Imho. Now there's just way too many races in the game, and the rolling system has been made extremely more RNGesus heavy for no reason. The old rolling system wasn't bad, it just needed to be tweaked a little. This fixes NOTHING and only makes it worse.

Some ideas I came up while I was asleep was that there might be an island in the middle of the lake that has a small wooded area in it, however it's got some spooky legends about it that we dont know about. The ponies across the lake however just might.

Way I have written the story so far is that the people are grim, but the lands around it are rather bright. Essentially there is oppertunity for wonderous sights and things to be seen, but the country we live in, the people here are kinda dicks, that being said recent overtures of friendship in the capital have begun to take root. But for now our chances of seeing that enlightened rule are minor at best.

tldr: The government is kinda shit and mean, the prince is nice to use, the princess is wanting glory and war mongering. The area can be dark in places but most of it is exploring around and finding new things tier.

That would work more for a central capital idea but from what we can see in the show is that the griffins prefer mountains and stonework with large airy structures implying either really thick furs or the fires run hot in the mountain tops

Far left X or far right X would be most interesting, especially if right's mountains can be climbed or the pony village has a tunnel or path through it. That way we can be encouraged to try diplomacy with them or eventually build up town relations.
Without a river it will be very difficult to travel far though. Trading will have to be very important because of the scarcity.

Of all the races listed there, it's the only one with literally no real info beyond 'they pulled Luna's cart'. No matter wehat you try, the "Batpony" established noncanon wise by a lot of people will leak in. Fangs, blood/mango shit, nocturnal, echolocation, etc.

So what I've come up with in regards to lore is this:
Before it became the piece of trash it was, Ravenscar was actually a fairly known town among the locals. Now, the town population is quite small, due to it being situated in a magical yet perilous forest known as Wyrdward Wood.
However, there is a legend spoken among the people about a treasure of great power hidden somewhere in the enchanted forest, something that would grant its possessor the power to become a mighty king. Clues to its existence and location were found in the secret writings of King Gerrant V, the wealthiest king of Gryphonia, by a scribe.
Pilgrims and explorers alike used to frequent the town as a base camp before setting out into the Wyrdward Woods in search of the fabled treasure. Many adventurers find nothing but aches, scars, and another tale for the local bar to stock up on. Some don't make it to town and are claimed by the strange forces that govern the forest.
One day, an unknown adventurer set events in motion for the eventual abandonment and desolation of the town. Nobody knows whether they uncovered a magical artifact that was beyond their ability to control, or ventured into the bowels of the Wyrdward Woods and made an ill-advised pact with one of its spirits, or unknowingly freed an evil unicorn mage, imprisoned in one of the many surrounding ruins for his crimes against the nation. Yes exactly there. I really should have just circled it.
I think it makes the territory varied enough to still be interesting but also not completely close off prompts to any writers. The river and the station being within reasonable traveling distance, if well supplied, opens up a lot of exploration avenues. Staying confined in our town area can also be possible depending on weather conditions or other things keeping us trapped.

Part of the duty of the Soldiers assigned to Ravenscar is to explore the Wyrdward Woods and surrounding area.

They do not want to do this. So they bestow the 'opportunity' to the refugees, most of whom are young, able bodied, and easily bribed with the offer of more perks.

Martial training is usually easy to get, as many skilled Soldiers are around. They will take the chance to take out their frustration on you under the guise of tutelage.

Magical training, on the other hoof, is much more regulated, despite its necessity. Books and material components are held by the Arsenal, a locked and supervised train car. Catalysts provided for non-Unicorns take the form of a gonne, where the materials are loaded and aimed. Most magicks provided by the Gryphon's are offensive, as befits their nature. [spoilers]Basically, the GM controls the spell list, as the Gryphon's won't let you go crazy with magic. The materials are handed out like ammunition, so just having a catalyst is like having an empty handgun.[/spoilers]

Completing jobs and side quests wins the town additional supplies. Sometimes salvaged, sometimes donated by a grateful Noble. This also applies to the Arsenal, as they are able to bargain with home base with some of the spoils for better equipment. There are several organizations in the Gryphon lands who would provide support for the town if their experimental catalysts, spells, and potions are tested out.

Question for everyone here, if we were to do an adventure mode, what type of nasty critters would be out in the woods or in the surrounding area that lives there?

