Well, seeing as it's a war-based timeline (I never saw the full episode) We can garuntee there's a few factors. Since she lost her wing and wing only, I think we can law out any explosive spells from Unicorns since, well, it'd probably also end up with some metal appendages. So it's either earth ponies with a shard object which caused the amputation of her wing, a collapse of a bulding or high pressure which snapped the bones and muscles having to render it amputated for blood-loss reasons and such, or a burn victim, as her original organic parts could still underlie those metallic folds and bolts, while still operating from a bio-electric interface (Think Spartan Armor, like John 117's suit, the Mjolnir.) Which gives her the same response time by muscle instincts as her other wing would, and having the bio-organic contents of her wing still there provides a small bit of familiarity since there won't be a phantom pain of the whole wing, but partial sections of the wing, meaning she'll have more control.
There's a lot of possiblities.

What if it happened when Rainbow Dash was flying through the Ghostly Gorge and she got her wing stuck underneath a rock but Tank wasn't there to save her. Admittedly it wouldn't tie in with the war story but it would be an interesting case of the butterfly effect theme.

I honestly wouldn't consider tank that much of a help unless, in that episode which, mind you, I missed a great deal of and had to watch the generals for info he was an actual tank. But, well, if I can say so myself, I think it'd happen more, well, reasonably if it was a contained explosion, since it could keep her wing slightly more usable than if it was crushed and completely removed, since there'd be a slightly quicker biomechanical interface, and ergo more natural flying for Dash. But, well, the fandom can pick its paths for the stories, but I'm merely the hypothesizer.

Considering she's fighting crystal ponies, I'd imagine she tried to take out Sombra at full speed, and he reflexively summoned a jagged crystal spike or something to block her. At that speed, she would have been split down the middle if she didn't have such fast reflexes; instead, she only lost a wing.

But it could work like that, yes, I could see that functioning better than something else that I theorized or imagined. Considering she has the possibility to act irrationally and rush, she could've went ahead on a full onslaught planned against the Crystal Empire and ended up wounded as a sign of her past ignorance and a scar to show what rushing gets.

How about Sombra uses black magic to summon the ultimate warrior and it ends up being an untrained anon unfit for combat and just as sombra is about to kill him Dash comes flying in and saves him. They start training and after a while Sombra's army finds their camp and they have to fight them off but are outmatched until anon gets involved and from then on it is RD trying to get anon battle ready with a few battles to see what he has learned.

The missions aren't even starting yet, so needless to say, they could have the job done. But, we've already formulated a plan."

Alright Anons, sorry for being late. My day was long, and when I got back, I was trying to finish a temporary build on a desktop tower, but to no avail has it shown life, which is leading me to believe the motherboard had taken static damage, but it's actually starting up. No display limits me so bad I can barely tell what's going on, which has me cluttering for actual evidence, as I can suspect firmly it's the motherboard, but the Monitor, an old AOC that's 1336x768 is seemingly non-responsive to many PCs I've plugged it into. So I'm left to troubleshoot.

So, without being benign, who's here and ready for me to try and continue after a hearty supper?

I use jpegs with the highest possible quality settings, because every frame in the show is already quantized and saving them as png produces larger files with the same quality.
