Keep Calm and Flutter On was a jumbled mess, like the majority of S3 episodes; the S4 premiere is a flat-line, and the finale is only adored because of its DBZ nonsense. Make New Friends but Keep Discord is probably the strongest out of all of them, but is hampered by needless fanservice.

I mean in my opinion Twilight's character hasn't changed that much from before season 3's finale, but there's still the fact that S4's premier and finale and S5's finale were pretty focused on Twilight herself. On the other hand S5's premier was more focused on the Our Town ponies and Glimmer and S6's premier, Glimmer and Sunburst.

Nu-glim fails as a character even from the most objective standpoint possible. She brings no new character dynamic to the table, she fills no role that a dozen other more established characters couldn't, and she doesn't really have any meaningful conflicts. She doesn't do anything interesting or enlightening. The fact that this... thing... was ripped from a far superior character makes it even worse.

Well to be fair she is already quite adept in magic and has figured out things that Twilight hasn't (like the cutie mark removal spell, extending the time travel spell by using the cutie map) and has helped fixed the cutie map and repair the Crystal Heart. But you're still right with the no new character dynamic, meaningful conflict, and the fills no role that others could easily fill in (like Zecora, or Moondancer.) Personally I'm just waiting on how they'll handle her even further for better or for worse. Nothing says you can't like, enjoy, or love a villain. I mean think of villains like Darth Vader from Star Wars or the Joker from Detective Comics. People liked Darth Vader for being this mysterious, unwavering, badass of whom might of gave people chills to their spines or with the Joker for being this insane, unpredictable sociopath of whom was actually pretty funny at times.

Starlight imo, manages to maintain being an enjoyable villain by being this normal pony in direct contrast to the show's previous big bad threats in finales and premiers, but still quite adept in magic, but not enough that she could overpower too powerful beings as demonstrated when Glimmer tried to attack Twilight but Twilight's shield still held.

Rather she uses her wits, cunning thinking, and suaveness to achieve her goals. She uses her wits by leading them into a cave and surrounding the Mane six with her followers, and by applying a stasis spell to Twilight that readies faster than Twilight's magic beam. She uses her cunning thinking to keep her followers in the unknown to the reality there and to make the her town look more innocent than it really is. And she uses her suaveness in order to convince new followers to join her town and follow her philosophy, hell, she even convinces Fluttershy temporarily that her town isn't so bad.

Things that tend to make a villain likeable or enjoyable are like the following:

I can get Mane 6 and secondary characters, since they obviously have a lot of character to them in the first place. I can even get background pones, since most people give them extra character according to their own vision.

But Starlight is in a weird position. She made for a fantastic villain and now that she's been sloppily reformed, she's... really boring. There are plenty of how-to guides on creative writing that deal with tropes and clichés. Some of them even have articles on there. TVT is just some online wiki with a bunch of pigeonholing spergs behind it, generally speaking.

But I didn't mean that as an ad-hom. The second line was the one for you to pay attention to. The point I was trying to make was that old Glim was written with far greater skill and tact than nu-Glim ever was, and whereas old Glim was hated for the right reasons, nu-Glim is hated for the wrong reasons, and more widely so.