Would there be more from the show or would we have expanded upon creatures to call upon to do battle with?

Would there be strange creatures of mysticism and wonder?

Or dark dangerous entities that only wish us harm?

I'd say make it like Avatar: The Last Airbender (not fucking Legend of Korra), and do a mixture of both. Most spirits that are sentient don't really bother with humans too much and will go about their way leaving you unnoticed, unless you get their attention in somehow. Other sentient spirits are actively malicious towards people, but they are few and far between. The monsters would function as the beasts of the land, mostly aggressive due to the nature of the Wyrdward Woods. And when you say dark, nothing edgy. Maybe you can describe a monster that lacks a head, but instead has a giant fanged mouth on its chest. Nothing dumb like blood sacrifices and masks made out of flayed skin.

Well what I was thinking for the dark spirits would be either shapeless masses of darkness that will try to plunge into you and cause you to suffer damage as it drains you of vitality. Either life or just enthusiasm, like a changeling would making you rather listless.

Other things that could spring to mind would be even simple elements of the world that have gone crazy due to something disturbing their rests. So like a forest fire that starts out normal enough, but something has gone wrong causing the fire itself to go wild and unending in it's hunger.

Or even something dark and forboding under the earth to cause it to quake and come alive in fear and agony caused by the unsettling feeling. I dont know throwing things out there.

And the book would be neat to look over if you have a pdf or just throw up some ideas on thread for it too.

It's property of the Lord and Lady, but since it isn't technically on the books, the Arsenal personnel are usually quite willing to give it back if it means you'll bring them even more spoils.

Weapons and gear seem like something that could be traded in. Graciously give them back to the Gryphon's, and they might be willing to send some 'item' in exchange.

Magical stuff should be side quests in themselves. An Alchemy kit might lead to improved potions for the quests, building a magic studies building, being donated to the Gryphon Nobles in exchange for something else, all the way to attracting Scholars who have higher level spells available to the city and open up even more things.

I picture them like the deer from the comics, they keep to themselves and tend to the forest so it doesn't go world munching. There's not many of them, perhaps a small tree-top village at the most but they have a veritable army of treants that blend in so well you'd never notice one of them keeping an eye on you.

If you wander off too far alone the trees will slowly start to herd you back towards the edges of safety. The druids. Just because nobody has ever gotten anything out of them. They don't trade, they don't like people in the forest and they really don't like Gryphons at all. This is good, I was thinking that the way spirits would work is like this, but if something is /wrong/ in the sense something truly horrid has gone on then there would be a larger version of it that uses the smaller ones for additional abilites or attacks. You know like consuming them to be a stronger version of itself or whatever. The names and stuff is actually rather good, I like that. What would water and wind get as well? You could possibly join a town militia to work alongside them, but i doubt they'd let you join something like the regular army. Gryphons feel like the xenophobic kind of proud to me.

I think it was also discussed earlier that the soldiers stationed would be roughly in the same department, regular infantry/air cavalry and a few royal guards for the lord's heirs. Although the majority of the soldiers stationed here are gryphons who could not make it into a more organized division or group, Composed of the sickly, the old and the fools. Those guys are also a lot more lenient towards us, most of them. They wont beat you just because unless you're REFUSING to do your assignment or are stirring up trouble. Although, there is also the slightly more capable, young and proud who find us slightly repulsing that we are in their territory, who just pulled the shortest straw and were stationed here to watch over us... Those guys are almost perennially salty. But also the more likely to give you training, if just for the sake of beating the shit out of you.

Then there's the minority of royal guard, fiercely loyal pretorian elites. But you wont see them much, unless the lords come visit or you go to them, they never leave the heir's side.

Theres probably also a lot of organizers, managers, officers and adminstrators to keep us working actively and not slack off all the time.

Alright guys, I'm going to make a rough draft for lore in a bit and I would like the thread to come to a consensus on the town.

The first idea is that the town is an abandoned settlement in the middle of nowhere. There's nothing but a few abandoned buildings that sit about, mostly covered in moss, their roofs caved in, generally in a state of disrepair.

The other idea is that this is a pre-built town, something small with a few buildings that the locals inhabit; a few houses, a store or two, and a lumber mill.
