I don't know if you're aware, so I'll give a tad bit of backstory.
Nyx came from Past Sins a fanfic which originally came out before Season 2 but later had a rework to include Season 2 canon.

It was sort of a "what if" scenario, a cult tries to resurrect Nightmare Moon but the spell is interupted causing it to be somewhat unpredictable. The resurrection worked but it became a filly with a strong resemblence to the mare they sought to bring back with seemingly no memories prior to it although she gets brief moments remembering them. The name of the fanfic is also part of the story as it's about how much judgement can you pass down on what someone might do or has done in the past? Her Past Sins, if you will. The vest is to hide her wings to make her look like a unicorn while her glasses are enchanted to disguise the dagger shaped pupils and green-blue tint to what would otherwise be the whites of her eyes.

The headband not even I can say yay or nay for. It's not part of the disguise as it doesn't disguise anything it's just a thing that exists I suppose.
It's a fanfic that is subjective. You either like it or you hate it, some say the characters are well written while others say they're completely out of character. It's a thought experiment of what would you do in those situations? Even if it's not your cup of tea it's a fic you should read once just to say you did.

I think the reason Nyx gravitated here was because she is found by Twilight and taken in by her.

That's all I have for now. Had to "restart" the whole story several times because I wasn't satisfied with how it began.
Anyway... I'm trying to make it feelsy, since I think that's my weakpoint.

I won't get all that focused on the magic. It works like in Warhammer.
They are eight different winds and you weave the spells you want to cast out of them.
Maybe there will be one more scene on how magic works, so is understandable, but that will be it.
The rest will be focused on Trixie, her alcohol problem and Anonfilly.
