TS: I can't really believe your story Anon, buildings with over a 100 levels? Flying boats bigger than Ponyville? And yet there's no magic in your world? Please.
>Growing tired of Twilight's berating, you go out into the world to prove her wrong.

That's the prompt that started it all. So what is thread about? It's about Anon bring human science and inventions to Equestria and a disbelieving Twilight.

As to understand, we're talking small short reports and explanations for some tech and vehicles, as a seeding ground for future projects, that'll be more expanded.

Okay. I'll try try to necromance some ideas and give the first one on Sunday. Maybe even tomorrow?
I have an idea to start explaining the basics and subtle underlines of magic and tech, whilst introducing some machines armour vehicles or weapons. I'd be more than happy if this would seve as writerfaggotry inspiration, or complete source material. I'll be very happy with you people using it.

This is Rise of Nova Rohan 2.0, (I'll probably change the name of the town as well)
It's mostly a rework for the flaws the previous one had, (Anon, Twilight, Moondancer, Mythic Crown, etc.) and no more fucking politics. Enjoy.

>”Anon, I don't want to be the kind of pony who turns a blind eye towards suffering, but I can't really believe your story. Buildings with over a 100 levels? Flying boats bigger than Ponyville? And yet there's no magic in your world? Please…”
"But it's true Twilight, humans don't have any magic whatsoever and yet we achieved plenty of technological advances in a short span of time," you reply to the incredulous mare.
>She giggles at your claim, thinking that you're probably lying.
>"Sure Anon...Tell me one thing though, how are those heavy 'boats' capable of flying if they don't have a balloon attached on them?"
"I already told you, they don't need them...and they're called planes. They are able to fly because of their shape. They have motors, turbines, wheels-"
>Twilight has a hard time trying to contain her laughter.
"What's so funny?"
>"Oh Anon, I'm so sorry. It's just...the thing you're describing is impossible to build without magic, and even if it got built, it'd fall on the ground just because of how heavy it sounds!"
>You grab a book from her shelves and flick through the pages.
"This is nonsensical, you're telling me that Equestrian magic has been the only way you ponies have progressed through history?"
>She proudly nods.
>"All of our tools and technology have been cautiously studied and developed using magic and spells."
"...Then why are they so primitive?"
>"What do you mean?" She asks, feeling insulted.
>You reach for a lamp and open it.
>Lots of fireflies fly out of the glass container.
>"What are you doing?! I needed them to read a couple of books tonight!"
"See? What kind of technology is this? 16th Century's? It's not even made from kerosene!"
>"Kero-what now?"
>Your eyes go wide.

"I'm sorry, but that's completetly irrational...no wonder why Ponyville is so damn small, how can you live like this?"
>"What do you mean? It's completely fine here...magic is a gift given to unicorns, they pretty much run everything here and everywhere else with the exception of weather! That's stuff for pegasi."
"You wouldn't need to live like this if you didn't rely so much on your magic!"
>Twilight scoffs.
>"You're just jealous you can't do a simple spell! Admit it Anon!"
"I'm not jealous Twi, in fact I'm proud my species have done much better than ponies without the need of a crutch called 'magic'," you say pronouncing the last word in a mocking way.
>"Anon...I think you need to leave," Twilight opens the door using her magic, before realizing what she just did.
>You give her a smug grin.
>"If you think you're better than us then you should probably make your own town with those flying boats and metal carriages you keep blabbing about!"
"Oh yeah? If you want me to show you how it's done then it's a deal! And I'll also build a network capable of sending messages without using a little dragon!"
>You walk out the room, and Twilight slams it as hard as she can.

>You're now Twilight Sparkle.
"Pfft...who does he think he is?"
>You totally hate it whenever Anon acts like a jerk towards you.
>How mean!
>But what if...he's actually telling the truth?
>It would be pretty interesting to see such things in Equestria.
>Or maybe he's just bluffing and just wants to mock your magicical abilities.
>He has talked for several months about inventions from his homeworld that actually seem rather useful.
>...
>All of a sudden you got a crazy idea!
>You'll pretend to be mad at Anon and you'll kick him out of the castle!
>It'll either make him want to become independant or humble him up.
>Whichever comes first it'll help him by becoming a better man.
>You'll assign him a task won't refuse.
>If he feels his species are better than ponies he'll have to prove it!

>You’re Anon once again.
>You exit the ugly crystal castle and walk down the ugly crystal steps.
>"Anon!" Twilight calls from above.
>(Heh, she doesn't want you to leave...)
>You turn around and look upwards.
"Yes Tw-OH CRAP!"
>You quickly avoid a box full of stuff and clothes.
"What the-?"
>"If you feel like you can't keep this charade anymore just come back with a well written apology, otherwise don't come near my castle!"
"Y-you're kicking me out?"
>"Yup! Let's see what you can do without magic!"
"W-wait, I've got no money! Can't you-"
>"Figure out how to get out of this mess by using your brain Anon!" She mockingly says.
>Twilight quickly activates a spell around her castle.
>A large pink forcefield blows you away from her.
>"You better find a place where you can rest your head first, if you can't stop talking about how great your world's technology was maybe you should do your part and continue doing what your species did best!"
>Murder?
>Because you feel like strangling that purple cunt right now!
"You can't do this!"
>She just giggles.
>"You'll always be welcome in my castle AFTER you apologize, or when you do something remarkable like building one of those cars you keep babbling about," she says before closing the window she was talking from.
"TWILIGHT! YOU...YOU DOUBLE NI-"
>You hear some gasps, coming from the ponies walking by.
"Fucking hell..." you mutter to yourself as you try to calm down.
>You grab your box full of your belongings and hit the road.
>If that purple twat wants to see some of Earth's technology you'll give her what she wants.
>>
>>26785360

>Ponies superior than humans? Please.
>You grab your box and walk towards Sweet Apple Acres.
>Applejack, you know and befriended her very well.
>She knows a life without magic.
>In fact, she despises it.
>You'll ask her to take you in, and you'll be happy to improve her life without the need of magic.
>You recall they needed some extra strength to rebuild her barn once again because the last one burned down.

>"I'm glad you came sugarcube! We sure need some help rebuilding our barn."
"I love to help Applejack. Where should I start?"
>"You can help Big Mac sawing and nailing those planks together, he'll teach you how you should do it."
"Cool, thanks Applejack!"
>Applejack notices the box full of your stuff.
>"Hold on a sec sugarcube, what's with the box?" She asks while raising an eyebrow.
"Oh this? Well...Twi and I had a fight over something stupid, she thinks I'm a liar because of all the stuff my species have achieved without magic."
>"Really? Like what?"
"You know...fuels that aren't steam or coal, cars and public transport that aren't made of wood, planes that soar the sky and allow people get to point A to B in a short time, stuff like that."
>Applejack pays attention to your words, but doesn't really understand what you are saying.
"In fact, I guess I went overboard telling her that even with magic, their technology wasn't near as good as ours, she got upset, and well...here I am."
>"Hmmm...seems a little bit drastic of her, but you're right Anon, this farm doesn't run on magic schmagic, no sir!"
"Great! I knew there was hard work behind your success Applejack. Also, Twilight dared me to build technology from my world. So I'll give her what she wants."

>Her cheerful spirit lifts yours.
>"But one question sugarcube, how are you going to do it?"
"I have no idea!"
>"...You don't?"
"Patience Applejack, Rome wasn't built in one day. I'll learn some techniques by helping around your farm; well, only if you allow me to do so."
>"Of course sugarcube! You're welcome ta’ stay in mah farm all the time you want!"
"Thanks Applejack, I'll be sure to make my time worth here, now if you excuse me I'll go help out Big Mac with those planks."
>Applejack giggles in a cute way.
>"Good luck Anon!"

>Five hours later.
>You're terribly exhausted.
>But you've finished building the walls of barn with the help of Big Mac.
"So Applejack, what do you think?"
>"It's amazin', simply amazin' sugarcube..."
>You've nailed all the planks together in a nice array, without empty spaces or broken planks.
>"This whole thing takes Big Mac and me two days to build without help, how were you able to nail all the planks together in a short amount of time sugarcube?"
>You look at your hands.
>"Oh, right...well, now it's time to lift the walls and nail them to the main structure."
>Big Mac sighs.

>"I know Mac, lifting the walls is very tiresome but we have to get it done, after all thanks to Anon's help we're almost done!"
>"Eeeyup," Big Mac says as he grabs a very thick rope with his teeth and throws it over the structure, making sure one end of the rope is tied to the wall.
>"Why don't 'cha rest a bit Anon, we got this part covered." Applejack says with a wink.
"Thanks Applejack..."
>Applejack reaches for the rope with her teeth and helps Big Mac lift the first wall.
>"1...2...3!"
>They both start pulling the rope using their teeth.
>"C-come...on! Pull...HARDER!" Applejack babbles.
>You've heard of Horse Power before, but this is ridiculous.
>You notice some smoke coming from the thick rope.
>That's not good.
>Lots of friction on one point will lead to disaster, considering how old the rope looks.
"Uh...Mac, AJ? Let go! The rope will snap!"

>You run to them and quickly grab the rope so the three of you can place the wooden wall gently on the ground.
>When it's done, Applejack checks the rope while Big Mac gasps.
>"Whoa, you were right Anon. How did ya know such thing was going to happen?"
"Well, simply because the rope isn't going through a pulley, also it's pretty old AJ."
>"A pulley?"
"Yeah, a little wheel that makes things easier to lift. Don't you guys have one?"
>Applejack and Big Mac look at each other.
"Mmm, let me take look around," you say before noticing a rusty wheelbarrow, "Hey, that'll work!"
>You quickly run to the wheelbarrow and bring it in front of Applejack.
>"We'll need this wheel and we'll attach it to the ceiling, then we'll get a rope and place it-" you show the siblings how to make a pulley with the old rope "-like this and tie the other end to the wall."
>Applejack seems confused.
>"Uhh, and how exactly is this going to help?"
"Trust me on this one Applejack."

>That diameter should be good enough to help Big Mac and Applejack lift the wall.
>"Are you sure this will work sugarcube?"
>You nod.
"You'll thank me for this one Applejack."
>They start pulling the rope and the pulley lifts the wall.
>Applejack and Big Mac can't believe how easy lifting the wooden wall is now.
"See? Easy!"
>They finish lifting the first wall and you help them nail it to the structure.
>"Woowhee! That was darn impressive Anon! How did you know that?"
"That? My teacher taught me about pulleys, levers and many other things back when I was in middle school. Hell, I can't believe I actually applied that knowledge today."
>"You know sugarcube...maybe Twilight will be the one that will have to apologize."

87951 words.

>>26761851
Hmm. You're right, I really didn't get into that, did I? I'll try to fit an explanation of that somewhere in the story, but the short answer is sentiment. It's easier to think of it as being 'you' if it's based on your own organs and built using your genome. Anon doesn't wish to stop being himself. Adding attachments such as digital storage doesn't threaten to destroy the underlying self (though it would change it), but replacing what's already there does.

>>26761936
He's already running as many cybernetic enhancements as he can. Alterations to the cells themselves are a good idea which I probably should explore. This would quickly lead to some hard limits that could only be bypassed with an increase in volume, but it's worth thinking about anyway.

>>26762371
Nailed it.

>>26762748
More or less. It's missing several components including emotion and reward centers, so if my understanding of psychology and neurology is at all correct even if it did gain autonomy it wouldn't feel any reason to do anything. I could be wrong. Again, my primary field of study is neither psychology nor neurology. As to why it's illegal, I wasn't clear on that. My bad. It's primarily a moral objection pertaining to the creation of an incomplete human, as well as making what could be argued to be a slave.

>>26771413

>It's about Anon bring human science and inventions to Equestria
how heretical
>>
>>26796697
>You reach for your rectangle and-
>You didn’t bring it.
>You forgot the only means of communication you had with the visitor!
>How could you be so stupid?
>One of the most amazing machines ever held by dragon kind and you forget to-
>You’re sitting next to one.
>Apparently he had spares.
>Which suggests to you that they aren’t that difficult to make.
>For him, at least.
>You pick it up.

“Everything seems to be in fine order.”

