Even pinkie's most extreme,wide smiles from the show had some clear form and emotion. There are muscles in the face that react to such a wide grin and when those forms are missing its very uncanny and unclear.

To be honest, I started here myself. Drawing anime faces with straight-on bodies, hiding feet and hands because I couldn't draw them well.
Drawing porn and learning one body part at a time is where I went next. I like asses, a lot, so I drew asses. Learned how to draw the lower torso and upper thighs and the vag/asshole until I felt good about it. Then I drew those things at different angles, Then I zoomed out a bit, including the breasts and upper arms or just the hands/fingers.

You get where I'm heading. I'm not exactly the best artist in the world, but I feel like I've made lots of progress. I was gonna attach some of my old weeaboo stuff, but I forgot where it was saved on my computer. I was literally doing the exact same things you're doing now like a year ago.
Learn how to study objects and how to apply them to future drawings. You're in 2D now, but with a few learned principles, you can easily switch to giving things form and perspective.

I could guide you to some good advice on where to start, but for a TL;DR: draw what you like, draw it differently each time and fail at it. You learn what not to do and apply it to your next pic.

your sketch makes it very clear you're drawing nothing but outlines to shapes you think you know

there's no evidence of laying in any underlying structures, such as proportion guidelines and skeleton and at your level you should abso-fucking-lutely be using them

you study anatomy so your brain learns how anatomy works, that's the whole point, whatever you learn from RL anatomy, say, where the ear is located and how to figure its placement on a skull from other features--you can use that for any fucking style you want, your brain knows where human ears should be now and it will tell you you're screwing up if you're about to draw them on the cheek

in theory you could study anatomy without ever drawing realistic figures/skeletons/anything just by looking at pictures and imagining/doodling the structures and connections that are there

but in practise the brain is a lazy bitch and the only way to check if it's learned anything you've been trying to teach it is by drawing a figure from memory without refs, then comparing it to reference or getting it /ic/'d

for a beginner I wouldn't recommend trying to get all of the body at the same time--just pick a part or two you feel like needs the improvement the most, and focus on that for a while, draw what you want, apply what you learn to what you draw, have fun, pick your next target, rinse, repeat

You'll improve with your art as you post! Both are great sites for art so it's up to you. But beware, Tumblr is very addicting. Anyway, it's not that the anatomy is bad (Although you really just stole the pose from the OP artist), it's the colors and all the accessory bullshit. Like this is the most Mary-Sue OC I've seen in ages and I see a lot of them.

Okay so basically, you need to observe nature-y shit about highlighting/shading rocks, plants, mountains, trees, and basically anything organic.The only thing I couldn't really help with was the castle because I fucking suck at that crap. The most important advice for any and every artist is this: you need to draw what you see, not what you think you see. Like how do the branches on a tree bend and grow? How do the leaves connect to the branches? You can either observe this online or go outside and look around you.

Clouds are really difficult, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't try to draw them, of course.

so, how do i draw dead grass and old soil?
since the sun is blocked, do i still use warmer colors for the lighter areas? or do i just use the light coming from the rest of the sky, that being a colder hue.

Hint for dead grass: look for photos of early spring, from areas that get legit snow during winter. Autumn grass will be way too vivid. Hues will be similar to bone and ash.

The same way I said before - google image search for it and draw what you see, not what you think you see. Although this is something I personally do not do (because I think mixing your own colors helps you learn color theory so much better), If you're having trouble, you could also use the eye dropper tool on different areas in the dead grass. And whatever you do, absolutely do not use that shitty "grass brush" Photoshop has.

This is a great question! As you can see, I have quickly just changed the saturation and hue to a less saturated and cooler tone. With an overcast sky, the highlights and shadows will be cooler colors

You are never ever too good to be past this "phase" because it's not a phase, it's a rule of drawing in general. If I tell someone to "draw what they see" it's because they aren't doing it and neither are you. If you were, you'd notice that hills and grass don't work like that or you'd use a reference (a photo reference, not a gallery of other people's art) and actually study the anatomy of plants, mountains, rocks, etc.

I've been drawing seriously for almost 20 years myself and there's still plenty for me to learn too and that's a great thing. Learning new ways or mediums to draw is fun and you should never just stay comfortable, for lack of a better word, because you won't get better.

I don't mean to come off so blunt, but it's just how I do. If you're still having trouble, I will still help you though. As long as you (or anyone else) needs help, have a good attitude about it, and want to learn, I will always help.

Oh ok. Her name is Tri Tip. SHe was born into butchery by her father, who named her after his favorite cut of meat. Although she didn't like butching at first, she grew to love it.
