content (both rate of creation and exposure) on the whole because now that ponies aren't this weird new thing anymore, the buzz is dying and the fandom is contracting?
>>
>>27883409
There's been 121 fics with Fallout Equestria in the title published since the release of F4 and 5 general Fallout fics. Of those 5, 4 were direct New Vegas rips offs with a few of the other Fallout Equestria ones also being NV clones. Meanwhile, there has only been a whopping 2 F4 clones. One that was canceled after the epilogue, and the other still kinda alive (or at least as alive as most Sidefics). Both of those F4 clones were published recently, like the first one just a week ago and the second one sometime in June.

14 a month is a pretty steady rate for new fics and considering how well F4 sold you'd think more FoE fans would be inspired to rip off/base a side fic off of it but nope. Most stories still use NV as an inspiration even post F4. Might I ask you why?

*prologue, no sleep is no fun. You get my point though. F4 has been a failure.
>>
>>27883523

I had an idea for a F4 fic. Essentially the protagonist's mom worked for the MWT on developing the next generation in robotic ponies. Why have ponies at risk of fighting at all? The protagonist has fraternal twins, and after many twists and turns, the protag is put in the freezer with her niece. Stable tec wrote her down as the baby's mother (due to a joke by her brother when the Stable Tec pony knocked.)

The baby is taken because the Institute needs her to open the bypass spells on the machinery, making better synths. Unfortunately, they can't unlock the best designs, because the niece doesn't have the genes needed... but the protag does. They realize that the protag is actually the daughter of the designer, and spring her from the Stable before the life support fails entirely. Unfortunately, the corsair they sent to retrieve her was delayed, and she wandered away to her adventures in the wasteland. She runs across rogue synths who refer to a mommy. Sadly, being raised in isolation as a glorified biological password didn't do the niece any favors in the mental stability department. The institute wants her captured. Mommy wants her to free her and kill everyone in the wasteland, cause they're all horrible, especially the Institute!

Of course, things get complicated when the Steel Rangers and the Enclave both show up in the Commonwealth and start searched for the Institute while the 'Royal Guard' struggles to keep everything together.

Nick Valentine is actually the protag's sister, and Mommy's father. He doesn't remember much of that life though, but there's something about the protag he finds intriguing.

Hancock is Mommy's real mother, the Mayor of Independence, and she's almost as crazy as her daughter, but she's still sane. She's made some doozy of custom chems.

Then there's Vigor. She's an alicorn come to investigate the possibilities of IMP present in some lab that's producing murderous, cannibalistic alicorn mutants.

Piper is a unicorn that is trying to find the truth and wants to make sure that's known.

Preacher is an earth pony who's a fraud, passing himself off as anyone but himself: a raider who raped and killed plenty of other ponies.

Gunsmoke is a griffon for hire who doesn't see any point in the world besides caps and more caps. He used to be idealistic after the whole Lightbringer thing, but experience taught him to look out for number one... even if it means shooting number two in the back.

Paladin Starfall is a tried and true defender of the Steel Ranger, coming to investigate the robots present and see if he can find where they came from. Doesn't help that he's been replaced, and doesn't like it when he finds his own corpse.

Regal is a pegasus with the Enclave trying desperately to believe and prove that the Enclave weren't all murderous bastards, and doing all she can to try and convince the protag to listen to her and give the Enclave a chance. She's mistaken. Badly.

Clockwork is Cogsworth. Ain't gonna lie. His programming was tampered with and he's secretly working with the institute to get the protag back to them.

Xushu is a zebra doctor. No, not a shaman. Why does everyone always assume he's a shaman? Does he wear wooden masks and shake bones over people? He's one of the residents of an all zebra stable looking to find a cure or treatment for a disease that's slowly spreading through the stable's population.

Not bad at all, probably needs a few tweeks here and their, and you got yourself something interesting. By making the MC the miguffin, that solvs the problem to why they are important, and as long as you keep the MC from becomeing an over powered jackass, you could make an intresting character with that.

The big question is how dose the NCR factor into this, personally you could just have them show up as Caravan guards, inshuring that New Canterlot's trade routs are safe, so that their city state can grow.

