like 4/10 as I know Larson isn't there. quite frankly; I've always wondered why the other anons on this board were down on hyp levels on the last season. now I understand; and it's a feeling that I don't want to feel... I want to be hyp, anon. I really do. but I can't, I can't drum up the want to watch a season written by an entire other cast of writers that aren't the original writers. and I know, I sound like a downer; but after hearing AKR and MA Larson announce their leaving the MLP crew... I now need one hell of a come up to be hyp.

Fuck it; i'm going thrift shopping, see you in a hour.

Also; i'm still watching the entire season; i'm depressed, not crazy.

I don't like to have high expectations about something, so this way it's easier to not end up disappointed.

I bet it'll go back up to normal pony hype levels if the writers turn out making good episodes somehow, but for now that seems to be the dreadful looming question over this season.

Larson and AKR (you know, the only good writers) leaving destroyed the hype. S5 was great
>>
>>26781581
>>26781300
Why are people still spreding misinformation like this? At least one s1 writer is still writing for s6.

>>
>>26781692
Why did they leave us then?
>>
http://www.equestriadaily.com/2016/03/equestria-daily-interviews-mlp-season-6.html#more

New itnerview with Big Jim. He's main director now (Jayson Theissen's job), and either Josh Haber or Mike Vogel are probably Main Story Editor now (McCarthy's job).

We can probably mark of the celebrity va on the bingo, too.
>>
>>26781702
Beacuse they also knew the direction Hasbro will now take.

We were warned
>>
>>26781704
So is Cindy Morrow still there, or did she leave?

>>26781702
Other projects, they're fucking script writing mercs, otherwise known as freelance writers, and that part of the crew has been since S1
>>
>>26781746
Technically both Cindy Morrow and Dave Polsky could still be writing for S6, but they've been quiet about MLP since last year.
>>
>>26781807
They were never much for advertising that they work on it. See the part about them being mercs with pens.
>>
>>26781536
S5 didn't do anything wrong. This premier is what's killing my hype
>>
>>26781536
I'm just worried about the writer situation. It'll be hard for me to get too excited till we know they won't beef it.
Concepts seem neat enough given the kind of stuff we got in previous seasons that turned out good.
>>
>>26781704
Why do people get such a hard on for big jim, he comes off as a bit of a douche to me
>>
>>26781920
Because like Larson and Haber he's pretty much like us.
>>
>>26781548
i feel like the over saturation of rarity episodes made the one good one look bad

>>26781943

>>2
>>
>>26781958
You aren't too far off. Now granted some gripes are warranted but others he blows out of proportion and in general he doesn't seem to like our side of the fandom
>>
>>26782039
>and in general he doesn't seem to like our side of the fandom
thats what i meant, yeah. Which, its fine, i suppose, but i find think one of the smartest things people like him, or anyone with power in the room should do is to look at our side of the fandom, look at our complaints, and see what they can do to improve those complaints. often i see suggestions on this board that could improve the show experience, not just for us, but also for the kids who watch it.
>>
>>26781199
Not much to be honest, which is strange because S5 became my new favorite season beating S2 at last.

Natasha has hope man. 2/3 episodes she wrote are good/thebest. The real question is how well everyone else will preform. I'll go into this season just like the last 2, with a big eh and watching episodes when I get around to it.

Polsky and Merriweather were the writers who had no impact on the series or main storylines and mostly wrote shit.

S1 main creative brain that come up with story and characters were
>Faust
>McCarthy
>AKR
>Larson
>Jayson Thiesson

Now is mostly Hasbro with Vogel and Haber (and McCarthy somewhere in the distance). Even Haber doesn't sound like he know what he's doing. Even if he's the head writer, he still has no clue about any of the characters in the show.

>>
>>26781943
No he's not, i follow his tweets for years now. He's cool with replying to bronies, but he's also 100% hasdrone. If MLP splitted into 2 groups, one led by Faust and other by Hasbro, then people like AKR, Larson and Sibsy would follow Faust. People like McCarthy, Thiesson and Miller belonged to the other camp which was closer to Vogel and Lenard, the Hasbro producers that now granted them bigger roles, while others left to pursue other means to survive. Big Jim belong to the Hasbro camp and he will defent the new writers and his employer with his life.

And Mike Fucking Vogel is there as well. He had the idea for Slice of Life. It's awwwright even if he clearly wrote these episodes and is now calling the shots like an exec secretly?

McCarthy was closer to Faust in the early days, and only took the story editor position due to, you know, Renzetti leaving, and in fact came with Lauren and/or Rob like most of the writers on S1 (of note only Polsky was a noob).

As for the latter part, Deigos and Slavs both deserved to be wiped from the Earth.
>>
>>26783388
How is he a hasdrone? Gibe examples pls.

Also, we should be making more drama to SIBSY ABOUT PIC RELATED.

So could she shed some light on why LAUREN left DHX? Was it really just her life being so overwhelming with difficulties, or was it like this?

