Alright Twilight, Christmas is a day we celebrate the birth of a god we had until ponies like Twist murdered him.
We celebrate this by stealing a holiday from some other religion and cramming it into another one to confuse the masses, we do it a lot, I will explain Easter to you later, it also involves the same dude, but more awesome.
Anyway, we celebrate the holiday by letting a really fat human dude basically break into our home, eat some food we leave for him, and in exchange he puts gift under a dead tree we cut and put next to a fireplace.
Did I mention the fireplace is usually lit?
Yeah, tree is dry as a bone, and open flame, and this fat fucker is crawling down the chimney.
Oh, and he travels the world in a single night.

There are some links to significant dates in Christianity, and Judaism in general to previous religions. It took a lot from Zoroastrianism, and later on, from Roman Paganism. If you look at how they portrayed Apollo in art, and then how they portrayed Jeebus, nuff said.

You see, the local people took up to call Christmas as Kratchun in the recent years.

Of course, having never heard the term before even from the elders, I had to do some research about this fancy word of theirs and voilá, I found the real meaning.
It's actually the name of the pagan Slavic holiday celebrated on the day of the winter solstice ("celebrating" the winning of chaos over the good for a few days before it is ultimately reborn).

Another funny thing related to these is seeing ow many old rituals survived among the elders despite them being such radical Christians their peers in Poland went as far as to call MLP satanism.
They simply don't realize the fact they are performing rituals and appeasing deities despite it being clear as day if you read through lyrics of the songs and such.

Well let me present a hypothetical scenario. Imagine every Pagan Pantheon of old existed for real, numbering at around 11 or 12 separate Pantheons (this is merging together stuff thats the same just with different names, Zeus/Jupiter style).

The Slavic Regions are like every other Pantheon bidded against one another, fought and manipulated one another.
If you look over their deities and beastiary, you see stuff from almost every other region, even some Egyptian stuff, surprisingly.

Slavlands are spooky.

But, responding to you more directly, the renaming of Christmas is just the tip of the iceberg. Many Slavic Pagan deities were morphed into Christian Saints, for instance.
In some parts of Russia, they are quite literally invoking Pagan deities even if they claim to despise the old ways.

The heart will always long for home, even if the magic jew has consumed everyones ideologies.

Its amusing to see how well Odin fit in regardless though, by the later eras (when the Poetic Edda was nearing the age it was finally going to be written down). The Norse family tree works like clockwork I find.

Makes me think of the Greek God family tree too. Christians assume Zeus was a creator God, but then they see him so far down the line and they're like HUHWHAT.

Its actually kind of spooky how accurate the Greek Primordial God origin story details the beginning of the universe similar to how we know it in science today. Discounting personification, its actually a logical way of describing it. Darkness to light, light to the sky and earth etc.

Without being edgy, in terms of complication the Greek God storylines leave the Abrahamic belief systems for absolute dead, and thats considering how many stories were lost with time. Its scary how indepth it was for its time, and if anything, how it was more of a scientifically accurate telling of events (discounting logical loopholes of an omnipotent supposedly benevolent God making mistakes and being an arsehole versus Zeus who was always a bit of a jokey ol' cunt who partially thought of humanity as a sideshow for entertainment)
