I'd say it was a great season- Probably the best in the series. The only episodes that were remotely close to being bad were Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? and Princess Spike,and even they were OK episodes.

Plus, if you want to go deeper, S5 was also thematically consistent, with pretty much every episode being about how small decisions can have huge knock-on effects. I haven't seen the show stick to an overarching theme in that way since Season 1.

Nothing about the ending was meant to shock anyone. Stop misusing buzzwords, brony. The music in the episode was fucking top-notch. Ingram knocked it out of the park with that battle music. The plot and the threat of the Tantibus was much more fitting to the setting of FiM than just about any other antagonist you may care to name. Luna tried to destroy the world. Disregard the historical revisionism of the season finale and think back to the S1 days, right after the pilot ended. Her reign would have basically killed fucking everything and "ushered in an era of darkness and evil". She had good reason to feel as guilty as she did.

She didn't take the best approach in dealing with that guilt, true, but if she had, there would have been no conflict and no episode. Guilt fucks people up. Trust me on this; I myself have a lot of shit to feel guilty about. I understand how she felt perfectly.