How required are gas masks in FOE?

One of the things that made me curious was thinking that in Manehattan, the Balefire is still burning.
Thinking this further, there should be plenty of places that are still active with fallout and thus needing to be protected in.
One thing this leads to is a place that is much more worried about survival suits and sealing damage than normal, and an excuse to dress ponies up in great coats.

One consideration I had for this place is that it wither ended up stuck in the bottom of a crater, thus preventing a way out, or none of the ponies want to risk going out further than then their survival gear will work for, resulting in none of them being able to leave the impact sites.

Well its more I am looking for a reason in the setting, the idea of them bouncing around from airlock to airlock as the ponies, enemy and friend, have to deal with the fact that even a simple tear on some old rebar is as life threatening as a shot in the chest.
That time spent outside has to be carefully monitored, with areas so horrible that even just swapping a filter will kill you as surely as nude swan diving in it.

I mean what sort of story could be interesting there?
I'm not wanting to write a get out of hell story and then leaving a message how they got out.
Nor something involving the forever war between two factions.

So I'm kind of stuck with some ideas and no stories.

Things like the protagonist sitting in an orchard, enjoying the sunlight and greenery, before pulling one of the blinds open and looking outside to the ashen green fire hellscape.

Moments of making an enemy into a friend with some duct tape and carrying them to an airlock.

Terror of after everything, it coming down to three minutes in an ash storm, trying to find the airlock and safety, or die an ignominious fate as air runs out.

Maybe you could narrate the story of a group that in an attempt to scape from bounty hunters decide travel thought a poisonous area. Another group is also traveling there, as a common route for them to go from A to B. Both groups came across and attack each other (one thinks the another are raiders, the another group think they are the bounty hunters) to end both groups lost and mixed up with a increasing tension between them.

But what matters is Equestria and making sure that it keeps going, even as everything else might fall apart, you need to keep your friends together in harmony.

Yes, Red Eye and his disciples do come to mind.

But what about the small fry? The day to day survivors? The mayors (or organizers) of small settlements scratching a living out of their surroundings? The leaders of small, wandering groups or bands of guns for hire?

Anon, big or small, Equestria has a part for us all.
Hehe, I sound like Zecora there.
Oh how I miss that dour old mare.
You can't save them all anon, and sometimes, sometimes you have to do things that really really hurt you and your friends.
But it will all be sunshine and rainbows, that's what matters in life.
Then in the end you can throw a great big party and make them all happy at what you did.
Friends will always be there for you in the end, that's why they're friends!

What about a random fight scene as a story peace?
Something like:

Light was knocked through the false wall separating the office from the security station by the Steel Ranger’s hydraulic assisted buck. He felt something shift and crack as he rolled on the floor, desperate to get away from the murderous mare in the suit. His hoof clattered against something metal, looking down he saw the MoP sign from the lid of the med kit. Hoping, he ripped the box open with his magic. He grinned at the contents, still intact after all this. Two healing potions, a dash inhaler and syringes of psycho and MedX. Grabbing them up, he downed and used them all without care. Time slowed as his body knitted and healed, the damage from Trottingheim slowly raveling up before Light’s eyes. Looking around the room, he realized it was the inside of the security station, the place that held all the guns. The guns he had come into this building for. His horn began to glow, the Dash speeding his perception to the point he could see which of the carbines had loaded grenade launchers. He floated them out, primed and ready as the Dash hit began to wear off, time speeding up as he finally spoke, “Here’s your guns rust bucket.” He pulled the triggers on all the guns, 4 grenades arced across the short space and detonated on the battle suit.

Expanding,
When in the original she said her parents died going over a cliff, perhaps the actual fact is she too went over, but ended up maimed. Being the mechanical genius she is, she sets about building herself cyber limbs to replace what was broken or lost in the crash.
Ever since she has had issues with being able to stay in one place, that she is afraid other would see her as less than a pony, that she feels she is less than a pony now.
Sanctuary under Krieg was the first place she found that would acknowledge her as a pony without question, and had the medical tech to make all her cyber parts look and act normal from her jury rigged rubber and salvaged fur coatings.

