Overall about a 6/10. Sunburst/Starlight gets a 9/10, probably could've been better than Amending Fences if it had had an entire episode to shine by itself. Flurry Heart gets 1/10, and that's extremely fucking generous. Pointless character, pointless plot, gave the Mane 6 next to nothing to work with. All it did was give Celestia something to do for once, and that's not exactly groundbreaking

I really loved how she's just a baby now. Still an alicorn baby, but just a baby.
I was fearing the show would go the way of fairly odd parents, with a baby whos only quality is to be op-plz-nerf.
Now the most she can be used for is a plot device and help character development, which is all a baby is good for in a story. It seems the writers understand this. I have cautious faith in our new pony overlords.

I liked it although I found it pretty underwhelming.
Shinning Armor got some pretty funny moments when he was freaking out.
Spike and Starlight shared a good chemistry and actually got me intrigued to see them both again together.
Sunburst was a great character. I am so glad they didn´t make him a jerk to paint Starlight in a good light; he was a good three dimensional character.
The rest of the mane 7(?) were ok, again pushed to the background for Twili- I mean Starlight to shine.
The plot with the baby wasn´t as terrible as I expected although still pretty cliched. Besides, that damn thing was the cause of most of the drama of the episode; it doesn´t really sell well the image of the cute baby when it almost destroyed the Crystal Empire twice.
I also liked that the conclusion of the episode involved Starlight, Twilight, Cadence, Sunburst and such working together. Another example where friendship saves the day in a way that isn´t a laser beam.

My main problem with this episode is that... it feels so average. I wouldn´t be surprised if this premiere started as two different scripts for a 20 minutes episode that they mixed together to make a premmier. Compared to the crisis the rest of premieres dealt with this is just average.
So, while a good episode, I qualify it as "underwhelming".

people keep bitching about the babby alicorns power, but pumpkin cake did the same shit relative to her power level.

it was interesting to see a unicorn who had vast knowledge, but minimal natural talent. i thought that was a fantastic idea in contrast to those born with lots of natural talent.

spike was portrayed the best hes been in a long time, once again taking on the voice of reason role, as well as occasionally being blunt.

it was great to see most characters were given some time to do things this episode. the mane5 not so much.

Yeah the way they talk about "baby magic" makes it sound like it's normal for baby unicorns to have huge amounts of uncontrollable magic. Pretty interesting idea, actually.

I liked the pacing of the first episode. Seemed in the past that part one of season premieres rushed to get everything set up and the plot in motion. Today's part one was like a calm walk through the park and the stakes weren't raised until the end of the first episode.

A lot of people seemed to have enjoyed Starlight/Sunbursts exchanged and while I did too, the resolution itself just felt a bit off.

I sort of feel like Haber just goes along with everything which is why Hasbro seems to like him. I think other writers sort of protest a little bit or try and workaround when they're told to add something but Haber will just go aight das cool because he doesn't really care

Besides being really fucking confused how 7/10 = average in terms of media rating now, I suppose those failing ameriburger school systems are to blame, I found the episode mediocre as a whole. The baby shit we knew was going to be complete ass, so no surprise there, but the interaction between glimglim and NEETpone felt really rushed and due to being rushed was basically amending fences 2.0. However I do hope we see more glimglam in the future, as I genuinely found her interactions in the episode more interesting than twilight's, and it would be good to have a more grounded unicorn protag.
Overall a 5.5/10. Nothing really that interesting happened.

Just seeing how they actually kept Starlight as Twilight's pupil instead of turning her around again or being rejected at first like they did with Discord was good enough for me.

It was quite good , better than expected, i really liked everything that was going on in the background, the baby itself .. well i hope we won't see it again until it develops some kind of understandable intelligence, because as of now it just seemed to fill the expected overpowered nuisance role.

They again found a way to bring in the Hasbro merchandise without getting too annoying and disruptive to the story flow.
All in all a good start of Season 6. looking forward to more Pony.

