It's been pretty sweet to see how much her character has been broken down and unmade by Carcasonne.

At the beginning, she wanted to help everyone as much as she could, even a pretty friendly pony, especially towards Pitch. Hell, she even leaped into Pitch's hooves and cried her eyes out at one point.
Now she's only out for herself. Like you said, Chalk's a cold, heartless, manipulative bitch.

I think you're overstating her change really. Chalk hasn't changed so much as she's realized that the only way to get by in Carcasonne is to be a hardass. You don't keep the people you're protecting in line and they'll get themselves killed. That plus nearly everyone there has an ulterior motive, which sometimes not even they know about. Add in literal mind control and her actions make sense really.

A bit of both methinks. Like it seems odd for her to ever act vulnerable and bawl her eyes out again, for example. Ultimately, she wants to do the right thing and protect ponies and that's never changed. She also was always harsh and brutal against most enemies she's came across (Pretty much every enemy she spared, sans Lovesick, surrendered to us when we had a knife to their neck. Other times she killed several mutants/cults with no remorse or even a chance to know who they were). However, since she did this to a familiar character, it makes her cruel nature seem more apparent (it also was a bit more rough than the previous times she's threatened ponies to get them to talk, but in context it justified it a bit more). Though ultimately, I don't think she has grown crueler yet, but she has had to act cruel to more and more ponies to get what she wants.

Although if things get worse for her, say someone else in her group stabs her in the back or a disaster occurs, she'll likely start on that downward spiral into becoming a bitch. And then probably something much worse than that.

Speaking of characters becoming horrible monsters of the course of the CYOA. I can't wait to do the Lovesick flashback

Yeah but the roadwheels, return rollers match up. The gun mantlet doesn't fit any panzer I can think of, nor does turret shape. If anything it's an M60 dressed up to look liek a panzer.

You could be right. I think the tank in >>25949333 is trying to be the Panzer III, but not quite getting there. The wheels do match the M60, but they also match the Panzer III, and the side hatches, turret bustle, and lack of a raised engine deck definitely match the Panzer III. Also, the barrel isn't long enough to be the Patton's gun, but IS long enough to be the 50mm KwK 39 L/60 (although Sturmwind actually uses the 50mm KwK 38 L/42).

The Main Character is Cold Deck, an Earth Pony stuck to the rural outskirts of Canterlot after he was caught cheating against a Canterlot Noble. By a twist of fate, Cold Deck was contacted by mysterious letter offering him a “Chance of a Lifetime”. A chance to board a Zeppelin to Maneami.

Maneami is a small but quickly developing city, the haven of gambling and high risks. Located on the sand shore, it constantly baths in Celestia’s radiance. The Unicorn Lord rules the city from the highest tower – The Gryphon Eye. Being a big gambler and conman himself, he allows all sorts of games and plays as long as two ponies write a magical contract between each other. Contract magically binds the participants to it and the losing side cannot leave Maneami borders until they fulfill their part of the bargain. Maneami is the city of opportunity and chance. As long as you can parlay, you can win.

Custom MC can be stronger or weaker, but it's obviously a bit more random.

Every QM has to ask themselves how much of a risk they're willing to take.

My problem with pre-designed characters is that if you're doing your job right, you're going to have problems in that you're going to always wonder what could have been. Ficfic made our choice the blatantly correct one (I don't think anyone gave serious thought to playing any other one). But look at M&M: now that we're seeing Cookie and Houdinin, its hard not wonder if it could have been way cooler or more interesting with them instead of our party.

Not like I wouldn't start with switching out Blitz first, though.

The characters tend to be more 'alive' if they have a personality established by the QM. It gives a kind of guide for the players to use.
Blank slate characters tend to be just that: blank slates.