>”Very well. I still wish to run some tests as self assessment is incredibly unreliable. Though it is possible that doesn’t hold true for your kind, I think it likely that it does.”

>It does.
>But there’s usually no way around it.
>What he’s proposing is that he can tell how you’re feeling better than you can.
>It wouldn’t surprise you if that were true.

>”I’ve found a few locations that seem to have anomalously high background magical energy. Is there anything you can tell me about these locations?”

>Below the text you see seven aerial views of various locations.

“Number 3 is Canterlot, the capitol of our nation. Number 4 is the Crystal Empire, a protectorate of our nation. Number 7 is the Everfree forest. I’m unfamiliar with the rest, though number 2 appears to be minotaur lands.”

>Their ridiculous labyrinthian cities are recognizable anywhere.
>Nobody else would have walls forming a maze like that.
>Though you do find it strange that they’d build one on the surface.
>They tend to prefer subterranean construction.
>The rest you can make no guess at.
>They all appear to be wilderness.

“Canterlot is built on a massive gem deposit known as the crystal caverns. That is likely what you are detecting. The crystal empire, in addition to being made mostly of crystals, is home to a potent magical artifact. And the Everfree forest contains six known potent artifacts, though it is likely that you’d be finding strong magic there even if they were removed.”

>”Please elaborate.”
>>
>>26796704
“Everfree is full of strong, wild magics. Nobody knows why, and few are brave enough to enter it for study. We don’t go there unless we have to.”

>”Would a tissue sample in one of these places have enough magic to grow properly?”

“Maybe? I doubt it. None of those places would have the right kind of magic. You’d need anima, life magic.”

>”Are the different kinds of magic different forces, or different manifestations of the same force?”

>You don’t know.
>Sure, you THINK they’re the same force.
>But you don’t KNOW it.
>You haven’t even gotten to his camp, and he’s already asking questions you can’t answer.
>This doesn’t bode well.

>You are Luna.
>You are shivering.
>It isn’t cold, and even if it were, you’ve never been bothered by the cold.
>No, you’re nervous.
>The train ride has come to an end, and you are being told to disembark.
>Twilight’s approach to you has softened somewhat.
>When she was fully convinced that you chose to sever your own horn, that it wasn’t an accident or injury, she calmed somewhat.
>It’s completely rational that she would.
>Twilight’s a smart mare, she understands why you did it.
>She knows that you are still Luna.
>At least mostly.
>Even you aren’t sure to what degree you are still yourself.
>But you know at least that you are mostly the pony you wish to be.
>That will have to be good enough for the time being.

>”Come on, Luna. Let’s go.”

>Her words are warmer than they were before.
>But they don’t carry the deference you’re used to hearing from her.
>Also, she didn’t use your title.
>Under different circumstances you would appreciate the informality.
>But you can’t help but feel you’ve let her down.
>That you’ve let yourself down.
>>
>>26796708
>”Come, Luna. I know you don’t want to get off the train. I know you’re scared, that you fear they’ll judge you. I wish I could say they wouldn’t, but they might. Hold your cloak tight, come to the royal quarters, and hide if you must. But you need to get off the train.”

>With reluctance, you acquiesce.
>You follow Twilight up through the camp toward the secluded chambers.
>Several ponies crowd around her eager to give reports, but she shoos them off to give you some space.
>Not nearly as many as you would have expected.
>Even with Shining Armor’s forces having retreated, the camp seems too empty.
>After sealing yourself in the darkened room, Twilight starts to speak.

>”So, I wanted to go over this in more detail on the trip here, but we got talking about you and princess Celestia.”

>Celestia still gets her title.
>You find that interesting.
>She’s fallen further than you, of that you’ve little doubt.
>Perhaps Twilight will reassess her opinion once she finds her?
>You’re uncertain.

>”Spike says the ape is not of this world.”

“What.”

>Surely she jests.
>You’ve explored vast expanses of the cosmos and not found another world.

“Perhaps you mean another timeline, or another dimension?”

>”No, another world. He was quite adamant about that. I know it sounds absurd but he was surprisingly detailed in his accounts. I think I believe him.”

“But how would it get here?”

>”I don’t know.”

“And why did it come here?”

>”To study us, or so I’ve been told. I don’t think I trust it. On the other hoof, it hasn’t been taking us seriously. Shining Armor and Spike both agree that if it wanted to do us harm, there’s nothing we could do to stop it.”

“So you suggest we surrender and let it do as it wishes?”

>”I’m suggesting we tread carefully. If they’re right we can’t afford to anger it!”
>>
>>26796715
“We need some form of assurance. Some way to know for certain if it means us harm. Fetch the young drake, I wish to speak with him.”

>”I’m pretty sure he went back to the ape’s camp for maintenance.”

>Maintenance?
>You are Anonymous.
>You are prepared.
>Your first lesson plan is simple.
>You intend to focus on establishing a baseline for how much Lizard Bro already knows.
>You suspect very little.
>He’s stepping out of your APC now.
>Built specifically to protect him in case of another ill guided attempt on your life.
>You’re still keeping the two of you in separate camps to avoid any possible ill effects from the strange energy.
>You’re also not throwing away the opportunity to test for these dangers like you did last time.
>You’re pretty sure that the ambient energy of this world is harmless to you.
>And you exposed some tissue cultures to the charged gems.
>But the fact that the living beings purportedly have a different kind does open the door to some danger.
>Which is why he’ll be next to a few of your own tissue cultures during his visit.

“Before we begin, I’d like to get some idea of what you do and do not know. Based on the books I’ve read thus far, we’ve a lot of ground to cover. Calculate the exact area beneath this curve.”

>You draw a squiggly line across a simple two dimensional graph on the holographic display you’ve arranged before him.
>He answers almost immediately.

>”I’m pretty sure nobody around here can do that.”

>Remedial mathematics then.

“Name the components of an atom.”

>”Aren’t atoms the smallest thing there is?”

>You were hoping he’d get down to the bosons.
>This is troublesome.

“Under what conditions may the available energy of a closed system increase?”

>”Never. All changes to a closed system will result in a decrease in available energy.”
>>
>>26796718
“Correct.”

>That’s a relief.
>You were starting to worry that you’d have to explain EVERYTHING.
>That would have been a pain.

>”Really? Twilight’s going to be so excited to hear that! She proposed that just last year when she was studying arcane energy flow in non-biological organic materials!”

>Just last year?
>They didn’t know that until LAST YEAR.
>You’re starting to get an idea of how learned they are.
>There are more questions to ask, more details to glean.
>But you can at least start preparing a lesson plan.

“What is it you are hoping to gain from this?”

>”Significance. I could say that learning is its own reward, but the truth of the matter is that hardly anypony cares who I am, or what I do. The few that do care are so amazing, they’re national heroines several times over. But me? I’m just a national hero once over. When I’m not in the Crystal Empire, everypony thinks of me as Twilight’s annoying servant.”

“You were the first to speak with me, and you averted a potential battle between myself and Equestria. Is that not enough?”

>”No. Again, it’s not ME who’s special. All I did was interact with somebody else who IS. I need to matter. I don’t know how else to explain it, but I feel like a background character in my own life. Like I’m surrounded by amazing ponies, and I’m nothing.”

>To your surprise, you’re quite sympathetic to the young reptile.
>Sure, his background and yours vary vastly.
>But you share that same problem.
>Your troubles stem from being one in quadrillions of other humans, with billions of people being better than you no matter how great you become.
>He is close to big shots, and can’t measure up.
>Learning won’t solve his woes.
>He needs to be able to DO something special.
>You’ll design his education with this in mind.
>Maybe lead him to some kind of relatively simple ‘invention’.
>Nothing too groundbreaking of course.
>>
>>26796722
>And definitely nothing that could be turned around and used against you.
>But something that will wow the natives.
>You’re not entirely sure why you’re doing this for him.
>You really shouldn’t.
>Perhaps it’s because he’s the nicest living thing for several lightyears in any direction, and you wish to reward his decency.
>Perhaps it’s pity for this planet’s inhabitants, forced to toil in the mud.
>Perhaps it’s simply a peace offering so that you might not be attacked constantly.
>There are many valid reasons.
>You’re unsure which one, if any, applies.
>You’ll arrange a few lessons to get him started and send him on his way with a portable computer to teach him.
>But while he’s here, you might as well try and get a bit more information.

“I’ve noticed several peculiar things about this world. Perhaps you could explain some of them to me?”

>”I can try, but I likely won’t see them as strange.”

>He has a point.
>With nothing to compare it to, this planet would seem perfectly normal.
>It’s worth a try anyway.

“The genetic sequences, that is to say the chemical combinations that dictate what form living creatures will take, are far too ‘clean’ for lack of a better word. Everything that I’ve checked has no third party information from a form of cellular hijacker which you don’t seem to have a word for, there appear to be no conflicting instructions, and everything is laid out in a straightforward and easy to understand manner. There are a few aberrations here and there, but overwhelmingly it looks un-natural. Can you explain this?”

>You’ll get back to him on that.

“There is a stunning lack of foreign matter in this star system. In all honesty I’m surprised you even have a word for meteorite given how little material there is around here. When worlds form they tend to leave SOME material out of the process. Where did it go?”

>Again, he offers only a look of confusion.
>>
>>26796724
“The abundance of uranium I’ve been finding relative to the low amounts of lead suggests a very young world. How old is it?”

>That only covers half the question.
>Why is all the uranium so deep?
>All the radioactive materials were exceptionally elusive at first, only appearing when you got to deep crust mining.
>Nearly two kilometers down you started finding signs of them.
>Of course, that was after you no longer needed them.
>But now that you’re finding them, all the different radioactive materials suggest that the planet’s only…

>”Legends say that the titans first made this world ten thousand years ago.”

>About ten thousand years old...

>”But that’s just a legend. I have no idea.”

>Reliant on a strange source of energy that seems unique to this system.
>An ecosystem that defies all rational forms of taxonomy.
>A wide variety of species that show signs of genetic alteration.
>A star system that doesn’t appear to have formed naturally.
>A young planet covered in intelligent life.
>Dangerous materials stored deep below the surface rather than strewn about naturally.
>A creation myth that syncs up with actual facts.
>You’re reluctant to say it.
>But the legend might be true.
>This planet might have been seeded.

That's it.

I hate this update. 0/10 material right here. I spent several hours trying to improve it, but everything I did made it worse. The choice was to either live up to my name, or to press on and post it anyway, in hopes that future posts won't suck. Hopefully others find it more enjoyable than I do. There have been other occasions where I was my own harshest critic, maybe we'll be lucky and this is another one of them.

It's because they have "unicorn magic" the ponies in Equestria are stuck in the past.

Traditionalism. Beliefs. Patriachy. Subordination to the randomness of nature, and counter progressive ideologies makes Equestria, and de facto the old monarchies the least developed countries.
They're even afraid of electricity, and the poor unicorns gets headaches around radiofrequencies!

And you, Anon, you call this place an utopia.

Seconding this. He is pretty much the most powerful force in this area now, at least in open combat. In order for anything to pose a significant threat to him now, it has to be non-pony force/not mortal, or rely on some form of subtlety. There might be forces in Tartarus, or higher beings than the Royal sisters to call on.Aliens or demons might be interesting to fight, but I get the feeling that WiK might be phasing out combat as the focus of the story.

>and you have spent what felt like the last hour strapped to a chair, with your hands in what appear to be iron oven mitts.
>meanwhile Twilight has been marching about the lab, muttering under her breath and checking some kind of crystal contraption wired up to your anti-fap gloves
>"No reaction to the Malemite, nor on the Tristainite, or the Zuronite, and nothing triggering the dampers-"
>she trots over to your paper airplane, laying on the table with some suction-cup thing on one of the wings, and resumes examining it
>your fingers have been itching like crazy. You've tried getting her attention but she was too absorbed in her instruments before
>can't hurt to try again
"Twlight."
>"...seems to be normal parchment paper, no residual magical energies detected in the fibers..."
"Twilight!"
>"...scan fifteen still shows up nothing, but there was definite influence..."
"HEY!"

