program that helps recovering passwords.

Measure how quickly data transfers between nodes.

Stops network traffic temporarily (seen as a system test)

The 72 Story structure is now in danger of collapsing under it's own weight. Governor Spout had this to say. "We can't let big construction endanger our children, just because they think it's too costly to check their equipment. I feel, I know that the public will side with me if they knew, just how dangerous these printer glitches are becoming." The Governor is proposing a bill that if passed would create an agency that would audit construction printers to prevent further mishaps.]

Of course these days, there are treatments for these addictions but, you don't have twenty thousand to spend on chemical therapy, and getting away from your addiction wouldn't stop the pain which has only grown worse as you've gotten older. Your mother never had enough money to get you really fixed, so you could never competitively fly as a colt. But you know it wasn't her fault. Life is hard and sometimes the only way to cope with it was to dull it out. Your mother knew that, and in turn you leaned it yourself.
>As you curse down the streets of the city Brandy speaks up from your PDA that you have placed in the passenger seat. "File, you've been driving in circles for the past fifteen minutes do you need me to navigate you somewhere?

"Yeah, tell me how to get somewhere beautiful, like the center of your little heart of gold."

>Right there, that's the kind of thing that crushes your heart. Strait to business, no real equinity at all. It's like every time you wish that Brandy could be a real mare, she reminds you why she can't.
"I was only joking Brandy."
>She giggles a little bit, "Oh, I get it. you're suck a flatterer File.
"Yeah, I know, a regular Casanova."
>"You do know that there are lewd options in my programming right? would you like me to activate them?"
>You know very well that the kind of programmers who would program a customization A.I. companion would be the same kinds of perverts that would make it so you could shove a vibrator or several animated stallion cocks inside of her. It's just strange hearing this little A.I. who's soul motivation is being helpful ask you if you want to use those options. You felt a little dirty reading the heading in the readme file when you installed her, and still do thinking about it now. Of course if you did ever use those options only two would know about it, you and a pony who isn't even real.
"We're going to the grocery store."
>"Yes Sir, File! Turn left in three blocks!"

Winter seems like our best choice, it's very low key and will not bring a lot of attention to us.

I also vote on hitting on the "lusty" landlord, course of action?

Go to her apartment and make a comment on your earlier meeting like "Hey, I heard your synth leg was sounding a little squeaky, you want to go out and get it patched up?"

I'm sure like an earlier comment come off as intrusive, but at this point in history synth limbs and synth malfunctions are extremely common.
>>
I vote Winter for several reasons. Brown and Rev both seem like very high stakes jobs with significant risk of shit going south and landing us in pony jail. That leaves Winter and GoodGuy. Construction printers have been in the news recently, and are likely under more public scrutiny than before. Lets shy clear of those jobs for a while. That leaves Winter.

Plus, we just got off a medical-related job, we have medical-related issues, and cyberpunk is a medical-related genre. Thematics are important!

Plus, maybe it is something on the treatment of nerve disorders or something relevant to our issues. Unlikely, but live in hope.

As to the landlord, we are in no place to be starting a relationship right now. I'll post Maslow's hierarchy of needs if I have to.
>>
>>25669208
Aside from jobs, I think we should focus on getting of Octagons in the future, even if it means more Fabuloso.

Octagons are cardiotoxic and eventually produce arrhythmias, heart attack, and death. Fabuloso is depresses breathing, and will kill us slower (or not at all if pony Naloxone exists).

Getting off of both is a fantasy until we have legitimate medical treatment or a painless cyborg wing.

For now I'd say we just need to keep working, and try to upgrade ourselves from cocaine/opiate addict to just opiate addict. Our heart can't be in very good shape considering that we have been doing this every day for years.

Hell, we might have already had other health problems due to our drug abuse that we don't even know about. I demand a full medical history! For all we know we have a cyborg heart, a bum knee, a peanut allergy, and a neural implant to correct our dyslexia.

