You're implying that a graphics tablet will make you a better artist. Tablets are just another tool that you use. You still have to put in the work and drawing time to get good. If you can't afford a tablet then pencil and paper is just fine. I waited a year and a half or so before purchasing a tablet. I still use pen/paper because it has its own feel and quality to it and I'm faster than I am with a tablet.

My advice is what I tell everyone: Draw a lot and use reference. Start with the guides in the second post of this thread. Drawing is a skill that takes time to hone. Be patient with it.

1) it's /ic/ when you're asking for feedback on draw

2) judging by your handwriting, you wield your pencil like a hammer--don't even try to think about drawing tablets before you can tickle the paper with an HB and barely leave a mark

3) chickenscratches--you need cleaner lines regardless or medium and even for sketches, so get to the habit of drawing long flowing lines moving your whole arm from the elbow, not scratching back and forth with your fingers and wrist

4) not gonna lie anon, your sense of proportion is quite a deal better than some established drawfags--you'll do a fine drawfag someday

5) for now the best thing you can do is work on your pencil handling--learn a light easy grip, it'll save you world of physical pain and make drawing that much easier--you'll also be able to hand it nimbler--scribble and doodle anything, whatever, abstract or whatever, trace forms, just keep your grip light, make long lines and curved lines, remember to use your wrist and arm for lines--and don't press the pencil into the paper, let it slide on it

6) work this on writing too -- don't think of it as writing but drawing the shapes of the letters without any hurry, go light and steady

7) it will feel weird and possibly stupid and maybe hard for a while, your lines may jump, it's all par for the course, you need to tune those draw muscles

8) come back with a new draw when you've got a hold of this and lighter sketch lines to show and we'll continue from there

9) it's okay to draw pone, but don't take any pressure about it and don't forget to do the less interesting exercises too

10) recommended approach to pone: grid copying, non-grid copying with the model picture upside down, tracing prints (for practising lines)

I'm not that anon, but definitely take his advice.
One simple rule is to draw more and more.

For a while, all I would draw were ponies since those are what I started drawing with. I worked mostly on a tablet. Last January, I started practicing human shapes on paper since I think it's easier on paper.
Here's a bit of before and after from me with just a few months practice. (Hands are still difficult.)

I've kept a habit of drawing something every day, and you should too.

This really stood out to me. I think you're doing these things for the wrong reasons. We all want to be validated but at the end of the day in order for you to be successful at anything there has to be a passion behind it. Personally, I want to evoke emotions in others with my art. I want to feel as if the viewer can reach in and touch the pony. I want to make them laugh and cry.

It really sounds like you're in it for the attention. While you may be successful if you just keep at it prepare for your ego to be rattled along the way. My only hope is that it humbles you in the long run.

Thanks for the guidelines, and Since I don't have a tablet yet I won't have very good quality work to show off, although I am drawing every day just to practice and become more efficient at what I have always wanted to do. And that is to become a drawfag for FR and etc. threads.

Thanks for the support overall, I just started ~7 days ago, and the community, tutorials and reference pictures overall make my drawing experience a lot better.

Oh, and as a side note, have you ever tried fuffilling /r/'s, but not sharing them? It's really good practice if you're out of ideas, although 2/3rds of the requests are NSFW/Lewd, and i'm not really of a clopper myself, so it might be wierd, but it might be a future work that I might be interested in ~3 months from now, or however long it takes me to be a DECENT drawfag.

I typically get a lighter sketch down, and bear down harder for the lines I want to keep final. If I like it, I scan it, and ink and color on my tablet. I have better drawing tools, but I like using my 0.5mm mechanical pencil.

Most drawfags don't really want to draw OCs. They just want to draw the same old characters doing stuff for practice. That's why BracesAnon gets so many requests because his are simple. And that's why there are so many /r/'s, but so few /d/'s. Request something simple with established characters, and you're more likely to have it drawn.

If you want your OC drawn, I would recommend commissioning an artist you like.