I mean Tofu did do medical prosthetics and elective augmentation before with Solara and her Hawkeye implants, so that could be one more fun part to the rewrite of saying how different things are.

If I were to say where to take it afterwards, I'd say Sari of Transformers Animated is a good recent and contemporary portrayal of unknowing cyberform making it clear they are no less human than before.
It should come down more to being a secret with Greaser, and perhaps breaking the wrench wench out of her shell and fear that she might not be accepted if others knew what she was.

Incidentally, this is also something rather common in people who do have prosthetics, they feel less like a person because they are.THis is why some go into depression, and others try extreme activities to seem more "real".
In reality, missing body parts have nothing to do with a personality, character or otherwise.

Something more like,

Crushing pain in his chest snapped Light out of his delirium.
“Oh good, and here I thought you wouldn’t ever know what I was going to do.” Trottingheim backhoofed him, the augmented blow sending Light into a pile of sand barrels.
“You see, your little mare friend was quite eye opening. She means there is more beyond this crater, that the world did survive, and I intend to take it over. Oh let the squabbles amongst the Joists and the Rafters continue. They can even have the slag of my lab if they want. I am going to something bigger.” The earthpony paused, setting his enviro helmet on his head and locking it in place.
“I am going beyond the crater, I am going to rule Equestria, and you shall die here. You broke the filters with my lab, I’d say you have 20 minutes before it gets hard to breathe in here. Toodles.”
And with that, the mastermind of so much sorrow in Aspen made his way to the airlock. Light, battered and broken, his suit shredded and helmet gone could not survive outside to stop him. But then, he didn’t need to survive to stop him. Arcing a shock spell through the sand, he pulled out a glassy dagger, its edges more than sharp enough to break a seal. Unsteadily, he got up on two legs, then four and began to charge at the airlock, dagger at the ready.
>>
>>27890910
“Oh? You still think you have some fight in you? Guess you aren’t your father’s son after all. No matter, you can’t stop me.” He hoofed the cycle button, and the doors on the airlock slid shut. Light thrust the dagger forward, shooting it through the crack and into Trottingheim’s helmet before stabbing it in the soft seal of the outer door.
Klaxons wailed and speakers crackled, warning that the airlock had been breached. Toxic green air began to pour around the dagger, flooding the chamber. Trottingheim desperately tried to put a hoof to his facemask, while smashing through his saddlebag for a can of sealant. In his focus, he turned right into the stream of outside air and it was done. His withered corpse collapsed in the airlock, body ravaged by century old balefire.
All that remained was for Sky Light to meet the same fate in less than half an hour.

Gardens purged the radiation and taint but most of the wasteland would still be wasteland as in, no topsoil. Only hardy, weedy stuff would grow initially. Of course with cultivation you could get a layer of topsoil going again and with the weather being managed you wouldn't have to worry too much about it drying up and dust-bowling away. By the time the NCR is well established you should see some serious patches of green around settled areas but they would also be unevenly distributed and there's still no guarantee that population growth will scale with crop output. This will lead conflict and... War never changes.

So in a post pip Equestria, raiders have significantly dropped as a problem in the wasteland, as without the radiation and taint, communitys can focus more on defending themselves then simply surviving. So what then would replace them as a threat, I say bandits, but even then they would not be as a presistant threat like the raiders were. Though if were going with any kind of group that would have been left unaffected by the Light Bringer, I say Pirates. Though religated mainly to the costs, They would be allied with local bandits, and raider tribes and assault the many caravans that would have started up do to the sun retuning, and the radation clearing up. The big advntage they would hold is that their home would be on the water, making it hard for a wandering hero to simply follow them to their base, and wipe them out. (Pick Related)

What's with the funky t60 tesla armor?

Anyways, just because taint and rads are gone, doesn't get rid of raiders.
Much of the reasons for them to raid are there, and now they can grow food to be even better between raids.
As well, there will be more targets now, both from pegasi to go after, onto the issue of there now being homesteads to raid as opposed to towns.

Pirates will keep going just as they do today.

How exactly does it help with "levitation"?

