While she did act somewhat guilty about her previous exploits, it wasn't to the extent that Sunset Shimmer did in RR. Also, Starlight maintained some of her manipulating personality (like with distracting spike).

That's a problem. Only being "somewhat" repentant for nearly destroying the world? Pretty shallow character trait if I'm being honest. Luckily that wasn't the case, she even points out that she was "totally evil" herself. The real problem was time constraints coupled with the focus of the two-parter being spread between three converging plots compared to RR's hour and a half with time to focus on Sunset's guilt, ergo we saw more of that than we did of Glimmer's because time required the plot to keep moving.
