Starlight has no fanbase, she's plain ugly compared to Sunset and has nowhere near as cool character. She feels so forced it makes me not to like her even more.

Nobody's going to care about Starlight after a month or two, Sunset on the other hand almost has the most greentexts/cyoas on /mlp/ since she debuted and she's still in solid Overall Top 3.

desu, although Starlight's redemption could have done with just a bit more time to develop, it was still far better than the 180 Sunset did in EQG 1. Also, we got to see more of Starlight's magic abilities ,whereas Sunset's power was only hinted at with her teleport.
Whether the Glimmer or the Shimmer is better will depend on Glimmer's presentation in S6.

I care, because he was the one who wrote the best rendition of Sunset especially if we take the FG deleted scenes into consideration. I'm not upset by it though. Even with the deleted scenes, she didn't want to go back in the end anyway and I'd be perfectly fine just getting more of her in the human world.

What is it about you keks and those deleted scenes? If anything it makes her look like a quitter and contradict her character growth from RR. The whole reason of her homesickness was literally her wanting to run away because understanding magic was too hard. I'm glad they didn't make the cut

I like Sunset because of how troubled she is. She was a villain in the past and now she's just trying to make things right. But she does so in a way that's stumbling and unsure of herself. In a way, she's like Fluttershy, except she has a reason for being so mousy (not to say that Fluttershy's natural mousy-ness is entirely a bad thing). This is all coupled with the fact that she is designed to be very attractive (of course, they all are), so that incongruity adds on another layer of cuteness.
Oh, but keep in mind that while I admit she's attractive, I don't really find her or any of the EQGs fapworthy. Frankly, I'd have an easier time fapping to their pony forms.

So really, moreso than sexy, I like Baconhair because she's cute. I just want her to be happy.

Oh, but I am also a bit of an M, so that bullying, S part of her personality is rather appealing, even though I know it likely won't come out again.

first of all, her looks is what got me liking her
a fiery redhead that takes no guff from anyone
she was a bit too bully for me, so it would have been just a crush and lusting after her
but when the scene of Twilights new friends thanked her for her sacrifice of letting the portal be destroyed Sunset snapped and I knew she was a deeper character than just being a bully villain, RR and FG proved this

even when she was transforming into the she-demon, you could see the look of regret on her face and she started crying because of "what have I done?" before the she-demon asserted her personality over Sunset

In RR, she had to tread lightly with the students whom she had been bullying for years
every action of hers in their minds was underlined with lies and backstabbing
so she opted to do nothing, even among her "friends" she felt like an outcast
they never asked her if she wanted in the band
they kept pointing out her raging she-demon moment
even when she did do something to try to help them, even THEY shamed her for it
to her, they were nothing more than 5 babysitters, told by Twilight to keep an eye on her
it wasn't until the end did she realize that she NEEDED to act from the heart, to prove that she has changed not just to those around her, but to herself as well

in FG she became more outspoken and fellow students came to love and trust her, but she knows she doesn't belong in that world, and the frustration of not knowing how magic worked began to weigh on her
she opted for a quick fix by having pony Twilight figure it out, or return to the pony world
instead she pushed through it and found a few answers
she is still prone to snapping as seen from her culminated frustration and the almost deaths of her friends by all but screaming at Twilight (she was also yelling at herself in that moment, but that's another story)

she is the classic redemption story that makes a character more relate-able and more human to the reader/viewer

Totally on the same page as this. I feel she is more relatable and has more personality than most, if not all characters, which is only my personal opinion I know. I'm not saying the others don't have character, but I feel like what Sunset conveyed more depth and was more relatable in a short movie trilogy that I can't find in the other characters despite having 5 seasons of major and minor character building. Granted, the movies focus on her. I'll admit when I saw her in the first movie I absolutely hated her, in the beginning and I never thought I could enjoy her as a character then somethings happened both in the series and what I could only describe as an unseen unexplainable "magic", no pun intended, that had no obvious source. Hell, before Sunset I was a huge Pinkie fan, then was drawn to Rarity for short period of time, finally Sunset stole my attention and it outshone the accumulative love I had for my first waifu, Pinkie, and my almost strictly sexual interest in Rarity.

Anyone else feel cheated at the final battle at the end of FG? I feel like all the build up speech Sunset made and how epic it was she was easily overpowered by Scilight and if not for Spike, Sunset would have almost definitely been defeated.

I actually feel it was one of the strongest resolutions in the entire series, because of all the build-up leading to that point.
I especially liked that it accomplished something similar to season 5's finale where the protagonist managed to talk their way into defeating the antagonist, only FG did it first and did it better.

Not sure if it was discussed before, but where in S5 do you think FG happened. Holes ripping opened in the sky revealing another dimension just isn't something you brush off. Was Sunset writing in the journal not being received/read because of some kind of repercussion from the constant change in MLP timeline, even though the S5 finale takes place over a day or even just a few hours excluding the whole back and forth time travel and Twilight appearing seems to happen at very minimum a day after FG, or did Twilight just not get to look at the book, because she had her own stuff going on, including the season finale, and just didn't get around to it. Also, bear with me I was inebriated when I watched FG so there might be details I missed

Starlight's redemption was done better, but Sunset's placed the bar for likable ex-villain protagonists pretty high so it remains to be seen whether Starlight will be able to match up. And of course, I'd prefer that the two of them not be exactly the same.