>Twilight looks back at you and scrunches her muzzle
>"Anonymous, please remain calm. After I've examined your parchment construct, we can resume testing for your latent magical aura."
>parchment what-now?
"Twilight, I've been trying to tell you, it's not magic. It's just a paper airplane."
>it's her turn to look confused
>"Airplane? Anon, I've told you, there's no way something that can carry hundreds of ponies and fly across a country in an hour without using magic exist"
"And I've told you that that's what it is. No magic needed."
>Twilight shifts her gaze between you and the paper airplane on the table.
>"And this..."airplane" flies with no magic at all? I seriously doubt that, Anon."
>you wiggle the iron gloves locked on your increasingly itching fingers
"If you take these off of me, I can show you."

>just as you're readying to throw, you notice something
>a few somethings actually
"Twilight, did you try to dissect my paper airplane?"
>there are little nicks and cuts all over the paper airplane
>Twilight raises an eyebrow
>"Well, I did have to check for any trapped magical residue in the fibers."
"Twilight, the airplane doesn't work if it's cut full of holes. Do you have another sheet of paper?"
>Another scrunch from Twiggles, but she takes out a piece of parchment from one of her clipboards and hoofs it over
>a bit smaller and with some ink bleed, but it's workable.
>You fold the parchment into another paper airplane
>all the while, Twilight is both feverishly scribbling on her clipboard and shooting glances at the stubbornly dim crystal gadget
>based on her facial expression, she's not liking what she's seeing
>after a few folds, you hold it up for Twilight to see.
>She quickly gives it a few passes with some kind of handheld crystal doohickey
>"...no residue detected, no changes in composition..."
>it sounds like her mutterings are getting more strained
>after another round of furious scribbling, she huffs and gives you the nod.
>"Whenever you're ready, Anonymous."
>you cock your arm back again

>slowly
>slowly
>slowly noses into the empty wastebasket
>nailed it
>although now you kinds wish you hadn't.

>With a sounds like a thunderclap and a bubblegum bubble pop, Twilight teleported across the room, fishing out the paper airplane from the wastebasket
>she's tumbling it in her magic grip, waving the crystal scanner across it like some kind of hyperactive wizard, babbling under her breath while taking more notes
>with another thunder-pop she's hoofing through the parchment print-outs of the gadget you're hooked up to.
>"No, no, no no no no no no no no no-"
>her voice is getting more and more panicked as the parchment readouts go flying
"Uh... Twilight?"
>"No no no no no no NO NO NO NO NO"
>Twilight continues to drive herself completely nuts over all of the paper outputs reading a flat zero
>"BUT HOW?! No crystal readings, no change in parchment composition, no aura or residue detected! How?! HOW?! It's not possible, but I JUST SAW IT!"
>TwilightSparkle.exe has crashed
>Well then, now might be a good time to get out of here
>you slowly reach up to the suction cup on your forehead
>suddenly everything tints purple as you're forcibly sat down
>Twilight appears inches from your face, her pupils pinpricks and strands of her hair starting to come loose
>"NO! YOU! Stay. Right there."
>she returns to the middle of the lab, poring over the readouts, hyperventilating
>meanwhile you sit there like the host of a thanksgiving gone horribly wrong.

>She's apparently trying to not look directly at it
"See, when air moves fast over a big flat area, like a wing, it creates a pressure difference, and this causes something called lift."
>taking the parchment in both hands, you hold one end to your mouth, the other end flopping over

I've got a question, LP; I just binged your entire Nova Rohan Story, and I think its fantastic, but I have a question; can you redpill me on the politics of Nova Rohan, it seem's like capitalism as there are independent businesses (Rararara wanting to start a boutique, fithy rich, factories) but communism as there's a huge govt labor force... but it seem's that you kept trying to show what would happen if someone had gotten communism to work properly. but its all muddled and I cant understand your implications, can you help? also, the way anon makes his gov it seems that there will one day be a glorious revolution followed by a new govt; just my headcannon, (completely disregardable) but, I still want to know what you were going for when you wrote nova rohan's politics. as a /his/ buff I really like seeing how cities (fictional, mostly) tic. and comparing them with history here.

So what would you guys think of a FFX type of theme where in ancient Equestria there was the both a "Zanarkand" and a "Bevelle" where Bevelle was the pre-cursor to the modern Equestria we all know which held fast to old beliefs in the so called "beauty of the differences of the races." while the Zanarkand was a civilization that believed in "advancement for the betterment of all" fell to legend. Then either some pony or anon comes into the fray who is from Zanarkand and they don't they go through a whole Tidus story, except without the bullshit, "I'm not real." schtick.

Sure, I assumed ponies were better than humans at following orders and getting along with each other, so Anon took advantage of the situation and lead the ponies however he wanted, always interested in their well-being in the first place. You could create a culture of innovation with a whole town dedicated to inventing.

Then again, you could do that in Ponyville too.
>>

Even if you did, you wouldnt be the one building and running the town.

similarly, ponyville is out in the middle of nowhere with an eccentric ruler who can and pretty much has given you a decree to prove yourself. it's the perfect place to set up shop.

>"do you have magic? Anon?"
>you think for a moment about the card tricks pulled on you
>no, Equestrian Magic is different, more like… electricity back home.
You think for a moment more before you say "in a way. I suppose- but it wasn't magic, it had a different name, and was completely disclosed. Instead of being a force we haven't discovered yet, it was a force we added onto"
>you started picking up steam
"we were able to look at a desert, and think; 'this… this is where the life's gonna be'."
"we were able to look at blue clay, and see potential. And that’s the key word, twilight- potential."
"humans, have potential like no other… people were able to make large machines that could carry all of ponyville over 600 miles in one /hour/"
"or make these 'cloud-steaking' 100 story buildings with no. problem. No magic. Just… well… potential"

"GRAVITY!"
>you shout, bolting upright, as if you had discovered a new element.
>twilight is obviously scared. But then her fright turns to humor"
>"whats gravity, anon?" she says between chuckles as you prance around like a fairy.
>you slightly calm down, with the first real smile in a while on your face, breaking you out of the shitposting doldrums that was brought on by twilight in the first place.
>you clear your thoughts, align them; and look at the quizzical princess in her eyes and say
"I know how to prove me right"
>on the way into the castle you inquire to twilight about the systems of measurement used in equestria
>"well… there's the celestial and the lunal" she says

>"SPIKE!" she screams, before adding "COULD YOU BRING THE MEASURMENT KIT PLEASE?"
>in about 2 minutes you see spike coming down the steps from the castle's storage room, toting a box that’s clearly too large for him
>he approaches the table, and sets the box on the "gryohonstone" area of the map
>she looks in the box, and pulls out a ruler, about one inch wide and 12 inches long, and passes it too you.
>"celestial foot" she says; passing you another one, this time a large foldable ruler, about the size of an empirical yard, but slightly larger.
>"this is the lunar Leg" she says before adding, rather proudly. "the celestial system works in a strange way, 12 eyes per celestial foot, three per celestial leg, and 5280 celestial feet per mile." she bllinks, smiles, and says "the lunar system works a bit more uniformly, 100 eyes per leg. 1000 legs per kiloleg, and so on."
"how many lunar eyes per celestial eye?" you interject
>"two and a half." she clears
>then we have no problem with measurment
"okay. Now we need a weight of about 5 er…"
>"celestial tears, lunar tears" she says
>thinking about how the metric system works, you conclude you need 5000 lunar tears.
"5 eh, lunar kilotears. And 9.8 lunar kilolegs" you decide.
>"okay. Hold on…" she says. "spike, can you get a mat. List going?" she adds on
>"uhh, yeah- yeah hold on twilight." he says, getting a clipboard and parchment
>>
>>26813379
>okay. Now, what next. A way to keep time.
"now, twilight, what do you have in ways of keeping time. My world uses seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, years, decades, and so on"
>"hmm, we have the same system in equestria" she says, amused slightly.
>that clears up a lot. Thank god.
"okay. We need a way to keep time accurately"
>"one magical stopwatch, spike; get the good one for this experiment"
>"alright" spike says, scribbling down on the clipboard
"now what…" you say to yourself.
"Ah! I know-"
>"what?"
"the scientific method!"
>"oh, that sounds cool" spike says, like a real bimbo.
>spike + bimbo = Amusing.
>fucking mathematics, man
>okay, here we go
>you take a deep breath
"we need a problem, followed by a hypothesis. In essence; how long does it take for a 5 lunar kilotear apple to hit the ground from 9.8 Lunar Legs above? Well, I believe it will take under 1 second to reach the ground! And so on."
>you have her attention
>>
>>26813478
"then procedure, results, data, conclusion."
>you think for a moment
"you do it." you say slyly
>"What?" she exclaims
"this is how experiments are done back on my home planet." you resolve
>you smile
"not doing it would make you not a proper scientist, now wouldn't it?"
>you got her in a corner
>"well, I see what you're going for with these materials. I see what I can do!" she chirps out.
>you made her do it more so because you needed to get some coffee, and let someone else do the critical thinking for a while.
>hey, atleast they got coffee and icecream.
>that sounds nice. So you take 50 bits in a bag and head out on the town. Maybe you could find something that needed improving, or something.
>>
>>26813540
>you look around, coffee in one hand, icecream in the other.

>you look down, cobblestone underneath your feet… not a cloud in the sky.
>cheap coffee and icecream.
>it was almost like this place was created with the baseline of a germanic 14th century village, but with the important comforts of earth.

>you wonder how someone could walk on clouds

>"me, obviously"
"oh, pinkie, didn't see ya there"

>she makes you proud; and you've begun teaching her the art of simple alchemical mathematics
>and after a month of showing her why humans commit seppaku, you could use a break
>but hey, at least you get to know what it feels like to be the smartest person in the castle
>you walk into the room, sporting a magnificent brown cardigan, and a beige jacket and black slacks

>twilight is sitting on her chair, eager to get smart
>you sit down and prepare yourself for the day to come
>You scribble a couple of elements you remembered from high school on a piece of paper, with a large arrow pointing to the rest of the equation.
"balance these." you announce coolly.
>she starts scribbling on her board, and shows you.
>"so basically, what your doing is making sure that the matter maintains its consistency throughout the change…"
"and why is that? Twilight?"
>she quickly answers "because matter can not be created or destroyed, only transferred into solid, liquid, gas, Bose Eisenstein conden- condensate, plasma, and some sort of energy!"
>wow, that’s really wordy, and impressive. Like, godamn
"and that is called.." you say, maintaining your superiority complex

"what the hell is a uni" you say
>"well… it’s the average amount of energy a unicorn possesses." she says
>"and, don't get me wrong, anon. all unicorns are different. Theres a much more 'scientific' way of talking about it… but it’s /about/ the amount of unicorns that have to be present to do a spell to do something like that." she continues

Being put back on track, you say "I can make self hardening mud, stuff that needs no magic at /all/"

>"oh, well… I eh, got you covered then…"
"oh, really? There's a quarry near Ponyville? You more advanced then I thought!" you quip

Device research report

>Name: "Manticore"
>Description
The Manticore is a cylindrical object roughly two meters (2) in length, with a half a meter (0.5) diameter, with two copper endings on each side, connecting to any standard high voltage power outlet. Additionally, both ends of the device are colour coded with a blue and red end.
When connected, with the blue marked end, current will be supplied with dependence on surrounding magical energy density. High output is achieved by a set of buffers in the blue end of the device, with wiring in the middle, along with a heavy duty conversion unit in the red end. The conversion device is made from copper coils and a piece of [REDACTED FOR INDUSTRIAL SECRET PROTECTION]. A glass viewport is in the side of the device to allow easy inspection of the device.
When voltage is supplied to the red end, magical energy begins to condense around the device, with dependence on the amps supplied.
The device is easily scalable, but efficiency is dependandant on the size, following a Gauss curve, with amperage and size of the device being the main factors on the energy created, both magical and electrical.
Engineers in the R&D department have said that if a shielding was used to contain the magical energy, along with powerful focusing crystals and optics, and a power cell big enough, a focused beam of magic could've been made, using for either cutting strong materials and alloys, or for military usage. Military contracts are main source of funding, so another toy for the green heads would increase our funds substantially.
>Approval granted..Get working on someone who'll buy this.
>>
>>26830690
EXPERIMENT 1 : STRESS TEST
>"Someone had the ingenious idea of plugging the red end of the Manticore into a high voltage plug. Stress test, as labeled before, both for the resistance of the tested thaumic shielding for future military applications, along with reactions of the Manticore's resistance to high density magical energies. The entirety of the device has been shielded off, with neutralization materials on standby for experiment termination. The experiment, due to it's danger has been conducted in an enclosed lab, shielded and suited for such a test."
>>
>>26830696
EXPERIMENT COURSE
>"Upon connecting the Manticore to the voltage supply, all staff had withdrew to a safe location, to asses the situation. After supplying the Manticore with electrical energy from the high voltage facility network, all thaumic counters began to instantly "click" (nickname given by the staff for the characteristic noise made by the sensor) signalizing a presence of dangerous levels of magical energy and radiation. After ten minutes, the counters have gone completely silent, filling the observing room with an eerie silence. The explanation suspected is that the thaumic computers have been all melted, thus supplying no information. That means the conditions inside the box containment have reached well past ten hundred thousand thaums, similar to the power levels of a dying star. This state has been lost eight seconds later, as the containment unit began to rip apart under the pressure, at which the experiment was terminated and the neutralization chemicals have been administered. Soon, the magical radiation levels went back to normal."
>>
>>26830699
EXPERIMENT OUTCOME
>"With enough power provided, this thing is really powerful. That's why we should put in a safety device, restricting maximum voltage the device will accept, before denying to function. This should prevent any sort of abusing of the device. Using smaller weaker devices and containers could allow for some sort of a thaumic bomb. We still need to make a battery strong and small enough, though. Requesting approval for future tests."
Approval Granted. Make sure we have something to show to the green heads by the end of the month.

