the show has made it clear they are on a round world since the first episode

You had Celestia's throne room, which clearly depicts equestria as a planet with all its continents, as well as other planets in their star system. Which is especially weird considering Celestia and Luna's gig. We also got the banner in Town Hall depicting the same planets in a slightly different way.

I am among those who think the show could use more grim. Not a lot of it, nothing ridiculous. I wouldn't want to see it turned into Criminal Minds with ponies, but in real life, the target audience faces a lot of grim.

Dead pets are basic. I suppose they're most kids' first experience with grim. Not me, though. Mind was Dead Granddad... then Dead Cousin, then Dead Grandma, then Dead Dad. Lucky me!

By the time I was twelve, I'd had my nose thoroughly rubbed in death.

Yeah, until I read Amy's origin story for the princesses and saw the Discord battle I had a headcanon that it was Discord himself who threw the planets out of whack when he was extra powerful or something. And the princesses's solution was to magically raise the sun and moon forever themselves. And they taught the rest of pony kind to take care of nature because it no longer worked by itself.

I think Hearth's Warming Eve mentioned the unicorns raised the sun and moon though. So it's been like that for a long ass time. I think maybe back then I thought Celestia and Luna didn't want to rule after the fall out and only stepped up after a series of big bads showed up 1000 years ago.

The idea of him tapping into an aspect of Fluttershy that she wanted to let out seems reasonable, it was just such a large jump in a short period of time that the buildup seemed non-existant. That's basically what they tried to do with Starlight Glimmer, but the buildup didn't really work for the payoff there either

That's why I was carping on the previous thread about how Merriwether wasted the first third of the episode on recycled Warner Bros. shtick. She had enough time, but she told the story badly. It was Charlotte Fullerton's story in the first place, but Merriwether did the teleplay, and she botched it.

See why I suggested that dialogue back there? It's exposition, really, but it would have been justified by Pinkie wondering if she could ever forgive Flutters. Those two were insulted as viciously as any character on that show ever has been. Flutters ridiculed their whole reason for existence.

And the nastiest part was, considering that she deals with life and death every day, she was sort of right.

Sure, Pinkie's life is to throw parties. But she gets to help others celebrate accomplishments and makes others happy. She brings joy to the world.

And Rarity makes dresses. But it's always been with soul. Rarity gives the gift of beauty to others and makes others feel better about themselves.

The difference between the two is Pinkie Pie's seem more like a hobby. She could bill them for the supplies or make them buy them, or just front part of the costs of the bill herself, but she just does it to spread fun. Pinkie's real job is doing things at Sugarcube Corner. Which apparently has room for parties since they've done that before.

Meanwhile, yes, Rarity is all about making others fabulous but it's her business and her livelihood. So she needs to make a profit to live off of.

Meanwhile Fluttershy takes care of a shit ton of animals. And part of it is to make herself feel useful.

Depending on how you feel about animals Pinkie Pie's job is morally superior.

I think I'm projecting way too much, but I think Fluttershy just doesn't like ponies in general. She's grown up in various episodes with her insecurities and shyness but she's still a homebody who doesn't do shit unless her friends drag her along. Even if all her animals went to live elsewhere she would still sit at home every night because there's no ponies there and that's the way she likes it.

Her being the element of kindness is about on the same level as Dash being the element of loyalty or Twilight being the element of magic (which is also friendship because subtitles). It's not about her being the best at it or a perfect fit, it's about her showing characteristics of it when pressed.

But Fluttershy's kindness has usually been towards animals in the first place, not ponies.

Scare Master does a perfect job doing PYHD without making anyone an asshole. It made Fluttershy pathetic, her friends thought she was pathetic, Fluttershy shows that with a little hard work she can impress her friend, but decided to spend her Nightmare Night her own way without being force to do it every night.

As for her parent, I say it's more that there aren't that many writers tackling Fluttershy because she quite hard for them to write about.
