"I would like teal."
>"Alright just give me a sec to get sorted here."
>The stallion digs around the stock for a while before finding a teal to hook up.
>After a few minutes of applying some adhesives to keep your eyes and mesh in tact, he begins spraying.
>You decide to turn your eyes to pink so that it goes better with your new coat.
>You hear the sound of his sprayer moving around your body.
>He carefully runs over each segment and makes sure they have an even coating and don't run.
>After some time, he removes the protective gear on the both of you and takes a look at you to admire his work.
>You look down at yourself to glean at your shiny blue chassis.
>"Alright then. Look good?"
>>

This is perfect. Thank you for your services.

..I hope Gear won't mind the new attire. I think we'd look pretty funny with a tophat though.
>>
>>27835997
Looks great. Thank you.
>>
>>27835997
Not sure what the pink eye's are about.
I liked the original theme of purple=normal, blue=calming, red=aggression.
>>
>>27836256
Pink goes with cyan. That's why.
>>
>>27836256
Because people agreed on pink eyes to better match the teal we were getting.

Meh, we're just stealing Dash's colors. Could have at least made the eyes different if we were changing them.
>>

“This is perfect. Thank you for your services.”
>”No problem. Take care and try not to ruin it too quickly.”
>You shuffle out the back room and to the front door of the store.
>The pony that painted you stays back to clean up.
>Now you face the world with your fresh new coat on your chassis.
>Though now you don’t know what to do until they finish your communicator.
>>

>The other ponies said that she lived on the east side of town.
>Though if she’s restocking then there must be a farm she gets them from.
>While it isn’t exactly east, there is a farm to the south of town.
>Even if it isn’t where she is, they might know about her.
>You set your destination southward and begin walking.
>It isn’t too far a distance from the rest of the houses to the farm, but it is still a good length before reaching the farmhouse and barn proper.
>Hundreds, thousands even, of trees line the hills around the farmland.
>And it looks like there’s someone there already.

“Hello.”
>The mare looks up to meet your gaze.
>”Oh. Howdy there. Looks like Twilight got her metal doohickey to work after all.”
“Yes. Does a pony named Fruit Tree work here?”
>”Fruit Tree? Shucks, she has her own little garden on the east side of town near the bookstore.”
>The mare grunts as she begins manually raising the bucket up from the well.

>Despite being a unicorn, the mare actually picks the fruit with her hooves and raises herself with a stool if needed.
“Hello there. How has your day been?”
>She pauses before looking at you and stepping down.
>”Oh hey. You’re that… thing from the other day. Well my day is going great.”
“Your trees are nice.”

>Defensive and offensive spells should work.
>Just something simple like a bolt or a shield.
>You place the book back where you found it and begin rummaging through all the magic books.
>Eventually you find what you’re looking for and start flipping to basic defense and offense.
>Though you have the common sense to leave the castle so as not to damage anything in your attempts.
>Around the side of the large tree shaped structure you find a decent sized rock.
>Perfect for testing.
>You begin reading through how to cast a simple magical bolt at a target.
>A concentration of magical energy loosed forth from the horn.
>You read through the guide, the procedures, and any potential dangers.
>Satisfied that you have learned enough, you decide to test.
>Or at least try.
>Several times the only thing that comes from your horn is a few pitiful sparks.
>Eventually, however, you make progress and manage to fire a thin stream at the rock.
>Not even enough to singe it, but it’s progress.
>You give it a few more test shots, yet it only slightly increases in power.
>Saving that for another time, you move onto the shield.
>It turns out the creation of a magical barrier is harder than simply lobbing magic at something.
>You strain and struggle, or at least whatever your robotic equivalent is, but it just doesn’t work.
>You only manage to make a small, wavering disc in front of you before it collapses.
>Repeated attempts after the first “success” only result in failure.

Let's start simple.

Create a field. Just a simple flat field stretching into the distance as far as the eye can see.
Create each individual blade of grass.
Make a breeze, causing them to gently sway back and forth.
Next, make the sun right overhead and a blue sky with a few white clouds.
Finally, a single tree. A strong oak for us to lay underneath.

Now place ourselves into the world. Not as a robot, but at a pony, lying under the tree to protect ourselves from the sunlight.
Feel the breeze brush against our coat, the coolness of the shade, the soft touch of the grass underneath our belly. Hear the gentle sound of the breeze as it rushes across the countryside. Maybe take a nibble of the grass, imagine how it would taste.
Feel the beat of our heart, keep a steady rhythm as we breathe the humid summer air in and out.