And have a Pastebin. ( http://pastebin.com/27E9au9Z )
I'll have something on explanation of unicorn teleportation soon.
>>
>>26830147
My headcanon is that Equestria is Earth far into the future after a serious apocalypse so it fits perfectly.
>ponies reproduce 'sexually', but are basically self-replicating machines that automatically introduce various forms of gene mixing and mutation into the offspring
>magic is technically real, as the entire surface of the world is covered in Utility Fog (Google it)
>however, unicorns can control them via. thought via their horns which act as a sort of radio emitter
>pegasi couldn't fly IRL, so what happens is they move their wings through the foglets which carry them up, and foglets freeze in place when unconsiously "told" to by the Pegasi
>Earth ponies can unconsciously order foglets to aid them in daily tasks (ie. their strength)
>Celestia and Luna, helped clear the old Earth in order to bring about the new, acting as the "creators" of the world
>some pone types were left, and they fractured off into the tribes we see in the Hearth's Warming episode
>with enough time, the knowledge of humanity simply slipped away into nothing more than whispered legends at campfires
Think about it, if all life in Equestria had the same mechanical structure, they wouldn't question their design because it would seem natural, and with millions of years to work, they could clear away any human traces of the past.
Celestia confirmed for hyper-intelligent and ancient AI construct. She has enough experience to see what human feelings bring about, and that's why she chose to build society to the way it is.

So a chrono trigger AI boss scenario?

I have a theory about Writefag is kill's story.
Equestria is actually in the earth in the future. Just the planet of the apes happened. Apes become smarter and the human race slowly died out. But not only the apes are evolved.

>>
>>26833342

Something like that, I think the excuse at the time was that since space is curved it went in one big circle.

If the ponies really replaced humans wouldn't they have access or records of all the technology the humans had. It says in the story that they got crossbows and shit from the cunning apes before they were all killed. If that was earth and humanity died out then, where the fuck is Anon getting his tech from? It is said that the largest cunning ape colony had 400 people. If this was earth that number would be pathetic. This cannot be earth unless some kind of huge genocide came and wiped out all of the other planets, every trace of human knowledge and civilization, and every space colony, while leaving the earth and moon intact.

Could explain it as being that the enviroment was absolutely devastated (dams would break, fuel rod storage tanks would eventually boil-off and likely lead to mass radiation through the atmosphere, etc.) and that Celestia and the other pone things helped rebuild it in a sustainable way.

>they had invited you and twilight in for dinner, but after hearing that the main course is literally something called "red granite casserole" you decide to bounce as fast as possible
>you really don’t feel like eating the stuff that came from the same barn as the mix you just bought.
>it occurs to you that there is no real nutritional value in rocks, and it allows you to wonder about the way the pies stayed alive.
>I dunno, magic probably
>your following twilight now, with pinkie pie being magic-ed along in the air with the rocks
>I dunno.
>in a couple of minutes you were at the train station, waiting on the 7:00 arrival to the farm
>you check your mechanical watch
>6:37
>you probably /just/ missed the train
>well. Time to converse like a sane human, instead of just zoning out like a college student after finals.
"so…"
>say something interesting
"how do the pies survive?"
>good one.
>twilight frowns, before thinking about it
>"we've always eaten rock based meals when we stayed at the farm" she says
>"so, maybe there's value to eating rocks?" she questions
"I wouldn’t want to eat rocks for dinner" you point out
>you look at pinkie pie
"no offence."

"well, if you can think people's thoughts before they think it, can you, like, make It seven?" you say jokingly.

Wow. People took the last update way better than I expected. That's good to see.

I'm flattered that people are coming up with fan theories, but I can tell you right now without considering it a spoiler that this is incorrect. Where would the other planets in the system have gone? Why is it such a young planet Again, I'm glad that people are thinking about this. You just overlooked a few things.

>>26841917
If other people have had a similar experience to mine, it's because these projects wind up being much larger than anticipated. I doubt that everybody has that issue, but it explains at least some of this.

Your timing is amazing.

>You are Anonymous.
>You are currently talking to Lizard Bro.
>You are also doing something completely different.
>That’s not a problem anymore.
>Thanks to your rather radical approach, you are fully capable of focusing on two completely separate tasks at once.
>There is a form of robotics you’ve been neglecting.
>Once it was due to a lack of resources.
>Then due to a lack of infrastructure and tools.
>More recently, due to a lack of control.
>You had no means to take advantage of it being so preoccupied with other tasks.
>But now that restriction has been eased.
>You watch a chute jutting out of the side of a newly built complex anxiously.
>>
>>26845634
>You have progress data on what’s going on inside, but for some reason simply watching the output still feels important.
>Eventually, a single grain falls from the chute.
>It’s barely large enough to see.
>Then another.
>A few minutes later, a heavy flood of these tiny specks are flooding out.
>A steady stream of grey sand falls unceremoniously into a large bin.
>You place your hand in the deluge of machinery, and feel the coarse robots fall around your digits.
>The treatment they are receiving belies the power and precision of these devices.
>Each machine has the appearance of two diamonds connected by the point to a hinge.
>A simple construct of fullerene, capable of bending at the middle.
>The special part is what lies within.
>In each half of each object lies a miniaturised antimatter cell, a wireless communicator, and an electrostatic generator.
>You picture the shape of a perfect cube in your mind.
>The mound of carbon writhes and boils for a moment before snapping into shape, each hinge and static generator being given unique instructions by your computer to match your will.
>The miniaturisation sadly cost a great deal of the energy capacity.
>These ones will only last a few hours to a few minutes depending on how hard they’re being worked.
>And you’ve no good way to recharge them either.
>These marvels of nanoscale engineering are completely disposable.
>So it’s a good thing you can make so many.
>Satisfied with the trial run, you allow the cube to collapse back into a chaotic mound.
>These are only half the equation.
>You can’t use them for long term structures without some way to permanently fuse them.
>A thin rod protrudes from the mass toward your chemical plant.
>Upon arriving, the tip bends downward and submerges itself into a catalytic chemical solution.
>Within that solution, the atoms on the surface become highly reactive, quickly fusing with the adjacent machinery.
>>
>>26845634
speak of the devil
>>
>>26845642
>A moment later and the rod is rigid, never to go limp again.
>You have the rest of the rod retract toward the rapidly growing heap of ‘locusts’, so named for being swarm robots.
>Half way through returning you have them all cease their electrostatic attractions.
>Most of them dissolve into a fine incoherent dust.
>A few centimeters on the end clatter to the ground, a solid rod.
>Exactly what you were after.
>The heap of locusts swarms toward a clearing you’d prepared, and starts circling about.
>Six thick pillars start forming, latched onto deep ground anchors you’d already installed.
>Each pillar, spaced evenly ten kilometers from the central point, rises to the sky, gently curving inward.
>Beams periodically jut forth from the sides of the pillars, latching onto each other to form a rigid structure.
>The thick dark cloud of locusts climbs ever higher, creating the structure you’d programmed a few days before.
>Your jellyfish ascend the pillars, misting them with the catalyst to fuse them together and make a more permanent structure.
>It won’t be finished today.
>You can already see your cloud starting to thin out.
>But soon enough, you shall have it.
>The tallest structure this world has ever seen.
>A carbonaceous hexagonal spire with a hollowing in the center.
>A hollowing where you’ll place a single straight beam, to be supported by the surrounding structure.
>And on that beam, you will have two climber elevators.
>This is an expensive project.
>But it’ll be worth it in the long run.
>Rockets are so inefficient.
>And even space planes take a lot of energy.
>It’s far better in the long term to do this.
>Soon, you will have a space elevator.
>In maybe a couple of weeks.
>Geosynchronous orbit is awfully high up, after all.
>You look forward to having easy access to space.
>There are plenty of good reasons to want to build up there.
>>
>>26845658
>For example, nothing you’ve thought to try thus far provides a decent insulation from that strange power.
>And you can’t properly determine its effects without having a control to compare it to.
>Hopefully you’ll be able to find some place relatively nearby where its effects are minimal.
>And if not, maybe you’ll be able to check on what Lizard Bro told you.
>To see if it really comes from the sun and moon too.
>You have reason to suspect this might be true.
>There was a sweet spot altitude where its effects where minimal, and climbing closer to the heavenly bodies increased the potency.
>But that just proves it’s coming from ‘up’ in general, not where specifically.

>”Legends say that the Titans first made this world ten thousand years ago.”

>This planet may have been seeded.
>It might have been created entirely, then seeded with designed life.
>It would explain so much!
>The planet existing despite there being no signs of the spare material needed to make one.
>The youth of the world coupled with highly developed life.
>The clear signs of genetic tampering in even the most unintelligent of organisms.
>The un-natural material distribution in the crust.
>But this raises more questions.
>Why?
>And more importantly, who?
>If this world was built ten thousand years ago, you know beyond a doubt that humans didn’t do it.
>They hadn’t even started writing yet.
>Even now, building an entire planet would be a massive undertaking.
>Who had the power to MAKE this so long ago?
>Are their descendents still around?
>Are THEY still around?
>What have they learned in the intervening time?
>A chill runs through your spine.
>You’re scared
>Ever since you’ve arrived here, you’ve always had ONE certainty, ONE advantage you’d been able to lean on.
>You’ve ALWAYS been more knowledgeable.
>More wise.
>More advanced.
>Even when you had rock monsters raining down on you from space, you had the edge.
>>
>>26845665
>You had trump cards that you could have used if things had gotten truly dire.
>The only thing preventing your instant and total domination was your own morality.
>But now?
>Sure, there’s no guarantee that you’re in any significant danger.
>This planet might not have been manufactured, there might be another explanation of some sort.
>It’s possible that if this planet WERE manufactured, the beings responsible have regressed significantly rather than collecting ten thousand more years of knowledge.
>Hell, they could even be extinct.
>And if they have grown greater and stronger, they might not have noticed you.
>This is the first hint anyone has come across despite mankind spanning hundreds of lightyears in every direction.
>So maybe they’re content in their own corner of the galaxy, and uninterested in the rest?
>And even failing all that, they might be friendly. Peaceable.
>But you’ve no guarantee of any of that.
>You might be ruining an experiment or entertainment of some sort by being here.
>They might show up to ‘fix’ that.
>You might be at a technological disadvantage in an upcoming fight.
>You need to prepare.