>You contact Wintermute and try to set up a meeting with the client to discuss the terms of your employment, but this client doesn't seem to operate the same way as other clients. Wintermute tells you that you will be paid 5000 bits for completing the job, which is good money plus an extra 2000 if it's done clean. Winter mute also does not tell you where you are taking the information from, simply stating that he will contact you with further instructions. You try to get more information, but you are met with silence.
>Feeling defeated you sit back and just, think for a while. Your thoughts turn to augmentations. For a long time, you wanted to get jacks to interface with cyberspace, from what you've read, hacking with yourself jacked into the system would make your job easier.
>You realize that your landlord has her prosthetic leg, and things might be better if you try to get more on her good side.
>You knock on your landlord's door and she slowly opens it.
>She sees you and says, "Don't tell me, the furnace is busted again."
"Actually Tyra , I just wanted to talk."
>"What? Why?"
"I'm thinking about getting auged for my job and I thought that you might be able to tell me some stuff before I decide to go ahead with it."
>"Um, sure. Come on in I guess."
>You both enter her house.
>"What do you do for work again?"
"I'm a computer security expert."
"So what are you thinking about getting done?"
"I want to get bio-interface jacks installed."
>"You know that there's a lot of difference between prosthetics and cyber space jacks right?"
"Yeah, but the surgery is similar."
>"I guess, what do you want to know?"

What do you do?
>>
>>25670638
Well, I have problems with my wing too, so I might be doing something about that.
What I'd like to know is what was the cost for it, and what do you need to keep it working properly?
Are there any problems with it? Does it hurt or feel weird?
>>
>>25670638
How much does it cost, how long is the recovery, and how legal is this? Can my metal be upgraded if they release a better version in a year?

Also, can you feel pain in your leg, phantom or otherwise? Because we struggle with chronic pain every day and if a metal wing can't feel then it might be worth it.
>>
>>25670638
Complications, mostly.
>>
>>25670638
How exactly does you leg feel?
>>
>>25671142
I think the best possible answer to this would be "it doesn't". That would give us hope for a possible surgical solution to our pain.

Not that we'd be able to afford a working wing any time soon, but it might give us the encouragement we need to work on our drug problems since we need to be 24 hours fasting and drug free for any reputable surgeon.

>>25671035

Okay, let's look at what we've got so far.

First, we have a bunch of general purpose questions that could apply to any cybernetics:

Cost
Recovery
Maintenance
Legality
Upgradability
Possible complications

Second, we have questions about her leg that are more applicable to a metal wing than a bio-interface port (these would probably clue her in to the fact that we are curious about more than just a jack in our neck):

Does it hurt
Does it feel 'weird'
How does it feel in a more general sense
Is there any phantom pain

I say we ask everything every anon has suggested. We need to know more.

>"Would you like some tea?"
"Uh, Yes please."
>You realize that you're curious about her leg because you may be able to escape the pain in your wing with a prosthetic one... but you're not ready to admit that to anyone else. A pegasus with broken wings is... well, barely a pegasus at all. As of now you can fly, but, your wing becomes stiff if you use it for too long, it's embarrassing.
>You take a seat on Tyra's chair before she give you a cup of hot tea and takes a seat on her couch.
"Thank you. Well, I guess for starters, how much do augments like yours cost these days? If you don't mind me asking."
>"No, it's fine. This thing cost about 20,000 bits. pretty much most of what I got when I sued my old boss, but I guess that The leg was really all I wanted out of the him anyway."
"That's a lot."
>She laughs a little nervously, "yeah This is a low end one too."
"Low end? is it something that can be upgraded once they install it?"
>She winces a bit, "Install... I guess I could get it upgraded if I had the money to spend on a better one or wanted to. I mean, they can still separate the nerve endings and attack them to different hardware."
"What was the actual surgery like?"
>"Well, they put me out though the entire process so, it's hard to say, but when I woke up they had me do some physical therapy and systems tests for about three days and then I was free to go. Pretty painless process really."
"How long have you had that leg anyway?"
>Tyra Looks at the ceiling as she thinks about how much time has passed, "Umm, I think it's been five? years since my accident."
"So does anything wear out on it?"
>"Weren't you just interested In getting cyberspace jacks?"