Is it amplifying their magic to make themselves float or fly like pip? Is there a component that takes in magical energy and redirects it to a specific effect?

How does this nonsense work?
>>
>>27902721
they can lift heavy objects much more easily, like lets say a gattling gun, or a steal beam. Simply it makes their ability to handle weapons much easier, allowing faster targeting that ponies in basic power armor cannot do. and as well making them absolutely deadly in melee combat, as they can use everything as a weapon.

how it dose that is simply that the magical field that the armor makes acts as a buffer for the Unicorn, which reduces strain, and buffs up their ability. Nothing godly, and dose require a unicorn to be well trained in levitation magic passed moving simple small objects. It still has all the flaws of regular power armor, just that it can much easier throw spark grenades back at you.

Man that's a term I haven't heard in a while but god damn is it true. It's way too easy to go Murder Hobo in Fallout and elderscrolls 2bh and it kind of spoils the fun after a while.

I've heard things from some authors where they decide beforehand to only allow their characters and protagonists to kill a certain number of enemies. Good idea I think, because it would force them to consider alternate routes of solving a conflict.

Kinda why I chose to have a certain someone disarm two bandits instead of just kill them like canon fodder.

Oh I agree on the death part, its just at some points especially Murky I would expect snapping and suicidal attacks or at least some deaths.
That many fics seem to think grinding down the character, placing hardship after hardship on them, still has them willing to sit and have perfectly normal tea parties.
Not even just a shattering of the cup when thrown to the ground in range or walk away.
I don't think there should be murder as the answer to everything, Bobulator did that and shortened his own fic into a confusing morass of what the story was about.
I do think fics need to remember that guns are going to be used, hooves, anything really if somebody is pushed a bit, and they will just cleave through everything, as with the Nice attack.

I suppose in part I am arguing for a better balance on too broad a topic.
Villains, good villains, that aren't over the top and should be running around with plot shields, remembering this is a spaghetti western homage series and should see lots of gun play, and that all the same, there are lots of diplomatic routes, even if some of them involve the sacrifice of kneecaps.

What finished story are you talking about there?

Well, I mean, they're fast, muscular (bashing the walls and denting the doors), smell of mint (could mean the zebras on account of mintals), do not agress each other, are resistant and fast healing or immune to small arms, have large reflective eyes, and seem to be in places that ponies or zebras should be.

Too me, they kind of just feel like zebra ghouls, whether feral or not, protecting the station/reclaiming the underground.
That is, scary more in the suspense and apparent lack of firepower that should be present.

OTOH, they were fought and killed by Red Eye forces, so its a bit disarming of their danger from that, essentially saying they can't be that dangerous since this was when the place was still lawless and being setup.
Ergo, these would have to be intelligent ambushers to get the ponies in the metro/too much panic to administer "shut the fuck up and die" bullet supplements.

An interesting idea for a magical artifact.

>Attempting to improve the time travel spell in an effort to forestall the end of the world indefinitely, the MoAS commissioned a spell matrix that would send the wearer back one hour in time.
>However, the spell required one hour to recharge.
>A megaspell version of the research was under construction, but vanished at some point near completion.
>It is unknown if this was an accident, or if it was fired on itself in an attempt to take the knowledge back in time to stop the war before it began.
>Several of the small spells have turned up in the possession of wastelanders, many of whom will sell them for the right price.
Something as an interesting thought experiment, you can alter the past, but not in something too large for the wasteland.
OTOH, it is a highly therapeutic device as it allows you to murder that annoying companion every hour.

There would also be two of you, your original vanishing at the one hour mark as the spell recharges.

So realistically, what keeps ponies from making Syrian hellcannons or barrel bombs?
Is it just a lack of author writing, or is it most stories are just too narrow and jumpy to encounter actual defense militias cropping up?
>>
>>27919654
Until someone writes a Fallout Equestria story that's literally about the horrors of war (as opposed to gun porn or character drama with guns as set dressing), I doubt we'll see much in the way of IEDs.
>>
>>27919714
Hell cannons are scrap metal artillery peices, and barrel bombs are just whatever you can pack explosives in as a bomb, close to your idea of IEDs.