>You are Twilight Sparkle.
>You are on high alert.
>The plan was for you to go out and look for Celestia, but you need to talk with Spike first.
>Or more accurately, you need him to talk to the ape.
>You’re hoping that it’ll have some way of tracking her down.
>Discord said that it’s omnipercipient. While that would be convenient, you still can’t help but hope it’s not true.
>But all that is for later.
>There’s something approaching the camp.
>Fast.
>You can’t make out what it is, but it’s kicking up a huge cloud of dust.
>This could be an attack of some sort.
>Luna’s crippled, Shiney’s gone, Celestia’s gone…
>Most of your soldiers apparently deserted after Spike left..
>It’s just you and a few hundred ponies, all of whom are already horribly demoralized.
>>
>>26845674
“Alright everypony, if things start to look bad I want you to RUN! I’ll slow whatever it is down and-”

>It stopped.
>It got so close while you were speaking, so stunningly fast.
>Not Rainbow Dash fast, but faster than anything on land should ever move.
>Even trains couldn’t possibly keep up.

“Captain Keen Gaze, what do your pegasus eyes see?”

>”Dust, your majesty. Oh, now there’s a big metal box. The sides are folding down… it’s the freak! The freak is coming out of the box!”

>The freak?
>Who could she be talking about?
>Regardless, everypony seems to be calming down.
>Just a bit.
>They’re still holding their weapons close, but they don’t look ready to bolt.
>Something is moving up the passage.
>Is that Spike?

“Captain, we’re going to have a bit of a talk later.”

>He crests the slope faster than you would have expected.
>His short legs shouldn’t be able to carry him like that.
>Plus, he only ever uses two of them!

“Spike! I’m so glad to see you! Are you feeling okay?”

>”Well, I’m feeling pretty stupid. But other than that yes. How did you meeting with the princess go?”

“So! Everything’s working okay? I take it the ape couldn’t give you a more permanent replacement for everything like we hoped?”

>”You’re dodging the question.”

“Yeah… look, I’ll explain later.”

>You lean down and whisper to him.

“In private.”

>You return to a more natural posture and start leading him towards said privacy.

>”No, he couldn’t grow flesh properly yet. I’m not too worried, though. This isn’t nearly as bad as you think. Even if the Captain over there calls me a freak.”

“Oh. I’m sorry you had to hear that. Wait. How did you hear that?”

>”Laser microphone built into my eye. I can see sound now.”

>What.
>You’ll have to ask him a few more questions, because that sounds crazy.
>You’re not about to discount it entirely though.
>>
>>26845683
>Some pretty crazy things have turned out to be true.
>You lead him into the royal quarters.
>It’s quite dark in here, you can barely see at all.

>”What happened to Princess Luna?”

>”Don’t look at me!”

>That was fast.
>You haven’t even adjusted to the dark enough to see her yet, and he noticed something wrong with her already?

“Yes. Well. She’s suffered a serious injury. I’m leaving you to care for her, as she’s reluctant to let others look at her for obvious reasons. Luna, he’s seen you, can I brighten the room a bit?”

>You don’t wait for an answer.
>You cast a simple light spell.
>Spike is already sitting at a table, staring at another rectangle.
>This one seems much larger than the last.

“Oh great! I need to get ahold of the ape. Can I take this for a moment?”

>You walk over to the table.
>You look at the rectangle.

>”We have defined a function p(t) and we have assigned it the operation "t2". But, just as with a letter variable in algebra, this assignment is arbitrary, and the function name may appear in a context for which any function definition is acceptable. In the same way that letters symbolize numbers in algebra, functions symbolize operations...”

>Your eyes go wide.
>Your knees go weak.
>Your jaw drops.

“Is that a textbook?”

>”Please stop drooling, he said not to get it wet. If you need the communicator it’s over there.”

>He gestures.
>You don’t pay attention.
>How could you?
>Before you lies knowledge the likes of which nopony has ever held!

>”That can wait, young Twilight! We must find her!”

>Luna’s right.
>Spike swipes across the surface and it moves to another page.
>You are desperate to read it.
>Out of the corner of your eye, you can see it talking about infinite sequences.
>You move and grab the communications rectangle.

“Can you help us find Celestia?”
>>
>>26845693
>”Celestia, as in the purportedly immortal ruler of this nation? Perhaps. Are there any signs that would help me narrow my search?”

“Luna, are there any ways to facilitate the search for Princess Celestia? Anything we should be looking for?”

>”If she is in the condition I fear, she will be surrounded by a maelstrom of rage, mana, and fire.”

“Lots of magic and heat,” you write, “She’s the white alicorn.”

>”The white alicorn is Celestia? Seriously? Coming out to battle in the flesh, taking needless risks to her own well being… This is incredibly stupid. The princess shouldn’t risk her life like that, the entire nation would erupt in turmoil if she died! 127 kilometers west and 4 kilometers south of your location I’m detecting a lot of heat radiating from a recently created cave. If you find her, tell her that her second attack with the lava monster was completely idiotic. Establishing visual contact with projectile weapons of unknown capabilities… Seriously. Stupid.”

>You want to talk back.
>You want to defend Celestia.
>But you hold your tongue.
>Or hoof, rather.

“Thank you.”

>You put the rectangle down and stretch your wings.
>You’ve a long flight ahead of you.
>Time to find the princess and prove to Luna that she has things under control.

Only nitpick is that ponies simply went for anon's assistance with no resistance, i mean sure they are desesperate but besides spike anon still in sort of a frienemy condition with them, They arent considering attacking anon but still queasy for the retaliation that may come from their actions and stuff, so openly saying what you re about to do next and asking help for it on top of it all...yea...

Also considering Anon gave the tablet thingy to spike he should ve noticed the 'us' in “Can you help -us- find Celestia?”, unless he d said Spike could share it somewhere that i m not remembering atm
I dont remember he saying he couldnt share, but dont think he d said he could either...anyway since its on the grey area i d think that anyone would be surprised if the alien ya gave the tablet shared it to someone else to write into at any point, on top of that the tablet was purely for writing purposes so i dont think he d notice at first that its another being writing, sure, but like, wouldnt he notice the writing pattern - claw/hoof writing difference and that sort of touch screen stuff giving away that it isnt spike writing
Anyway anon wanted to show that he means no harm before so besides being surprised and maybe a questioning line i ve no idea what could be different here...plus the previous point about Twaith asking help to a frienemy and all that which could simply prevent it from happening at all

All in all like i said on the start these are nitpicks, which needed a fairly big explanation just to explain the point of view on such small things...pretty much like when overanalysing a kid's show amiright?

Keep up the dank green f@m, have a ponk
WiK+Pencils collab when?
>>
>>26846491
Hmm. You have some good points there. The idea was that he assumed the message was coming from Spike and simply overlooked the 'us' part, which would be relatively easy to do. I didn't consider that the writing would look different, which is a mistake on my part. As for Twilight asking for help, she DID say on the train that she didn't want to ask 'him' a favor. I should have brought this up again as a reminder, especially since I didn't specify whom it was she was referring to. Even then there should have been more reluctance. Excellent point.

Don't apologize for overanalysing. I'm flattered that you care enough to put in this effort, and if people like you didn't bring these flaws to my attention it's unlikely I'd ever notice them.

Pastebin updated. Link: http://pastebin.com/eufFYFaw

Is it just me, or does it feel like this is starting to stagnate? I have a lot planned, and tons of action and tech in the future, but it feels like I'm focusing too much on what could seem like a period of uniform expansion. So should I keep doing this or reduce this bit of Lancaster history to a footnote and move on? In the end I'll do what I think the story needs, but a bit of advice would help. This was my first real green when I started it, and I guess I've been growing with it.

I am enjoying everything so far, but the could be plot is starting to drag on.
>>
>>26847194
I pretty much agree with what >>26847307 said. The story is starting to drag on a bit. I still find the idea of focusing on the actual city building interesting, so maybe you can do something where updates could come in one of two flavors to help keep it fresh. One type of update could focus on advancing the plot while the other focuses on how Anon helped build Lancaster. I don't really know I'm just spitballing ideas.

I'm going to go against the apparent consensus and say that I greatly prefer the pony POV in this story.

Normally when it gets to Anon it's just exposition about technical details. That's not fun; it's only satisfying to the more autistic readers who won't take "It isn't important how it works. Damn." for an answer.

But when it's pony POV, everything shifts. Now, Anon is the otherworldly being with unfathomable abilities. Everything he does is a surprise, and we get to see it from a non-human perspective. Anon seems alien even to us human readers. Not to mention all the other interesting things the ponies have going on.

Pony POV is much more interesting.

Of all the stories in this thread, yours is the one I'm the most invested in. It's unfortunate that you're losing interest in this, and I hope that you find the inspiration to continue, at least to a good stopping point.

I like your Idea but I do want to see some of Anon's POV. It dose not have to be much but some would be nice. Perhaps when he is around spike?

>>26850266
>>26845718
Yee, if it's the technical details burning you out, those are literally the least important part of the story. Just focus on character interactions while briefly describing any tech, and if the result is the final confrontation with Sunbutt or the Titans coming across as an asspull, we'll just be happy you finished this behemoth.

>you are now standing outside the castle, its almost 12:00 in the morning
"hey, twilight?" you announce through the open doors. "can you come here?" you tack on.
>"just a moment, anon!" she immediately responds "gotta get the book; for science!" she shouts like a superhero of science
>is that a thing
>marvel, get on that.
You think for a moment, remembering what was happening
"can you bring the buckets?" you shout out
>"Yeah, way ahead of you, anon!"
>well, that’s good
"well can you hurry up? I wanna go get my sh-tuff fixed over at rarity's after this!" you annoyingly say
>pinkie is siting next to you, eagerly awaiting on twilight
>"i guess its fine for her to act this way." pinkie says. Once again commenting on your thoughts as if it were an image board. "imagine an extra-dimensional being coming into your world and telling you that with five ingredients he can make a computer that works as well as your gamestation and runs without electricity"
>pinkies right, you'd act the same as twilight.
"yeah," you trail out. "I'd act the same"
>twilight soon comes out of her castle with the buckets and spike levitated above her
>*pinkie chimes in; "she places her slave and your materials on the floor where you and pinkie is staring"
"stop" you quickly say, while making stern eye contact with her.
>she stops

"okay!" you say, "lets continue with the invention!"
>God-Damn your brown cardigan is fucking fancy today
>you wrap your arms behind your back, before turning towards the other two
"now; I will take these buckets, and mix them together" you pause. "pinkie open up, you’re the mixer
>you were surprised when pinkie opened her mouth.
"no, pinkie, I was joking" you quickly, but coolly say
>you take off of your fucking masterpiece of a cardigan and undershirt and place it on the steps to the castle
>you grab a shovel and dig a 6 inch depression in the ground, followed by a heft /scoop/ up and out
>in a while you've got a nice 24 X 24 X 6 impression in the dirt
>the ponies behind you just stare in awe at you working with your hands
>filthy Casuals
>you pour all of the contents into a large horse-trough and add water via a hose
>you can't use any magic, otherwise that make skepticism
>you learned that from mythbusters
>yeah, fucking mythbusters
>in a moment, you have some viable concrete mix
"and for my final trick!" you announce, "I will make a substance that hardens tough as a rock /without/ a single unicorn being needed!"
>that got some cheers
>seems like this is kinda a big deal
>pinkie pie is off to the side, taking bets on if it will work
"and.." you trail out before lugging the 40 pounds of concrete into the hole you made
>you think for a moment
"we wait. This should be hard in a 'bout the time it takes for paint to dry. See you then!"
>a couple of mutters, and the crowd disipates
>FIVE HOURS LATER >now to check on the concrete
"okay, moment of truth"
>you take a step on the slab

I'm thinking of allowing access to the human world next chapter, breaker breaker how 'bout it?
>>
>>26854366
I just want to see, more if we got a reason to go back I want to know why and how it is related to the story.
>>
>>26854366
"its sturdy" you say. "well, I really thought I'd fail horribly, but hey, home made concrete everybody!" you say with a shrug
>she looks at you, stunned, before trying to magic the hell out of the concrete
>it looks like she's struggling /real/ hard with the concrete
>great, now we have a problem. Well, science anybody?
"okay, so, we have a problem. You can't levitate 40 pounds of concrete."
>you think about the circumstances for a moment
"made up of the same materials that you carried a moment ago" you continue
>"so" twilight says
"it looks like we got some science to do!"
>"alright!" twilight stampers out

>Three weeks have passed, and the Apples have been so nice with you so far.
>You’ve been working hard, and while exercise have been taking its toll on your poor body, you know such effort will benefit you in every way possible.
>Right now, Big Macintosh is teaching you some useful skills that might come in handy later.
>Although Blacksmithing may seem a bit archaic for a guy like you, you want to learn all you can.
>Even if Mac calls himself a farmer you consider him to be a ‘jack of all trades.’
>No wonder the farm does so well when only Big Mac and his two sisters work on it.
>Plumbing, blacksmithing, carpentry…the dude’s an open book.
>”There we go…well done Anon, now that’s a mighty fine horseshoe.”
>You let out a chuckle.
“Hey thanks Big Mac,” you say as you place the red-hot horseshoe in cold water, “I think I’m getting the hang of this.”
>”Eeyup, yer’ a fast learner. No wonder mah sis was okay with taking you in our farm.”
“I do whatever it takes to help Mac, and once again…thanks for the opportunity.”
>”Don’t mention it…now that you’re learnin’ how to use tools you can probably start working on your projects, because Princess Twilight won’t be impressed with that pulley thingy you improvised.”
“Yeah. I guess I can, and yes I know…Twilight’s such an egghead. It’ll take more than a simple pulley to impress the princess. But I know I can come up with something good enough to show to her.”
>”The inventions you mentioned sound hard to build, let alone design. They’ll take you years to develop if you do it by yourself.”
>He’s right.