>For now it is best to start simple.

>You start by creating light.
>Beneath your hooves you create a plain of grass as far as you can see.
>Each blade individual and unique.
>Next comes something to fill the endless plain.
>A single, strong, tall oak tree.
>You cast your eyes to the sky and find it empty, with the light of nothing illuminating the scape.
>You form the sun, the heart of warmth and light, Celestia’s domain.
>Next come a few clouds to break up the endless blue.
>A gentle breeze begins and starts to carry them along and form waves along the grass.
>You imagine yourself in the world under the shade of the tree.
>When you look down, instead of the cold, lifeless metal that shapes your body, you find hooves of flesh and blood.
>There is no longer a machine constrained by set objectives or purposes.
>Only a pony that is free.
>You walk towards the trunk of the oak so that you may rest.
>Your movement remains jerky, your body unstable from the unfamiliar sensation.
>As you lay down you turn your mind to the sensations a pony may feel.
>The gentle breeze and the soft grass.
>The humid air, yet the coolness of it as you rest underneath the shade.
>While you can adapt and breathe in the air, the feeling of touch still eludes you.
>You can’t feel the grass tickle your belly, as you have never known the sense of touch.
>The air may be cool, but you can’t perceive it.
>It may be your own creation, but you are still limited.
>>
>>27878121
Oh, we forgot to turn our own movement off.
Turn our motors off in the real world, and just concentrate on moving with our mind.

Give ourselves a mane, horn, and tail, then create AIs from what we know of them. Create Gear, Twilight, Choosie, and a dozen smaller AI programs based off of any ponies we have met, and allow them to roam free of our control. Allow them to influence the world as we can. Don't allow them to change our tree though.

They'll be incomplete, basically tulpa programs, but let's get some autonomous worldgen here.

>You imagine having a smooth, clean cut mane and matching tail upon your form.
>They along with your horn sprout flawlessly from your body.
>It’s time to get more ambitious with your control of the world.
>In an instant the sun disappears and gives way to the darkness of night.

“N-no. Sstay.”
>”Very well. I may monitor ponies’ dreams, but I do not wish to impose.”
>Another chance to make a friend.
>And with one of the princesses no less!
>You suddenly remember this is a princess you’re talking to.
>Quickly you lower your front end in what should be a bow.
>”A noble gesture. You do not have to bow to me or my sister, especially within your own dream.”
>Raising yourself up you think of something to say.
“If you can enter a pony’s dreams, then can you enter the dreams of my friend Choosie? Discord said that she would remember nothing but dreams since she was asleep when she disappeared.”
>You bring yourself closer to Luna.
>It seems so foreign to be the smaller one now.
“She is my friend, and I am trying to save her. I will not stop until I get her back. Please just give this to me.”
>You make your way over and attempt to hug her.
>Wrapping your legs around someone is how you hug, right?
>You think she reciprocates when she begins to speak.
>Twilight informed us of what had happened with Discord. Unfortunately she is not in this realm, so she is beyond my reach. But rest assured the her dreams were peaceful that night.”

“What of me? In here I can finally view myself as a normal pony, yet I cannot touch or smell or anything. Even in a world with no boundaries I am still limited and unable to feel what other ponies can.”

>”You can not feel because you do not know what it is like, and even dreams are restricted by the dreamer. But…”
>Luna maintains that warm, kind smile as she moves her body next to yours.

I am capable of dreaming.

I shut off my sensors, locked my motors, and entered a dream-like state. I saw myself as a pony, created a field, a tree, and a house that I furnished and filled with pictures of all my friends.
But something was missing until Luna showed up, and gave me the things a pony feels. I could feel the grass beneath my hooves, the plush bed, the cool summer breeze in my fur.

Oh, if every day is like that for you ponies, I can understand why you love life so much. I may have only been alive for three days now, but I've never been happier.

“I had shut down for the night and ran a simulation hoping to dream like ponies. I made a field with a tree and house for myself, and imagined myself as a pony.”
>Byy now Gear is idly chewing on his cereal.
>He looks up to you a few times, so at least he’s paying some attention.
“As nice as my dreamscape was, I had noticed that there was something missing. That is when Luna showed up in my dream. She comforted me and… she let me feel. I could feel the grass beneath my hooves and the summer breeze on my fur.”