I can think of many ways to use IEDs well in a story.

Things like haveing them be part of an opening ambush for the story, being used to stop a convoy with Steel Ranger support, covering a retreat by taking out the base of a building and collapsing it as a team of pegasi make it up into the sky carrying their comrades, or as part of distractions by using a small charge then a bigger one when the guards investigate.
Let alone setting them around raider locations to make a tupperware party from hell.
>>
>>27919751
What I'm saying is that there isn't anything that really sets them apart from other arms, save for their improvised nature and often their messy deployment. Themes-wise, this says something about the characters and groups using it - that they're poorly resourced, and desperate enough to make a stand with those poor resources, but also that they aren't too bothered with rules of engagement and collateral damage.

Plot-wise, it's a gun. It's a thing that introduces danger into a situation and alters its power dynamic. Painting your plot gun a different colour does not make it fresh and exciting to most audiences. The different tactical applications of different kinds of arms aren't intrinsically interesting, you need to take a step away from the literal action and think about what this particular object says about the character and what it means to the character.

GOOD EXAMPLE: Little Macintosh is a gift from an estranged family member to another to mend poor relations. It, along with the location of Stable 2, serve as kind of a foreshadowing of what Pip's heritage is, and a reminder of it afterwards, along with a certain set of values.

BAD EXAMPLE: Spitfire's Thunder is a unique anti-machine rifle. It's a very video-gamey weapon with a video-gamey presentation and description found in a video-gamey way (by cracking a safe or something), and Spitfire has nothing to do with any of the characters in particular, it's just a "hey you know this character right?"

So, I was expecting something more at that end, like a balefire shape charge just erasing the stable in its entirety.
A collapsed building really isn't a threat to this, particularly with unicorns, cutters, and years of solo supplies.

About the only real question is how much balefire is contaminating the area, and thus how long it will be to excavate the center.
A rather poor plan, malice should have stuck it to the door and pop welded the door shut for pretty much all time.

Alloy feels somewhat disjointed here, I get the idea is too show the passing of time, and it is her character, but she feels like you accidentally published your outline for the chapter not so much a chapter on its own.
OTOH, it really really does move well, you packed a very nice progression into this chapter.
I am rather curious what Kyra is planning on here, and was actually expecting a sudden but inevitable betrayal. After all, none of them paid for her protection...

Malice is fun now, access to tactical booms is a good sign of her living a good life.
I am going to be rather curious to find out where she got it, and learned how to use it.

Oh no no, not so much that.

I was asking thematically, why hasn't any griffons shown up with air dropped 55 gallon drums of explosives and wiped out some target on a contract.
Or somebody making artillery peices and using them in defense of their town, such as in an area with active steel rangers and a large clearing around the town.

That is, why haven't there been stories with star fort earthwork fortress towns with shitty but effective artillery protecting a bunch of ponies inside against Steel Rangers after their tech.

I get the idea on unique ideas, and would raise that most uniques should be smithy specials, where the character has it with them from all the tweaks on their travels, or is working on making one ala turning an S&W sporter into a very nice
>pic related

I do not agree with the arbitrary game nature of uniques being randomly super powered normal guns, and rather instead enjoy the idea of them being very custom pieces, such as Tofu introducing the Railway Rifle, the alien blasters, or pulling out one of the weapons options i have penned.
That if they are to be like something but arbitrarily better, its much better story wise to make it an actual unique weapon or give a good reason, such as non rechargeable powerpacks and finding a pristine model making it that much better.

I think the zebra rifle was a bit on the line, in that while it was supposed to be a mass produced weapon, it was an exclusive one that was never met anywhere else in story.
It did however suffer unique decay when Red Eye started making bypass spell rounds, which made it more interesting as it wasn't some unreproducible thing.
>>
>>27919942
Not all Unicorns are Pip level of lifty-lift, anon. It'll take them a long time to dig them out. Plus, as you said, the radiation is bad news.
As far as I understand her, Malice isn't really about making the smart moves, she's all about sending messages and making a big show of things. She didn't have to make the deal with Alloy, she could have killed her right away, or just gone off and sent her raiders to find Copper. She did it to show off her strength, and to have fun. Plus, if she ever wants to, she can dig them out and see if they want to play.
What do you mean about Alloy?
>none of them paid for her protection...
Kyra said she's been giving the Stable big discounts, so I assume she's getting paid by them.