>”But I’m sure you can pull it off Anon. I’ve never seen someone so determined to prove a pony wrong.”
>You laugh.
“Thanks Mac, but now that you mention it I think I can build stuff that actually helps ponies out regardless of Twilight’s opinion. As you said; even if the pulley is not impressive for a pony like Twilight it fulfilled its purpose to help you and your sister out.”
>”And I’m still glad for that save Anon. Thanks a lot.”
>You both keep working on brushing up your newfound skills.

>”I know you’re trying to help him, but I think you’re doing more harm than help.”
>Twilight closes the book and looks at Applejack.
>“Then you’d be wrong Applejack…I know his type, thanks to this book I read last week I know that my ‘coldness’ is making Anon a better man.”
>”What do you mean?”
>“Remember two weeks ago when I went to visit you?”
>”Yeah…he ran towards you to proudly tell you how he helped us build our barn, and you made fun of him telling that an improvised wheelbarrow pulley was the best thing he could come up with. That hurt him a lot Twilight!”
>Twilight lets out a nervous chuckle.
>”Well, when you put it that way…it does sound a bit cruel on my end. But I know he’s doing a great job at the farm since then.”
>Applejack takes a minute to ponder a thought.
>”Yeah…he has quite put a lot of backbone to all the tasks I give him.”
>”See? That’s called reverse psychology Applejack. Discourage him and he’ll try to do his best, acknowledge him and he’ll give a mediocre performance. Of course, not every pony is like this, you just have to make sure what kind of pony, or in this case person you’re dealing with...”
>”How do you know so much about him Twilight?”
>”I find him to be quite...fascinating,” Twilight says in an inspired way before clearing her throat, “in a scientific way of thinking of course! Eheheh…”
>Twilight takes out some parchments from a drawer and shows them to Applejack.

>”Sketches of Anon’s anatomy, works on his physiology and notes on his psychology. He’s quite an interesting guy.”
>Applejack reads the brief notes about Anon.
>”So you’re studying him like you tried to do with Pinkie Pie? That's totally not creepy at all sugarcube...”
>Twilight nods.
>”I’m sure I can learn more from Anon and his technology this way…look!”
>"You didn't really pay attention to what I sa-"
>Twilight takes more notes out of another drawer and shows them to Applejack.
>”While I know nothing of his world’s technology it still amazes me when he described that such inventions did not require magic to work so…I made my own designs based on his descriptions!”
>Twilight grabs a parchment and shows it to Applejack.
>”Look, it’s a ‘computer’…according to Anon this thingy was able to make calculations faster than Rainbow Dash-“
>Applejack interrupts Twilight with a laugh.
>”I think anything can do calculations faster than Rainbow Dash sugarcube…” Applejack mockingly says.
>”Yeah you’re right, but I meant faster as in Rainbow Dash's wing power." Twilight clarifies after letting out a giggle at Rainbow Dash's expense.
>"Well now that's fast..." Applejack says, "what else can that computer thingy do?"
>"Anon said that you could write on it and never run out of ink. And if you made mistakes you could easily erase them...you could also send messages to other people around Anon's world and you could read all the books you wanted!"
>Applejack takes a closer look at the design.
>"Hmmm...wait a second, is that a mouse?"
>Twilight nods.
>"I don't know what Anon meant by that, but I'm sure Fluttershy won't mind lending me one of her little friends to run some experiments don't you think?"
>Applejack rolls her eyes.
>"Why don't you ask Anon more details about his technology instead huh? You know...go to Sweet Applea Acres. have a nice talk with him, forget this whole thing and take him in once again?"
>>
>>26867616

>"I must admit that I've been tempted to do that...but this little experiment I'm conducting is quite revolutionary. I'm letting the newest species on Equestria adapt to a new environment without the precious technology he misses, maybe it'll inspire him to make technology of his own.
>Applejack gasps.
>"You can't treat Anon as some sort of guinea pig Twilight! He's your friend isn't he?"
>"Of course he is Applejack! I've been watching him since the first day he left the castle and-"
>Applejack gasps once again.
>"Since the first day?! How?!"
>Twilight casts a spell that visualizes Anon from his point of view.
>"Wait a sec...that's Sweet Apple Acres! And those are Anon's hands!"
>"I know! Isn't it exciting? I found a quite useful spell from Canterlot's secret archives which lets me observe the same thing a subject is watching...Anon is my responsibility and I'm making sure nothing wrong happens to him."
>Applejack looks at the screen.
>"So, this is Anon's point of view right?"
>Twilight nods.
>"As you can see, he's having brunch with your family. By the way Applejack you should be more careful...he tends to 'observe' your flanks in a not-so-innocent way."
>Applejack blushes.
>"I think I've heard enough Twi...your little experiment must stop!"
>Twilight scoffs.
>"It's for his own good, this experiment will either humble him up or make him stronger, believe me...I'm starting to think that at some point I'll have to apologize. But in the meantime I'll take my time to get him to know him better and make a full study on his psychology."
>Applejack ponders the possible outcome of Twilight's experiment.
>"And what if I'm right?"
>Twilight giggles.
>"Don't worry Applejack. Anon can be plenty of things...but a quitter isn't one of them."

Given that Twi's pulling this shit as a scientist and not a ruler it's more of an issue of a complete disregard of ethics in the study.

Pretty sure reality TV pulls shit like this all the time too. Only difference is they need to get the victim to sign a release before they're legally allowed to air anything.

>”See? It’s a win-win situation! You win, Anon wins, and I win…if you have concerns about Anon’s privacy let me remind you that I am very ethical and just check on him for a few seconds. I gotta make sure he doesn’t get into trouble.”
>”I understand sugarcube and I guess can trust your word…BUT if I find out that you lied to me then I’ll tell Anon!”
>Twilight lets out an awkward chuckle.
>”Come on now Applejack…you wouldn’t want to mess with Anon’s progress do you?”
>”…Nope, but please sugarcube. Don’t push poor Anon to the limit. The next time he does something for me encourage him, or he’ll be sad again.”

>”Don’t worry Applejack, but remember. Anon must not know what I’ve been doing. He might get a little too sensitive.”
>Applejack lifts an eyebrow.
>”What would you feel if Princess Celestia summoned some weird spell to know what you’ve been up to huh?”
>Twilight giggles.
>”She did! And I was grateful that she never left my side. When things turned grim she was always there and I didn’t even know it! Isn’t she wonderful?”
>Applejack giggles.
>”Oh, I get it now Twi. Alright then…do what you think is the best.”
>”I will Applejack, thanks for your concern. I’ll drop by Sweet Apple Acres one of these days to tell Anon how I feel okay?”

basically this. Twilight worships the ground celestia walks on, of course she's going to be happy that her ideal mother figure is taking precious time out of her busy schedual to secretly dote on her pupil

Remember, twilight is like 22 ish (in social/political responsability type maturity,) she pays taxes, runs a library, is an acadamian who lives on her own and can take care of not only her own affairs but a child, she's basically a mother to spike even if they're sister and brother (its like an adult sister living with their 7 year old kid brother)

basically twilight is that old and mature and she did not have any friends. shes a grown ass mare that has nofriends of course shes going to be a bit neurotic and crazy.

I ran into a similar problem. My solution was to piss off about half of my readers. Wouldn't recommend it. One other thing I do that seems to work pretty well is to run parallel plots. Have the primary story and B plot or perspective closely related to it. It can be tricky, as you can focus too heavily on one, you can screw up the pacing and have them desync, forcing you to quietly sweep them under the rug until they're ready, and it can make the timeline a bit confusing to the reader. I've screwed up in all these regards and probably more. One good thing though is that when the primary story is getting bogged down with uninteresting yet necessary development, you can lean on the other for a while. I'm not sure if your story can do this, I've admittedly fallen a fair bit behind on it, but it's worth consideration.

>>26849941
The technical details are, regrettably, the best means I've got to describe most of these devices. I'm not with descriptive language so instead of describing what things look like, I describe how they function with the hopes that the readers will put together their own picture based on this. It's a form of laziness in all honesty, I should be working to improve my descriptions rather than relying on this crutch, but there are so many other aspects of my writing that I'm trying to improve on at the moment that I really can't be bothered to address another.

>>26850250
I'd be disgusted in myself if I put this much effort into something and didn't see it through to the end. I know my words are meaningless since so many other writefags have promised to finish just before disappearing forever, but you have my assurances that I want to finish the job.

>You are Twilight Sparkle.
>You don’t like what you’re seeing.
>The land below you appears distorted as massive amounts of heat radiate from the rocks below.
>In the side of the mountain you see a glowing hole, the entrance rimmed with smooth, recently molten rock.
>You can’t get close.
>There’s no way you could withstand that heat.
>Even if you could, flying in isn’t an option.
>The heat is creating far too much turbulence for it to be even remotely safe.
>You land a good distance away, still feeling the distant landmark singing your hide even though it is out of sight.
>You tried talking to Celestia about it once.
>You asked her when you first entered her bedchambers many years ago, only to find the sweltering heat nigh on unbearable.
>You never really understood the explanation, despite your best efforts.

>”The sun and I are one, Twilight. I’m not sure how literal that is. I might be a reflection of it, I might be an extension of it, or perhaps I’m merely blessed by it. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll never know, it doesn’t talk very often. It’s so… different down here. So cold. So dim. I’ve grown used to it over the years, the cold breeze of a summer’s day is easy enough to endure, but it still feels wrong. I know that may sound strange, but I’m not the only one like this. For example, my… never mind.”

>You still don’t really understand.
>Maybe you never will.
>It seems baffling that anypony would prefer sweltering heat like that.
>But what you do know is that she finds it more comfortable.
>More like home.
>You don’t want to rob her of this.
>But you need to talk with her.
>You need to know she’s okay.
>You focus.
>You draw upon your might.
>The world goes dark, you float several meters in the sky without using your wings, light bursts from your eyes.
>You land with a heavy thud, nearly collapsing from the shock of the impact.
>You open your eyes.
>>
>>26885943
>Before you, the charred hellscape glitters faintly as ice crystals catch the sun’s rays.
>You hear an enraged howl in the distance.
>You start walking toward it.
>Your knees wobble as you approach the steaming hole.
>You chalk it up to magical exhaustion.
>That was a pretty potent spell you just used.
>Yeah.
>That’s it.
>You’re not scared.
>This is Princess Celestia.
>She’d never hurt you.
>Never mind the almost palpable rage that fills the air.
>You form a shield in front of yourself as you enter.
>To keep the steam away.
>Not to protect yourself from your mentor.
>Why would you need to do that?
>The cavern glows an unearthly shade of orange, growing ever more intense as you descend into the steadily growing heat.
>Before long you see her.
>Her white coat tinted orange by the strange lighting, her head held low, her regalia tossed aside and destroyed.
>Sitting on the ground.
>Facing away from the entrance.