>she can already fucking fly
It's shit.
>>
>>26783880
>>26783388
That being said, if Lauren was just being polite for the sake of avoiding getting a bad reference from the company when she left... then why does Sibsy not feel the need?

So maybe Lauren WAS telling the whole story after all?

It's been about 4 years for me now. I can't just drop something I've devoted so much time to.
>>
>>26783893
Sibsy was jerked around by DHX, not Hasbro, although they do quite a bit of licensed work for the smiley face, they're an actual independent company which does quite a bit of Ameicanadian animation.

This shit i just faggots not knowinh the difference between DHX the independent licensed company, which die more than just Hasbro Studios productions and Hasbro studios the license holder and ultimately the distributor that just stamps their logo on the shit for Trademark reasons.
>>
>>26783935
Well then, Hitler gassed the wrong group, as bad as Jews are, Slavs are worse.
>>
>>26784035
Right. But, still, my comment about >if Lauren was just being polite...

that's got to make sense, right, because the same principle would apply even if you're comparing two employees from different companies involved in the animation and would work on other bits of animation in the future?

Why are so many of them out this season?

And more importantly, why are you people not making the furore that you used to and bugging these people for an answer as to WHY in large numbers like you used to so they have to answer?

Optimistic answer would be because they got better offers or are looking for a change of scenery if they feel they can't contribute much more to the series.
Pessimistic answer would be that they see the show taking a bad turn and left while things were good.

Honestly? I think it has to do with the short hiatus. None of the writers were prepared to start the new season so quickly and they had other obligations they had to attend to. McCarthy and Larson have their respective movie scripts to write, Rodgers is over at Disney, and the rest are all freelance and probably took jobs with other cartoons.
>>
>>26784059
Not entirely, though, have we ever got confirmation on why Lauren left, like legit confirmation, not people speculating off of vague statements from Deviantart and/or Twatter?

Something tells me it might very well have been a DHX thing given Lauren's not working with or for them, and Renzetti quitting about the same time and doing the same.

Most likely, though they would have known about the start of S5's premier due to the lead time needed, so probably better offer and wasn't Larson doing a book tour about this time last year?
>>
>>26784209
Based on what? Good point.

>>26784221
Lauren said it was due to 'not being able to tell the stories she wanted to tell', frustration, basically, and all the other difficulties in her life at the time together, not just the frustrations at Hasbro.

Sauce is the bronydoc extras

She said at EQLA last year that one of the reasons was because Hasbro didn't prepare properly, such as no proper writer's room.

It will always be shrouded in mystery because most people are professionals. They understand that sometimes things happen and can be annoyed like anyone else about their employer. The only way you will ever get some kind of answer is if you are friends of theirs or go for a drink at a con with them. Then it gets tossed into the rumor mill anyways because these things are always iffy anyways.
>>
>>26784251

>>26781536
I'm cautiously optimistic, but the influx of shitty Johnny Test and Fairly Oddparent writers and whatnot has me really worried. I fear we're going to get a ton of "lol that happened" style episodes that have no coherent story like Princess Spike and Hooffields and McColts.

i'm feeling much better about this season now.

the "don't knock it till you know" rhetoric did wonders on me; but still... no Larson, don't worry I still feel guys
>>
>>26784274

No one will give you a real answer if they even answer at all. Of it had to do with bad blood, they will keep it under wraps because they are fucking professionals. What is so hard to understand about this? Are you jobless? Maybe still in highschool or just started college? Burning future bridges because of anger is a stupid move, especially in an industry like that where it's almost purely connections. Look at how the reboot started, Faust took her connections and got them to help her make the bible, including things like getting Tara to do some sample voicework.
>>
>>26784269
Why would it be iffy if they told you at the bar? You could always check the facts independently to see if this holds water and oh god this show turned me into a journalist.
>>
>>26784322
Faust and her husband are both pretty infamous for burning bridges and are in a privileged position where they really never have to work on much again if they don't want to. It's only because she wants to respect the people still working that she likes that she says nothing.
>>
>>26784322
Well then why the hell did Sibsy even say they treated her like garbage publicly? That's my entire point - wouldn't THAT burn bridges? If she feels safe to say that, why wouldn't she feel safe to elaborate a little? Why wouldn't the others in similar situations? What is there to be lost by asking? If they say they'd rather not talk about it, ok, we respect that and let it go, no big deal.
>>
>>26784260
Both Lauren and Renzetti quit at the same time, and both, though long time workers with DHX, have gone to other studios (Renzetti with Disney Television Studios for Gravity Falls, Lauren with WB animation for super BFF and also Disney for Wander Over Yonder). Something tells me there was some DHX fuckery as well.

And forgot about those extras, though it really sounds like Hasbro and DHX dropping the ball on the room thing.

>>26784274
The industry average (discounting South Park) is about 10 months from idea to ready to air.
>>
>>26784339
Really? How? I want sauce on this before I believe it. Sorry, but I'm sceptical.
>>
>>26784353
Craig basically blew up when Symbionic Titan got cancelled, ending a creator-studio partnership that was nearing its silver anniversary, don't know about Lauren other than her really having some bad blood with DreamWorks Animation during its 2d era, and being the good guy there.

