Firstly, hiding your interests from everyone isn't necessarily a good thing. Secondly, not all people who call themselves bronies share the traits you claim, so the title doesn't inherently carry those traits. You're just acting like it does because you've seen some bad ones. One can easily prove those associations wrong by keeping the name without exhibiting the same problems.

I'm a brony, but there are very few people who know that and don't watch the show themselves. As for those non-fans who do know, it hasn't been a problem because I haven't pushed the show at them. There is a line between admitting you enjoy something and having everything you do revolve around it, and it's possible to stay within that safe area.