[...]
>>
>>25676344
>You nervously laugh a bit.
"Yeah, I guess I just got a bit curious. I'm sorry."
>"No, it's fine. I just don't usually talk about myself."
>She puts her leg on the coffee table in front of her, "The rubber boots wear out, so I have to replace them every few months and sometime it gets a bit stiff, and I have to lube the moving parts."
"I see, can you feel it?"
>"The leg?"
"Yeah, I mean can you feel it touch things or do you have phantom pains?"
>"Oh, well... Those phantom pains... Sometimes, it feels like there's something still there. It's not often though. As far as actual sensation in it? There are some higher end ones that I've heard feel like a natural organic leg, with contact sensitivity and all but mine only lets me feel pressure on the bottom of the hoof part. I really didn't need one of the higher end ones and from what I've heard, the more advanced ones need more maintenance to maintain which, You need to have a technician take care of. I'd really rather be able to take care of my own body, even if part of it isn't what I was born with."
"I guess that kind of attitude is why you're so quick on getting things fixed in your building."
>She smiles at you, "Thanks, I try to keep this place nice because I refuse to let my building become a slum."
"Honestly I choose to live here because you're one of the few places with a garage. Your quick maintenance when things break is just an added bonus."
>"You know I don't fix everything myself right?"
"Yeah, but you do a lot of the work."
>"That's true I guess. You know I'm a bit surprised that you came just to talk, You've always seemed kind of like a shut in Cold File. I don't think we've ever really talked before."
"Hey, I get out!"
>"Yeah, I've seen you drag things back in too. You've just always seemed a little closed off, I guess."

Try not to ruffle your wings reflexively. She'll know.

I just got up at five in the morning to go to the bathroom and found out that you had updated this twice. What the hell time zone are you in, CDot? Are you European or an early riser from the east coast of America or what?
>>
>>25676745
And also, if our wing is acting up again, I just want to reiterate that our fabulous heroin will kill us slower than our octagonal cocaine.

Okay, back to bed for me.
>>
>>25676745
We should get some more tunes. It's a good way to take our mind off our wing problems.
>>
>>25676347
If we want to replace our wing we'll probably need a high-end model for the sensitivity.
>>
>>25678947
And I imagine a wing cost more than a leg. We're probably talking 50k minimum for something acceptable here.
>>
>>25678947
Why? our wings have sucked all our life, anything that works would be an improvement.
>>
>>25681486
Our wing still works though, it just gets stiff.
I'm pretty sure a low end wing with no feeling in it would be worse.
>>
>>25681486
By that logic we should just have them amputated. That is the cheapest option.
>>
>>25677376
>>25681596
>>25681741
A low end wing would be a trade off. We'd lose our chronic pain, and be able to start getting off the drugs.

But we'd be worse at flying and probably be a social outcast among other pegasi. It would certainly eat on our self esteem and insecurities.

I don't think a low end one is worth that.
>>
>>25681755
Phantom pains
>>
>>25681755
Without knowing the source of the pain there's no guarantee a replacement would stop it.
We'd be better off putting that money into therapy for the wing really.
>>
>>25681801
>>25681816
Tyra said she didn't get them.
That's not to say we won't, but it's obviously not a guarantee we will either.

Overall I agree that a cyber wing is probably not a good investment right now. Maybe later when/if we have more money for a upscale model and therapy.

>You get back to your apartment and toss yourself on the couch. Your muzzle scrunches as you press your wing into the back of the couch, which you fool yourself into believing that it's alleviating some of the pain.

You find yourself hesitating fora moment.before picking up the syringe, you hate needles... You guide the tip of the needle to a vein that is aching for junk and shut your eyes. It's just a little pin-prick to drive away the pain. you shutter as you push it in... It hurts... you draw the plunger back a bit to mix some of your blood in the syringe before you push the plunger all the way in, sending a certain coldness up your foreleg.
>Your breathing stutters as you feel the cold numbness begin to flood you entire body. You pull out the needle and remove the cloth.

