I thought the S5 finale was good up until the ending, where they just suddenly forgive Starlight for absolutely no reason. That just didn't sit well with me. Sunset actually worked for her redemption and we got to see that played out.

You know what, I'll give you Shim-Sham's motivation and plan were pretty simplistic but her redemption story was much better handled.
But on the flip-side Glim-Glam was a very interesting and intimidating villains, but her redemption story felt kinda forced and tacked on.

Starlight Glimmer is the way better villain and has the better redemption *moment* but Sunset has the better overall redemption. Starlight is way more cunning, powerful and threatening than Sunset who was just a shitty high school bully in the first EQG. Yet, Starlight isn't shown to be 100% evil so her redemption didn't come out of left field as much as Sunset Shimmer's who didn't show any sign of goodness till she makes an instant 180 after her defeat.

However, Sunset has had to deal with the repercussions of her actions and show her growth, while Starlight simply hasn't had that opportunity yet. That doesn't mean she won't get that chance though, so her post-redemption scenes could also knock it out of the park.

I love Shimmy, but Glimmy's character is better executed so far.