“Princess! I’m so glad I found you!”

>”DRIUEN!”

>What?
>You’re pretty sure that wasn’t a word.

“It’s me, Twilight.”

>”RUDIEN!”

>Louder this time.
>A similar sound, but still not a word you’re aware of.
>The tone is very worrying.
>It sounds menacing and worried.
>Angry and scared.
>Almost like it was both a threat and a warning.

“Is… are you okay, Princess?”

>She turns her head to face you.
>A wicked predatory grin adorns her face, coupled with the saddest eyes you’ve ever seen.
>Tears flow freely around her muzzle, opened to reveal far more dagger like teeth than should ever be in a pony’s mouth.

>”DIE-RUN!”

>You understood that one.
>You turn tail and begin to run.
>In an instant you can hear heavy, frenzied hoofsteps behind you.
>You look back to see that THING gaining on you rapidly.

>”TBELEPLEOREDT!”

>Its horn glows brilliantly.
>An angry red aura surrounds it, not the yellow you’d come to expect.
>You prepare a shield, unsure if any spell you can manage will protect you.
>>
>>26885954
>Ice fills your heart as the cavern burns ever hotter.
>A dreadful certainty enters your head.
>You can’t escape.
>You can’t fight.
>You’re dead.
>To your shock and confusion, the much more familiar yellow aura appears on her front left leg.
>A moment later, you hear a sickening crack as she tumbles.
>You don’t stop running.
>In seconds you’ve reached the surface.
>You take flight, intent on putting as much distance between the two of you as you can.
>As you soar away you can hear a frenzy of maddened screaming behind you.
>A good deal of time passes before your heart stops racing.
>How long?
>You’ve no clue.
>Your abused lungs greedily gasp at the cool air, aching from the heat followed from the overburdening.
>Your wings start seizing up, rebelling against you for the prolonged hasty flight.
>You look back.
>No sign of Celestia.
>No.
>You refuse to call that thing Celestia.
>You land.
>You simply lay in the dirt for a while.
>In the distance you can see a massive spire piercing the heavens.
>It continues to grow taller and taller.
>You’re sure it’s already far taller than the highest mountain.
>You move your gaze downward, but cannot see the bottom.
>Tall walls of steel block your view.
>They’d been spreading out lately, honeycoming the entirety of the badlands.
>Each time you check there seems to be a half dozen new cells, seemingly having sprung up from nowhere.
>None of this matters.
>You see it all, but don’t think about it.
>You can’t think about it.
>Your thoughts are all over the place.
>Erratic, unfocused.
>With another survey of the land behind you, you eventually conclude that you aren’t being followed.
>You’ll get moving again.
>Right after a short rest.
>Just then, the sky catches fire as a raging inferno fills your eyes...
>>
>>26885962
>You are Anonymous.
>You are fearful.
>The idea of a species more knowledgeable than your own is still a novel one.
>Sure, there have been stories about such things.
>But actually encountering evidence of one is completely new, and completely different.
>It’s time to arm yourself.
>Not with such simple, mundane weapons as you’ve been using so far.
>You’re making something actually dangerous.
>To date there’d been no need for such things.
>By the time making a REAL weapon was an option, you’d already ‘won’.
>You’d like to start with some orbital defences.
>But your elevator is still building.
>So you’ve got to settle for land based weaponry for the time being.
>You intend to start with the staples of war before moving on to the flashier tools.
>And so you’re beginning with some simple annihilation munitions.
>From this point forward, your turrets will no longer fire simple chunks of metal.
>They will instead be launching exactly one gram of antihydrogen in electrostatic containment.
>With a metallic shell, of course.
>You need SOMETHING to propel out of the gauss turrets.
>There is some slight concern however.
>You’re not absolutely certain you calibrated correctly.
>The sudden magnetic force when you fire the projectile might break the magnetic containment, and it a single positron gets out, your projectile would detonate prematurely.
>Probably in a catastrophic manner.
>So you’re going to run a test.
>A single turret has been set up well away from any of your machinery.
>Ten kilometers away since these projectiles have the explosive payload of a small nuke.
>About 45 tonnes of TNT. Give or take.
>You quickly send a message, unsure and unconcerned if it will prevent panic.

“Spike. I am about to dispose of some dangerous materials. They may explode in the process. Do with this information what you will.”

>“A”

>A?
>What kind of reply is that?
>You don’t mind if he send you something interesting or important.
>>
>>26885971
>But this is stupid.

“Stop wasting my time.”

>With that done, it’s back to the testing.
>You have one of your turrets fire a basic round in the sky.
>The turret you relocated quickly calculates the trajectory of the first round and fires one of its own to intercept.
>The internal containment intensifies in strength to compensate for the magnetic field and acceleration.
>The bullet holds as is flies from the barrel and pierces the heavens.
>The two projectiles collide several kilometers up in the sky.
>The structural damage to the explosive one ruins the magnetic containment.
>A massive shock wave scatters as a huge flash of light fills the sky.
>Even as far away as you were, you can feel the strong, hot wind push against you.
>You fire thirty more rounds in rapid succession.
>A series of thirty explosions ring out across the desert, all within the course of a few seconds.
>Looks like it works.
>Finally, you’ve got good antipersonnel rounds.
>Anti materiel will be a bit tougher.
>Sure, you could just persist with these until the antimatter annihilated the armor of any hostile forces.
>But that’d take far too long.
>And you do have another option.
>You’ve already started on another form of matter synthesis.
>You’ve erect two beam lines, ultra high energy lasers that each are fuelled by their own fusion reactor.
>They shine their light through long tubes which hold a near perfect vacuum.
>Then, the lights collide.
>In a reversal of the annihilation you used before, light becomes matter.
>The particles are then attracted by a controlled singularity.
>Unless they’re repelled.
>All things with mass are drawn towards other mass.
>All things with negative mass, though…
>The Higgs antibosons you are occasionally creating in this way are then repelled by a strong magnetic field, causing them to move into it.
>You’re already collecting several anti grams of matter that will react in opposition to any force.
>>
>>26885978
>When it collides with an obstacle, it accelerates rather than slowing.
>Anything that gets in the way will only make the shot hit harder.
>You’d like to see any kind of armor withstand-
>You’re getting a message.
>You are Luna.
>You are watching.
>The young drake is behaving strangely.
>He will occasionally look in arbitrary directions, seemingly unprompted.
>Almost as though he’s seeing things only he can see.
>Or hearing things that only he can hear.
>After quite some time, you’ve convinced yourself completely.
>He’s noticing things that aren’t happening.
>You need to know more.
>You need to open a dialogue.

“Spike, I again offer my apologies-”

>”Don’t worry about it. You didn’t know I was down there, and in all honesty I probably shouldn’t have been. It’s not your fault.”

>He doesn’t look up from his reading to answer you.
>The strange dark orb where his eye should be seemingly staying perfectly still even as his other scans the surface of the rectangle.
>And with that, your attempt to communicate failed.
>Unless…

“You are taking this far more calmly than Twilight. I must admit to finding that odd.”

>”Eh. It kinda makes sense actually. She’s always been pretty protective. Beyond that? She seems to think I’m way worse off than I actually am. This isn’t so bad, has its perks.”

>Perks?
>The two of you must be thinking of different things.
>You can’t imagine having mechanical parts replacing some of his body as being a good thing!

>”What perks do you mean?”

>He raises a claw and taps on his fake eye.
>It sounds much like somepony poking at a window.

“Your fake eye? How could that possibly be considered a perk?”

>He puts down the rectangle.
>He turns to face you.
>He closes his good eye.
>>
>>26885983
>”The third primary feather from the tip on your left wing is damaged. The light reflecting from your coat is slightly lighter than it was this morning, an increase in wavelength of about three nanometers. Your surface temperature is a bit elevated, so you’re probably feeling uncomfortably warm. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale- okay, now you’re trying to throw me off by changing your breathing patterns. Now you’re holding your breath.”

>What sorcery is this?
>He’s halfway across the room!
>How could he possibly know all that?
>How could he be right?

>”Your neck expands slightly when your heart beats. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Whoa, that’s pretty fast. Try to calm down. Look, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. Let’s… I’ll just go back to my reading.”

>He’s mistaken.
>You aren’t scared.
>You are excited.
>You were outright thrilled to learn that the machines could sustain him.
>But to learn that they might be BETTER?
>Even at the best of times, you’ve always been plagued by the grim nature of reality.
>The ponies you are supposed to help, to protect, to guide. So many lost.
>The brightest of minds and the kindest of hearts all turn to dust with time.
>If ponies can live on in steel after their bodies have failed them…
>Some will oppose it.
>They will ask if the end product is still a pony.
>And they’re right to wonder.
>But it’s better than the alternative.
>If anypony can see death, disease, and senescence and still choose to age naturally, they’re clearly blinded by sentiment.
>Far better that they exist as a living non pony than exist as a rotting heap of flesh.
>And if the end product is greater than a pony, all the better.

“Are there any other improvements?”

>”I get it, I’m a freak. Wait, did you say improvements? Not changes, not perversions of nature, improvements?”

“Indeed! What all is possible?”

>”You’re kinda creeping me out.”
>>
>>26885991
>To your great surprise, you find yourself uncomfortably close to the drake.
>Breathing on him.
>Heavily.
>You back off a bit.

>”Well-”

*Bzzt*

>One of the strange rectangles made a strange noise.
>Spike picks it up, glances at it, and sets it down.

>”I gotta go. There’s going to be explosions and I need to keep everypony from freaking out.”

>He hops off his chair and walks out of the room.
>You’re alone.
>Alone with the text.
>Alone with the communicator.
>You pick it up with your magic-

“Bah.”

>You’ll probably have your magic back before you get used to lacking it.
>You pick up the communication rectangle with your hooves.
>Green spots appear on the surface where you touch it.
>On the bottom, there is a small display of text.

>”Unrecognised symbols. Message not sent.”

>That’s interesting.
>The ape doesn’t even get these messages if they don’t contain letters?”
>You drag your hoof along the surface.

“A”

>The moment you lift your hoof, the letter disappears.
>More take its place.

“Don’t waste my time.”

>You’ve angered it!
>This is NOT good.
>You hear a massive explosion.
>You quickly don your cloak and rush outside.
>Dozens of more fireballs erupt in the sky, each eclipsing your sisters brilliant sun.
>Several seconds pass before the sound, reaches you, heralded by a mighty gust of hot wind.
>You need to stop this!
>You rush back in-
>Spike said the sky would be exploding.
>He said that before you touched the communicator.
>This isn’t the wrath you’d thought you’d attracted.
>You breath a sigh of relief.
>This isn’t what a vengeful ape looks like.
>Your blood goes cold.
>That’s not what a vengeful ape looks like.
>It might be worse.
>You need to tread carefully.

“My apologies. I meant no harm. I was unfamiliar with the device and only sought to see how it works!”

>”Unfamiliar? Who is this?”

>This is a tough situation.
>There’s much to be said for lying.
>>
>>26885998
>You could claim to be a random passerby.
>You could just walk away.
>If it’s asking, then it doesn’t know.
>You can safely avoid whatever retribution the horrible beast intends.
>But you need its help.
>If you must gamble your safety for the good of ponykind, so be it.
>You’ve failed them far too many times before.
>You’re not good for anything but spreading pain.
>But maybe, just maybe you can bargain on their behalf.
>You can’t do that without speaking with the ape.
>And you don’t have the authority to speak for ponykind if you aren’t you.
>You’ve decided.

“Luna.”

>”Luna. Purportedly immortal alicorn princess, ruler of state who draws heavily from Lunar magic?”

“That is I.”

>”Great! Stop trying to kill me. It was exciting for a while, then funny. I don’t have time for it anymore. Leave me alone.”

>A delicate situation.
>You need to ensure that your ponies are safe.
>You also can’t afford to anger it.