"Hey Brandy. C-could you hum me a song? Something soft, I want to just forget for a moment. everything.

>Brandy begins to hum you a peacefull tune as you begin to dance to it. You're almost certain that you lack any grace at the moment but, you're alone with Brandy. "Can I help you?"
>"I've got a package for you sir."

You look through the list of games that are currently installed.

Damnation - A first person shooter about a space marine escaping from Tartarus. It's one of your favorite games and you've beaten it many times.
Grand-Zero - An air-car racing simulator. When they advertised it as a simulator they really meant it. even though it's really meant to be played with a wheel set up you've gotten good enough to play it with the keyboard.
Spears of the patriots- A fantasy action rpg. Sometime you spend hours just exploring in it, very atmospheric.
And of course there is also Cuti-Clash - which is an arena style fighter played with a VR helmet. You never really liked this game but when it came out, there was so much hype that you couldn't avoid getting a copy of it. The only fun you've had with it has been opening a public server with mods activated and watching the dweebs that play it struggle to figure our your new rules.

>You look over the games and struggle to decide what you want to play.
>You also remember that Brandy can place herself in any of these games with you as an NPC partner. Another one of those things that the kind of people that make personal assistant A.I.s are naturally going to program in.

Looks like we're going to play Spears, wich is a game that File has modded quite a bit of course.
Well, when I get back tonight I'd like to jump right in so I'm going to toss this up now so I don't have to wait for a decision later.

File has three saves:
The first one, he tried to make a character that looked as much like him as he could make it, this character is a monk that uses mostly unarmed attacks, and grapples.
The next is a unicorn mage character that has a scar on his face.
And last is a necro-mage diamond dog that uses summoned weapons.

Also I included a picture of brandy's armor If you guys have any suggestions to tweak that armor, I'm all ears.

Probably hop onto a TOR browser and start looking at the site in general. Get an idea for the system's structure, maybe see if we can quietly look at its infrastructure and what kind of defenses we need to be ready for.

A place like this will be no stranger to intrusion, so having a clear picture of the problem will be infinitely beneficial.

From what you read it seems like Bio-Dyne is primarily a drug company with a small focus on development of therapeutic procedures for various injuries.

>You decide that the best way to find a weakness would be to track some of the IPs accessing the the system and break into their personal email to grab a password from a password reset. So you ask Brandy to keep tabs on those IPs and look for one accessing a commercial E-mail provider. She gives you a little salute and starts doing so.
>In the meantime you decide go to the record store to find some tapes. You with you could just grab some digital copies from the web but you need the music in an analog format to provide enough random variance for your encryption.
>You leave Brandy to do her work, and you hop in your car.and drive down to the store. As you walk in you keep you chest puffed out, still feeling the confidence from playing that video-game. As you pose heroically in the doorway the smell of low quality weed thinly masked with the musk of patchouli hit's your nostrils.

"Yeah, I will."
>You remember that you want to look for Off's remix of Pepper Steak But you should probably look for some more stuff to keep you tided over longer.

What SONGS should File look for while he's in the record store.

First, I'd like to thank the Drinky Crow for making this all possible.

Second, let's follow Brandy's advice and see if the scan brings up anything of interest. Maybe this Bio-Dyne research server contains something that's much more important than some medical process notes? If there's any sort of research we can do regarding it, like a search or something, that might be worth a shot as well.

>Since you know that this is going to take some time, you fix yourself some instant noodles and begin installing softare on the new deck.
>You think about escaping this. You really don't have enough scratch to really start over right now, and if it was this easy to find you this time, it probably wouldn't be that hard for them to track you down again, especially if they wanted to.
>You think that they may be using you as some kind of scapegoat but if that was the case, why would they give you a more powerful deck just so you could be caught. The bonus for doing the job clean could be just a ruse but the gift... that just seems unnecessary.
>You finish the scans and find nothing out of place... This can't be right, they must have installed a worm or a keylogger, something. You check some key places again with a computer security audit OS you usually use for cracking systems on site. Nothing.