Though I doubt they're loaded, chances are they're trying to find a studio/company that won't fuck them right now. Craig seems to have found it with the Mouse, no clue on Lauren.
>>
>>26784394
WoY got canned. And this is just based on observation and not fact at all, but I think Faust just cannot work with non-creatives involved in a creative endeavor.

Where did you read about the industry average? Do you do animation at all?

How did S5 kill your hype Anon?
>>
>>26784524
Sauce? And hang on, I thought Lauren actually worked directly for Hasbro rather than them, but collaborated with them (and as such couldn't leave them so to speak as she wasn't part of them).

To be fair, S3 killed all my hype. S4 kind of recovered and S5 made me full hype for S6 until the trailers. Now I'm just cautiously hyped.

If 18 out of 26 episodes bores one ot of his mind it's pretty clear a show is on it's way to the scrapper; I do not care for it anymore, it's clear to me the writers simply aren't very good and without a solid producer they don't even manage to atleast be consistently funny.

Dead meat.

MLP without Lauren Faust is no more than a cute animation without soul, all of you maybe not realize if in fact you all in a denial state, those feeling when the first time you watch MLP (S01EP01 Mare in the Moon), those feeling when S2 finale ended, those feeling when watching convention after a season ended or before a new season started (VA panel, Story Writer panel), those feeling when a new season approach, those feeling when the fandom start creating something related to the current season/episode....

I personally really dont care anymore about this show, for me "they are not my ponies as I know before", even if I care to watch its is because I miss them, not because of the story or the shitstorm or the quality of the animation.

He was never close to Faust (started working after S3) and he damage control everything that Hasbro is doing. He was promoted to the main director and mostly run this show along with Hasbro.

He also treat the show as the Simpsons.

I kind of see what you mean, no reason to waste time with something you don't know will be any good. I wasnt a fan of S5 myself but I'm hoping for the best.

Sibsy's comment really, that's not something a former employee of a place that values its workers would say.

As for Craig's blow up, he was pretty unhappy, said something to the effect when he revealed that it was due to low target ratings that it was cancelled. At the time, that was like being a wrestler in the 80s and breaking kayfabe, because CN had had a reputation of being the ones who cared about overall ratings up to that point. Not a true blow up, just one from a business perspective.

Just about every person actually involved with this show has put up things about how long from the reveal that May the Best Pet Win was written in November of 2010, and even more telling was Putting Your Hoof Down having the story done by Fullerton (some time before late March 2011) and scripted by Williams (some time after.

That and it's pretty much common knowledge for folks looking to get in to that business that South Park routinely "cheats" to get its famous 4 weeks, and that the average is much longer due to a great deal of seperation between the various groups, which said show doesn't have, Matt and Trey do quite a bit of the work themselves (helps that they're writers, producers directors and the VAs for about some 80% of the cast).

that pic isn't in fact shilling Hasbro at all. It's shilling Lauren.

And by the way, can you give me some actual examples of damage control? I saw a vague statement once or twice, but he's actually owned up to mistakes or things that could've been improved, like on Princess Spike, and someone even floated an idea to him about exploring teenage spike and he was like, that sounds like a good idea.

So there.

Also, he said the show is like the simpsons in that one way. He never said it was like the show in general, and only an idiot would do that. He certainly doesn't treat it as a status-quo-reset-every-episode sitcom, if that's what you're complaining about.

I know about south park using their animation style to that advantage, because I love satire and want to animate satire.

But what do you mean, cheat?

What else indicates a lead time of 10 months? Sorry if that sounds autistic, but it's late here.

By the way - are you trying to get into animation?
>>

Was thinking about going into the writing portion a long ass time ago, but found the deadlines to be a bit too short for my liking.

As for the other "cheats" all of the VAs (aside from the guests) are in house, the writers as well, to put it perspective a Matt and Trey written episode with only the boys, a guest, Gerald and Stan's dad who I can never remember the name of, has literally 3 total people working on the show (not counting folks like the sound engineer for recotding) until Storyboarding and then only a handful more after, pretty much in house.

Compare that to a main 6 and Spike episode where the freelance writer might be in a different country, one of your VAs is in a different country (though pre-lay is done by an in house VA) and the animation is outsourced. South Park is pretty atypical when it comes to making a cartoon show.

British as fuck, South Park.

I've wanted to go into writing too. Do you have an email address I could catch you on? Cause I could use some advice... it's too late for me to stay on much longer though, hence the email request.

I don't believe there is S7 planned. It would be already announced or anyone would hint that writers brainstorming meet up already happened.

And why would Sibsy leave after 7 years after working on it? And not even leaving to anywhere particual like Disney, but just leaving?

I think the tv series ends permanently while Hasbro will now only promote pony toys thorught Equestria Girls and ocasional pony featured movies.

"Guardians of Harmony" is most likely the official title of the "2017 Pony Movie". Tv series has nothing else to offer after exploring major cities. And major subplots of CMC and Twilight's destiny has been solved.
