that was a feels story, so it's no more typical than seeing something like that green where Twilight was Anon's pet and Anon died in an accident while she grew old and eventually had to be put down by Anon's son in her age.

think of plone as being a mixed bag in terms of content, sometimes you get a cute story where a Drone discovers love, other times you get stories of a POW plone trying to escape a prison camp, and other times still you get a completely lighthearted and nonsensical story of a bunch of war machines acting like children.

there's actually a neat trick at play there, by not being allowed to use the eyes anyone drawing a drone plone has to use other methods to express the same degree of expression, meaning that the drone is actually a bit more emotive than other plones in most depictions and therefore comes off as a bit more appealing generally speaking of course overall due to this fact.

I can make it cuter, they bond immensely with the Specialist class solider they're assigned to, following their word as law so long as it reflects XCOM's interests, the side effect is they are INCREDIBLY clingy and get a bit jealous if other Gremlins or ponies try to interact with them in any way but are very devoted and loyal, constantly sticking close to their handler unless ordered to support another squad member.