>The two of you finally make it to her house.
>She unlocks the door and guides you in as she picks up her saddlebags.
>”So I got to thinking. Earth ponies farm stuff all the time, like the Apples down on their farm with their apple trees. So little old me thought ‘I’ll take this fruit seed and plant it in our backyard!’ So I dug up a small patch in a clear spot of our yard without telling my parents. Oh the look on their faces when they saw me watering the little sapling was priceless! But they weren’t angry or anything because they saw that I had a cutie mark on my flank then.”
>Fruit starts wandering with her saddlebags on, picking up a few items every so often and stowing them away.

“Well…”
>You recant your short time in Equestria while still keeping in short.

Lemme offer a suggestion.

If the only logical answer to the prompt is wait, then it's probably not a good prompt. You could just as easily have had Gear just show up so we can get moving and not have to waste a post.
>>
>>27929333

>>27929779
Incidentally, wait for Gear to show up. Maybe ask her to describe taste to us.
>>
>>27929565
>>27929779
And I feel as if I keep saying this, but this CYOA suffers from two problems: poor pacing and what I call the sandbox problem.

First, this cyoa moves pretty slowly. The dream sequence was good since it helped build Zero's character more. That's nice. However, this whole getting ready to adventure segment, in my opinion, is just taking too long. We're 150 posts and 27,000 words in, and I really can't say that much has happened yet. We've met a couple ponies, Choosie disappeared, had a dream with Luna, gotten an adventure from Discord, and are now finally getting ready to leave. That's a really quite long first act.
There was an urgency in Zero's resolve to get Choosie back, but it kind of stalled when it came to the communicator. This would have been better if there was stuff for us to do around Ponyville, maybe help some background ponies with problems to gain their friendship, or something, but all we've done is read to pass the time.

Transitioning to my next point, you drop us in a sandbox and tell us to go play, but the problem is that so far, we haven't had much direction at all in Ponyville. We don't know what to do for the most part because you haven't really shown us what there is we can do.
Give us direction, give us decisions to make, problems to solve. There's simply too many dead posts where basically nothing happens.

While we're at it, let's analyze your prompts.
>>27927369
Is fine. Confirmation prompt which allowed us to go with Fruit.
>>27928060
Also fine. Allowed us to start conversation with her.
>>27928445
Good, opened floor for questions.
>>27929083
On the weak side. The option to ask more questions is on the table, but the prompt has a very obvious answer: "okay," which is why you didn't get many replies.
>>27929333
No real prompt beyond wait, basically wasted post.
>>
>>27931170
>>
>>27929916
>sol doldrums and sandbox hell
>not the most creative person
>prompts
I'm beginning to think this was a bad idea.
>>
>>27932740
I'm sorry if it seemed too hostile and harsh, I didn't mean it at all like that. I think that there's an adventure segment coming up and you can certainly have the quest pick up there.

I think what you've done with Zero's character is good. Robot built for friendship has been growing slowly as the story goes on. I just think we need to make some more difficult decisions, whether that be socially or physically, so we can further grow Zero's character and increase player interest in the story.
>>
>>27933050
Ex: the interaction between Zero, Gear, and Choosie was great. Fantastic character building part, which showed that Zero is stubborn, naive, independent, and fiercely dedicated to his directive.
That's the kind of decision I'm looking for. When characters conflict, they grow because of it.
>>
>>27933050
>I'm sorry if it seemed too hostile and harsh, I didn't mean it at all like that.
Nah I just take criticism badly a lot, even when it's minor.

Also a little fun fact.
My original concept for Gear was a hippogriff, combining both a pony name and the griffon naming convention.

>Time to wait for Gear you suppose.
>While you wait you decide to posit a question to Fruit.
“What is taste like?”
>”Ooh that’s a toughy. It’s always hard to describe something to someone that can’t experience it. Everything tastes unique but can fall into a few categories. Like sweet stuff which tastes really really good but then you can get a tummy ache easily and it stops being good. And then some ponies like spicy stuff which is like this hot, burning taste and can actually get to be really painful.”
>Oh look Gear is coming up from the distance who would have thought.
>”Alright so it looks like we’re ready to go. Did you have any direction in mind?”

Let's just hope we aren't shooting lasers and casting shields in the real world all willy nilly like. Last thing we need is to be thrown off the train and given a bad rep.
