Anon, the objective is to get them interested in fandom works, not bore them. FiW comes off as trying way to hard to be funny, and the ebin s1 memes like Appul and Dash should switch elements will just alienate a newcomer even more. The songs are pretty great though. So OP should show them How Applejack Won the War, but avoid the abridged series like the plague.

The FiW series has made alot of people happy. I'm sure it would make the newcomer happy as well. But hey, I'm just saying.

Only things worthwhile are pony anthologies which make for a series of sometimes fun clips and rainbow dash presents which shows humor in the terrible seriousness in fan fiction.

I'll throw my ten cents in. Show them Turn About Storm. Once you get past the first two episodes the quility really improves. If that's too slow try JakeWhyman or CrownedPrince. If they have the attention span and humor of a three year old try God burns down Equestria for Insurance money.

Assuming the certain somebody is already familiar with the show, go for the abridged series. The first Ponies The Anthology, show him some danfango/dikekike/others YTP if he's into that. Also RDP but since you got MAS already there I'd say you already know about it anyway. Watch some good PMVs.