I dunno, I really liked this chapter.

So I read the first chapter of Long Haul.
Does it get better?
I mean its already a disabled protagonist, backstory is everyone he knows dies (Raptors are small ships, analogous to our fighters, no way one has more power than strategic balefire bombs when its reactor goes off.) and now he has to go to the surface to save a friend trapped in a cave.
Further, how does he manage to survive if even the glint makes the rocks all nice and toasty?
I'm a bit put off by how stereotypical a snowflake beginning this feels.
The teacher playing not my government, the tiny town making ships while suffering, it all feels rather like what not to do in a story as background.

Oh yes, and the main character is gay, again in the first chapter.
Is this the part I'm told of gay people making it all about them being gay?
Because I am still waiting for that IRL.
>>

>>
>>27925028
Well at least something other than the sudden and spontaneous grisly (seriously, I don't even write that much) death of the best friend?

Or maybe some idea of what is going on, a bit better placement of the characters before enacting a new Red Wedding, and a better reason, like the place finding and working on some SPP tower and accidentallying the core.
Also a good way to do a sudden flash freeze instead of generic explosion opening.
>>
Story idea:
Teen nuke horses decide to be goofy and play with some old slaver gear they found laying around, hoping to freak their 'rents out with it.
Downside, the gear is all still active, and when they snap on the collars and drop on the rings, they become slaves themselves.
Worst part, they can't find the control box to turn them off, and if they move away from the wreck, the collars start beeping.

their only hope now is that the slaver companion comes back and takes them for sale, otherwise it will be death by exposure.

How do ponies react to rapid storms approaching?
Are they scared of the chance of flash floods?
Do the high winds and debris cause issues?

Do they enjoy the cool damp air and some of them race to stay just ahead of the rain to enjoy it?
>>
>>27926908
Their expectations would be set by their climate. In temperate regions, where soft rain is a constant, they'd probably see them as a nuisance and soldier on, but may be caught off guard in the event of unusually strong storms. In warmer regions where the weather is more turbulent, they might have some more reliable precautions, but also be more used to rebuilding after freak weather events. In subarctic regions, they'd be more concerned about things like snow weight and being caught out in blizzards. Maybe.
>>
>>27926908
It would depend on the area, but the place I'm writing about now it's called Junktown for lack of a better name would need to worry about thick mud and possible run off. Probably no flooding unless it's been days of heavy rain.

I burned a commision to get him a Jizzeenie of Air Raid.
Then he stopped speaking at all to me.
I don't know if he considers it an insult or his mother never taught him to say thank you when somebody goes out of their way to help you.

I told the artist to go crazy and surprise me.
I did not know what Fapplebloom was either.
The 4Chan party wasn't that bad though at Bronycon.
I gave a 4 hour dissertation on the nature of space time.

Nope.
I have my Schedule A and am ADHD.

But really, its more the peeving that I don't know if I did right or not in sacrificng a chance to get muh OC finally made or to have something funny like Steel Cherry and Granite playing a ball game to keep the con shenanigans going.
Senpai pls

Well based on his (lack of) response I'd say you done fucked up. Was he prompt about prior replies?
>>
>>27928646
A bit.
Very curt though, as if he only did it because of hamtervention.

Tofu always seems pretty chill to me. It's entirely possible he was expecting to be fucked again, or he didn't think it would play out.
>>
>>27928818
So what, he thinks I fucked him over?
I offered to get him an on the spot commish, but he never set a price.
Hell I made a PayPal just for this.
>>
>>27928836
No. You said he was curt, right? I'm saying he was expecting some cunt anon to pull another Riddles and that's probably why he was so short with you.

Did you tell him who you were? That may have helped things.

No, come to think of it I don't think my gmail says nymphanon.

Then again, that's an issue on its own...
