OP here, both the anons you replied to have good points. I do have a plan for adding more content, and I've been working for a while now on the necessary infrastructure, though it will still take a while (2-3 months) before you all start seeing real results.

The general idea is to have multiple levels of progression in several areas:
> crafting materials: copper -> iron -> steel -> tribal T1 -> tribal T2; various enchanted stone, crystal, wood (haven't fully planned those out yet)
> village infrastructure: multiple tiers of wards, teleporters, energy regen devices
> location: higher-level areas of the map give bonuses and have more rare materials, but are harder to survive
You start at spawn (the lowest level area), and expand toward higher level areas. Gather materials -> build better infrastructure -> infrastructure lets you survive higher level area -> higher level area has the next tier of materials. Plus of course higher level materials should let you build new decorative items for your house/village.

Aside from the actual content (graphics, stats, etc. for all the new items and such), this plan requires a bunch of new features in the code: player health/energy tracking, item quality & durability, overlapping individual and village wards (plus UI dialogs for adjusting ward shape and permissions), region power level tracking in terrain gen, hostile forest activity, etc. All this code takes time to write.

Basically, the plan is to add ghosts that show up in the forest at night and attack you. You can't fight them directly, but they will avoid brightly-lit areas (and wards). That way the forest will actually be somewhat dangerous, and also it will prevent people from running directly from spawn to +1,000,000 (you'll have to set up a series of lesser outposts along the way where you can rest and resupply).

Earth ponies already get a bonus to crop growth speed. After I add the energy system, I plan to change this to a toggleable buff (while active, planting each crop consumes 3 energy, but the crop grows 33% faster), which should make the difference more obvious.

Other types of equipment are more complicated, since you have to draw a separate version for every frame of every animation.