I liked the glimmer/Sunburst subplot but from my perspective this was just a waste of a double episode.
It pretty much just is two episodes running in parallel, with the baby episode being pretty obnoxious.
I would have preferred if there had been one long, focused storyline, instead of two short, underdeveloped storylines.

She literally could not accept that fact and had to deny it, or else she would have to admit defeat. That Twilight was right and she was wrong. Once she was shown the Ashlands timeline her worldview was 100% destroyed and everything after that was just desperate stubborn rage.

So, about the changeling in the background, is that foreshadowing to the finale? In Slice of Life I took it as just a gag, but this is on the same level of Starlight being seen in the background in that one/two episodes. They never really got rid off the changelings, anyway.
While McFlurry being replaced seems bit too much, changelings infiltrating the empire and then trying to take the heart/the baby could happen, even on Discovery Channel.

She was well meaning, knew when to stay quiet and always tried to help. She was even capable of heling pony Twilight out.
Starlight is far less confident. She´s a nervous wreck and really insecure about most of her decisions. She is also quite snarky at times, and isn´t above tricking her friends for something as simple as procrastination. She also has some deep pent up aggression, such as when she exploded in Sunburst´s face and broke into tears.
So yeah, they are pretty different.

Yeah, at least, it seems that way to me. Sunset had already been a friendship protégé under Celestia, but had forsaken her lessons in pursuit of personal power. When she learned that the power wasn't worth it she became an empathetic underdog working her way back into a good image and a happy life.

Starlight was never really power hungry as much as traumatized and deluded in her efforts, and after being foiled became resentful, seeking vengeance. Now that her worldview has been all but shattered she's starting from the ground up and is a lot more like unicorn Twilight in season 1, though it's unclear how much she values her friendships yet. I think she's still pretty uncertain about it and needs a helping hand.

It's hard to say, they seem pretty similar insofar as we haven't seen very much from Glimmer and she still seems to be in a period of regret.

I kind of feel like Sunset is much more hands on and straightforward than Glimmer though. She seems to be much more of a type-A personality who feels the need to be actively doing something at any given moment. Glimmer seems much more passive and seems to want to stay more on the sidelines when given the option.

Not funny, not clever, not interesting, not action-packed, and not even cute. But not an affront to all senses either.

It's close reliance on the lore made it bearable, I like that they admitted Flurry Heart was unprecedented, even if they didn't address why she is an alicorn.

A complete waste of a two-parter, it would have worked much better as a single episode with just the Sunburst & Starlight plotline, dropping the baby completely. Of course I realize that would never happen, as this is a designated toyetic two-parter.

I'm surprised they actually stuck around with Starlight as a recurring character, I expected S5 finale to be the last we'd see of her. I'm not upset about it, in fact she could be quite an interesting addition. I'm definitely still on the ride, the show or the universe hasn't lost anything, I'm just disappointed this episode was so shit.

7/10 nothing horrible about it, but nothing really noteworthy either, pretty much the standard for the start of a season at this point. I was really worried that they were going to really cram the new babbu in our faces to the point it would be unbearable but so much else was going on the new baby ended up in the background largely. One thing I really didn't like was Luna and Celestia implying that they, like Twilight, became Alicorns rather than having been born that way. Journal of the Two Sisters, which to this point I had regarded as Canon seemed to imply that there was a society of Alicorns at one point that they were a part of, and now their saying there's never been a baby Alicorn? That's mainly a matter of head-canon though. I was also worried how they were going to handle Starlight and was pleasantly surprised. I think the whole Teacher-Student dynamic has a lot of potential. I look forward to see what comes next week.

Been with the series since it started.

I love the new pone. I love that it's entirely shenanigans, that's what I've been wanting for a long time. Not every season starter/ender has to be about an ancient evil introducing a new villain, I like it when it's more character driven and personal. I even like Starlight more than I expected, even though she's been shoved in as a main character since it seems her reformation and getting to know the rest of the cast happened in a montage.
