pretty much spot on but the mods made for the combat are actually really good, like adding in modules that can allow ships to attack from only max range, strike craft attack from longer range and so on

Depends on what xenos you encounter, I have a tendency to find almost only xenophobic empires so I can't really get diplomacy done much

true but again, mods can fix them and the devs already announced more fixes for sectors among other things.

Overall, good fun game and would look forward to a good pony mod

They more than likely are just memes. I guess the story can be seen as a bit more left-leaning and all, but I don't recall it being that bad. Then again my memory is blurry.

I think a pony mod is entirely possible, though. I do remember someone did in fact mod it, although it was only to change the cows for a anthro Flutterbutter and Penko.