“Could you provide some form of assurance that you have no ill intent in our lands?”

>Another series of explosions fill the sky.
>Much louder this time.
>Or perhaps closer.
>Even within your shelter you can feel the heat.

>”WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE! EVERYPONY PANIC!”

>”If I wanted to kill you, I’d have fired that straight into your camp. Is that good enough for you?”

>Prince Armor was right.
>Its intentions may be dubious.
>You’re not convinced that a peaceful being would develop such a capability.
>It needed to prepare a device specifically for that purpose.
>To what ends if not violence?
>But even so, you’ve no options.
>None.
>NOTHING you can do will force the ape to behave a certain way.
>If it decides to kill you, you can’t stop it.
>Your only option is to beg for mercy.

“Please, I beg of thee, spare the civilians! If you need justice I submit to your judgement, but please by the stars spare the ponies! They had no part in this, they’ve never-”
>>
>>26886013
>The screen has stopped tracing your hoof movements.
>Has it broken?
>Or the ape just silenced you?
>To your relief, words appear.

>”Calm down, I don’t want your head. It would make a lousy trophy anyway. That’s a joke, I’m unsure if such humour translates properly.”

>You fail to see the humour in such a macabre statement.
>You’re in no position to object.

>”I have bigger problems anyway.”

>You’ve been given a chance to back off.
>You could just leave and be fine.
>But you’ve yet to ingratiate yourself with it.
>The only tool you’ve got is diplomacy.
>And as you thought before…
>Why would it be making weapons if not to fight?

“May I ask what problems?”

>”Classified at this time, though they’re related to the Titans. What can you tell me about them? The texts I’ve found are pretty sparing with details, just saying that they came from before the era of strife.”

>You remember the Titans well.
>In all honesty you have no clue why they’re relevant now.
>They’re all gone.
>Why is the ape interested?

”They created this land many years ago, and filled it with life. They blessed us with magic and then they simply watched. The world fell into the era of strife, with each species struggling to reconcile their differences with their neighbors. They left this place in disgust just as we sunk to the lowest low in our history. A great deal of time has passed since then, and we’ve improved greatly. I believe they’d be proud of what we’ve become were they still here.”

>Please don’t ask about the era of strife.
>You don’t want to talk about the era of strife.

>”Came here, made a planet, filled it with life, left when a world war started. Got it. Where did they go?”

“I do not know.”

>”What did they look like?”
>>
>>26886020
“Picture a massive floating clam. An unbreakable perfectly white shell. Inside is a radiant being, glowing too brightly to look directly at. I believe they were brown and had no limbs, relying on magic to perform all their tasks.”

>”How great was their magical potential?”

“I do not know. Some say infinite.”

>”Thank you. You’ve been helpful. I’ll likely think of further questions, is it okay if I contact you regarding them at a later time?”

>Here it is.
>It’s pleased with you.
>You’ve got a chance.
>It’s too soon to ask a great favour, the ape will doubtlessly recall your past encounters.
>But maybe you can keep the dialogue open?

“But of course. In the meantime, may I ask you some questions?
>You are Spike.
>You are trying to read.
>Something about how some numbers aren’t real, but are still useful in real world applications.
>It’s weird.
>But it also makes a strange kind of sense.
>It might make more sense if you hadn’t been interrupted halfway through the lesson.
>You had to go warn everypony about the blasts, and they still wound up in a panic.
>It took nearly twenty minutes to get private Sunflower to stop hiding under her blankets.
>You can only hope the panic wasn’t so bad further out.
>Now you can safely return to your work.
>However, you’re having trouble focusing.
>Luna’s using the communicator rectangle.
>You want to know what she’s talking about.
>You occasionally sneak a peek and see that she’s just learning about the visitor’s past
>Nothing that you don’t already know.
>But what if some new information is offered?
>You try to stick to your studies.
>To the place that’s guaranteed to offer new information.
>But your attention keeps wandering.
>Somepony’s approaching the building.
>The door opens.

“Hi Twilight.”

>”Twilight Sparkle! Are you well?”

>She isn’t.
>>
>>26886030
>Something bad happened while she was out.
>Her fur and mane are singed.
>She’s incredibly tense.
>Her feathers are ragged.

>”I’m fine, Luna. Here. Let’s talk.”

>They move to the furthest corner away from you.
>You told Twilight you can see sound, so you turn your gaze to the text in front of you.
>You don’t read it, however.
>They whisper.
>You listen.

“What were those blasts? They were unbelievable, I thought the world was ending!”

>”The visitor claims to have been disposing of some dangerous materials.”

>”Dangerous? I suppose I can’t argue that. What kind of material could be that dangerous?”

>”Spike tried to explain it to me, but I didn’t understand at all.”

>You almost speak up.
>You almost tell them that those blasts were matter ceasing to exist, being turned into pure light.
>You hold your tongue.
>Neither of them know how good your ears are.
>That you willingly discarded your fully functional natural ears for a metallic upgrade.
>They know how good your eye is.
>No need for them to know everything.

>”What of my sister?”

>”She told me to run. I didn’t understand at first, the words were jumbled up with… something else.”

>”Don’t spare me the details, Twilight. This is my sister you speak of, I deserve to know.”

>Twilight lets out a sigh.
>This is interesting.
>You’d always thought that ponies just withheld information from you.
>Is this a relatively common practice?

>”She told me to run. And to die. At the same time. She was crying and smiling. She chased after me, and used her magic to stop herself. I have no idea what’s happening in there it’s almost like there’s two ponies inside one body. I’m scared, Princess. I’m scared of Celestia.”

>Luna lets out a laugh, much to your surprise.
>It goes on for a little while as Luna lets off tension.

>”Oh, wonderful news indeed!”

>Luna exclaims her delight, seemingly having forgotten she’s supposed to be whispering.
>>
>>26886044
>Twilight lets out a non-verbal sound that matches your own thoughts of confusion.

>”My sister is exceptionally talented at splitting her consciousness. She can divide her mind at will to suit her needs. Have you ever seen her reading one document, writing another, all the while listening to a petition?”

>You had actually seen that.
>Celestia’s capacity for multitasking is almost legendary.
>It’s what allowed her to run the kingdom for so long on her own.
>Not to downplay the importance of her advisors and assistants, they helped of course.
>But she had ultimate authority.
>Every time any law was to be changed, she had to make the judgement in the end.
>And somehow, she was always well informed.

>”She did it again to control her constructs in the war with the ape. I doubt any other could control hundreds of bodies at once.”

>None other could control hundreds of bodies at once?
>The visitor has tens of thousands at his beck and call.

>”She’s brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Celestia is keeping her tainted mind separate from her pure mind. You were right, Twilight. There are indeed two ponies in that body.”

>”Why do you sound so happy? That seems awful. Wouldn’t she be suffering? Constantly fighting herself, not fully in control of her own body?”

>”You’re never in control of your own body, Twilight. Don’t blink. And yes, she is suffering I’m sure. It’s still far better than what I feared. Now, we must move quickly. We don’t know which one of her has more control and the situation could rapidly deteriorate. If we can deprive her of magic, the madness should slowly fade away. If not… I’d rather not use the elements.”

>”Right. We don’t know what they’d do.”

>”That too.”

>That too?

>”Pardon?”
>>
>>26886056
>”It’s an unpleasant experience. Let’s leave it at that. So, we need a way to force her to stop using magic. Do you have any plans? And stop staring at my forehead, it wouldn’t work. There’s no way she’d sit still long enough to let you. Do you have any other plans?”

>You don’t.
>You have no idea how to go about this.
>However, you are certain of one thing.
>This is your chance.
>This is how you prove yourself.
>This is how you leave the background.
>You’re not sure where just yet, but the answer is surely in your texts.
>You WILL find it.

That's it. Glad I got it in before this thread died. The bumps have been flying today for obvious reasons.

Hard sci fi in here. To my knowledge there really isn't any good reason to expect matter with a negative mass to exist, but it's easy enough to describe how it would behave and it would be an interesting thing to have, so why not?

I was originally going to delay on Twilight's return for a while, but when I read the first part on its own without any explanation of what was happening to Celestia it seemed really generic and dumb, so I sped it up. I'm curious what you'll think of her stopgap answer to her problem.

Some of you wanted nukes. Too bad, we're skipping them. And yes, 1 gram of antimatter would annihilate for the energy yield of about 45 tonnes of tnt. Remember that it's 2 grams of matter total being turned into energy.

>Minutes later at Sweet Apple Acres.
>You spot Applejack walking through the orchards.
“Ahhh…there she is,” you notify her big brother, “hiya Applejack! Where were you?”
>Applejack looks up and notices you sitting on a tree branch.
>”Anon? What are you doing up there?”
“I asked you a question first silly…” you happily say.
>”Ah right, I went to pay Twilight a visit sugarcube to talk about you.”
“Really? What did she tell you about me? She misses me doesn’t she?” You say in a mocking way while smiling at her.
>Applejack giggles.
>”Nope, you gotta answer my question first sugarcube.”
“Oh right. Well; I kind of wanted it to be a surprise but…I managed to harvest all the apples from the trees you were supposed to buck today while you were away Applejack! All by myself!”
>Big Mac just adds his trademark “eeyup.”
>Funny how the guy talks a lot when he’s around you, but he doesn’t talk much around mares.
>”Woowhee! That’s great sugarcube...thanks a lot sugarcube! Now I have the rest of the day off thanks to you!”
>You let out a chuckle.
“Aww it was nothing AJ. Now, could you please tell me what you talked about with Twi?”
>Applejack nods.
>”We were just talking about how you’ve helped us a lot, she was so proud of you…”
“Twi? Proud of me? Please…I find that hard to believe.”
>You climb down the tree and dust yourself off.

“Anyways AJ. You told me this morning that the crank of your well broke down yesterday right?”
>Applejack nods.
>So does Big Mac.
“Well, I’m gonna fix it tomorrow. I’d do it today…but I don’t feel well, my eyes have been kind of hurting lately.”
>”Y-your eyes?”
>You nod.
“That’s what I was talking with Big Mac earlier. I don’t know why but it happens sometimes…when I’m working, when I’m eating, sometimes when I’m taking a shower. It seems to happen randomly, thankfully it doesn’t hurt for long.”
>”H-how much does it last?”
“It tends to vary, perhaps thirty seconds to two full minutes when I’m working. Except for when I shower…my eyes tend to hurt from six to eight minutes.”
>Applejack gasps.
“There’s probably something wrong in your water Applejack, a dead animal perhaps…I’ll check it out tomorrow.”
>She lets out an annoyed grunt.
>Big Mac shrugs.
>>
>>26886272

“In fact, while you were away my eyes hurt for a few seconds, even if it’s not much time the painful sensation really annoys me and I’m getting tired of it.”
>Just as you finished telling Applejack how you felt, the annoying burning sensation comes back to haunt your eyes once again.
>”Uhh…sugarcube?”
“T-there it is again. I hate it!”
>”It’s a bit weird don’t you think sis?” Big Mac says in a concerned tone, “there probably is something in our farm that is bothering our friend. Perhaps fruit bat guano is giving him an allergy?”
>Applejack looks upset and looks directly to your eyes.
>”So…your eyes hurt the most when you’re trying to shower sugarcube?”
“Uh? Yes?”
>All of a sudden, the pain disappears completely.
“Huh…I feel great again! That was weird.”
>”Dagnabbit Twilight! Sugarcube, you must know the truth…”
“Truth? What are you talking about AJ?”

He's had a good update pace over this weekend. We'll have to wait and see what the weekdays do to it. I wouldn't particularly mind it if it's just that he updates like this every weekend..
>>
>>26886115
I really love Spike's gradual acceptance that cybernetics are awesome. He goes from viewing the cybernetics as temporary until he can get flesh replacements to referring his prosthetic eye as his good eye, and now willing replacing functional body parts for superior cybernetic version.

I'm glad you are sticking with the Story Kill. I'm definitely enjoying the story through the Human's eyes and the Ponies eyes... it's quite interesting. The hard sci fi is good but I don't think you need to feel you have to shower us with it. I do hope you finish this story as it's quite unique.
