Also, the carpet burning/running away/grampa making me a sandwich story? All true. 100%. There's still a scorch mark in the corner of the living room. And yes, that was an accident. I miss that man. He was actually in the Navy, but I wasn't sure if Celestia would know what a Navy is. Turns out when my mother tried to run away, my great grandfather stopped her the same way (she was running away to Disneyland however).

I love it, it's definetly helped me keep my head up the past few years.

And for those of you who still have both of your parents, your grandparents, brothers and sisters, call them. Tell them you love them. You never know what tomorrow may bring, or who it may take away. Next month it will be five years since my grandfather (the Navyman) died of a stroke. It hurt having him taken away so suddenly. My other grandfather is slowly going through dementia. Playing football from the 1940s-1960s with little head protection will cause that.

No matter what you do, you can always come home. Remember that Anons.

My grandfather was a signalman in the navy during WW2. He would've been a fucking war hero if he let anyone know about what he did when their ship took fire.
He actually pulled a live HE shell out of the hull of the ship and tossed it overboard when they were under attack. No one in my family knew of this until a few of his old war buddies offhandedly mentioned it after he had died.

Was being trained to storm the beaches to look for mines in Japan before the bombs were dropped and an invasion was still the main plan. Didn't find that part out until after he passed away. If they did go through with that, I probably wouldn't be here. Was a plumber, married for 50 years, built his own house (which stood through Hurricane Sandy while all the other mass produced ones in the area were ruined).

He may look like he's only kinda there, but he was always sharp as a knife, up to the end.
